Allemansrätten gives you the right to even trespass on private owned land, it even gives you the right to camp on another persons property! BUT it's extremely important that you leave the site you camped at as you found it, meaning you clean up your mess.. But going into peoples actual backyards etc isn't really a thing, but you are allowed to as long as you respect the people who lives there and don't make a mess.
I live somewhat in the middle, but thinking about moving up north tbh!

As long as it isn't in someones garden/close to living spaces it's ok. Picking berries, mushrooms etc in the Woods even if they are owned by people or companies is a right we have. But allemansrätten is two way, you are also obligated to take care of the land you roam. Leaving it in the same way it was when you arrived.

Tree bark in bread is famine food. Although it was also used during the war in Norway. It's not the outer bark, but the softer inside bark, which is dried and pulverized. Then mixed with flour, to "stretch out" the flour untill next harvest.

We don't break it down into national areas. As said in the video, it's an EU construction for managing population data; it has no administrative function and is never used in daily communication. We use different subdivisions depending on the context, as people do everywhere (e.g. Washtenaw County / Ann Arbor / Michigan / The Midwest). Some refer to administrative jurisdiction and some are just geographical conventions.

No, it's not every little rock considering as an island. According to official criteria, an island must be at least 25 square meters to be included in the count. This means that tiny rocky outcrops and very small landmasses are not included unless they meet this minimum size requirement.

Fika is an old version of coffee backwards. We can have it any time of day but usually at 9-10 and 14-15 at work. (Yes, we use military time.)
Lutfisk is lye cured cod, dried and then remoistened. It's a very aquired taste. Reindeer however is delicious! If you have a Trader Joe's around perhaps you can get a hold of some, but it is super expensive. I was born in Solna, neighboring Stockholm but moved to Skåne. Love it here. Much more relaxed. Up north it's even more relaxed but the winters are too long and cold for me. Kiruna (the city they're moving) is literally being moved. The mining company has had to pay several billion SEK to move it. The mine has basically turned the ground into swiss cheese and the risk of the city collapsing into the mine is very real.
Lagom is not maybe, it means just enough.
Some of the info is a bit outdated. Moose numbers are dwindling, and the economy isn't great.
The red color comes from another mine, a copper mine in Falun city. It's a mineral paint and everywhere here. The Dala horse is red because of that paint. Falun is in the landscapes of Dalarna, so a red Dala-horse.

When coffee was illegal in Sweden, as mentioned in this video, there were still people drinking coffee. But to not get caught when they were talking about it they switched place of the syllables of the word coffee in swedish. So "kaffi" [ka-fi] became "fika" [fi-ka]. And the word stayed on and is still very important in our culture. Don't mess with our fika😉!

Hi! Mike from Sweden here. I'm going to try my best to answer your questions.
    Geography and politics:
The 8 national areas is a EU system to keep track of population data and has nothing to do with the administration of Sweden. That is divided between the 21 counties.
Sweden doesn't have states (only 14 countries in the world have states), and is the size of California so if it did have them they would be very small. Being this small, Sweden has the same laws all over the country, and not individual ones for the individual regions like the US states do.
The three traditional lands of Sweden (Norrland, Svealand and Götaland) were their own countries or regions before they united and became the Kingdom of Sweden. And just like the UK, Sweden has its king as head of state, but the government is run by the prime minister. We have general elections every four years where we choose our representatives for the parliament, the counties, and the municipalities.
Sweden, Norway and Denmark all have their own version of krona (which means crown), and even though Sweden and Denmark are both members of the EU, they have chosen not to adopt the Euro. One swedish krona is about .1 US Dollars.
Sweden changed from left to right side traffic because they wanted to align with the rest of Europe that already had right side traffic. Only a handful of island nations in Europe (The UK, Ireland, Cyprus and Malta) drive on the left.
Sweden isn't neutral anymore because this year we joined NATO.
    Language, culture, and sports:
English is a mandatory subject in schools here and therefor most Swedes speak it very well. Some so well that you can't always hear the Swedish accent.
In Sweden we don't pronounce j as djay as you do in English, but as yi. So Johan is pronounced Yohan instead of Djohan.
Jantelagen is not an actual law, but an unwritten one. And not only in Sweden, but in Scandinavia as a whole. It basically means: don't think you are better than anyone else because we are all equal. In Scandinavia we don't like to stand out as much as you do in the US. We are more group oriented than individual oriented here.
Lagom is not like maybe. It is more like ”yes that is a good amount” and we apply that to somany things. Lagom big, lagom small, lagom long, lagom short, lagom round, lagom warm etc.
The dalahäst is red because when they first started making them in the 18th century, red was the closest colour they had to the natural brown colour of actual horses.
Side note: Nightwish are from Finland, not Sweden.
Brännboll is similar to baseball, but isn't an official organized sport like baseball is and therefor doesn't have a league. Floorball is an indoor version of bandy which is similar to ice hockey, but is played in a bigger rink and with a ball instead of a puck, and the goalie doesn't have a stick.
    Food:
Tacos is NOT the national dish of Sweden. We don't have an official one because there is a tie between meatballs with mashed potatoes, and pickled herring with boiled potatoes. We do have Taco Fridays though. Reindeer meat is very popular in Sweden, especially in the northern parts of the country. I haven't personally had it in a taco, but that sounds delicious.
Lutefisk is a traditional Swedish Christmas dish and consists of air dried white fish that has been marinated in lye before being served (in my opinion NOT delicious).
Glögg is a version of mulled wine and not at all like grog, and is usually served at Christmas.
Coffee was banned in Sweden in the 18th century as revenge by the farmers in our parliamnt at the time because brewing your own liquor at home, which was mostly done by the farmers, had been banned by the state because alcoholism got so bad all over Sweden. This is the reason we have Systembolaget.
About .05% of the Swedish population has diabetes. In the US it is about 12%.
    I hope this helps 😊

One thing you (and the presenter) got a little wrong was that "Jantelagen" is a strictly personal thing, so bragging about Sweden is perfectly fine. Otherwise our sports tournaments would become very weird, we have to be able to think our team is the best. :)
Also, they got it very wrong with "allemansrätten", the right to roam. That is also on private property. Nobody can stop you from taking your tent and pitch it in someones private forest, picking berries and mushrooms for breakfast. As long as you treat the land with respect and stay out of cultivated land, you are basically free to do whatever you want.
And sorry to say it.. But IKEA is your place. :) They have a small food section where you can buy some typical swedish things, that's probably the only place to find our stuff.

Your part of the deal is curtesy; don’t leave trash, don’t break stuff and don’t leave marks. And say hi to the people living there, they’ll probably give you fika.
