Yes it would be easy enough to register a truck in Montana, then drive it to California to run it for several years. As long as it is a commercial vehicle, it can be run with two states registration. It is specifically not allowed to even enter California with a commercial truck without permission from another state. They have 1000 miles per year exemptions but you have to apply. If they catch you with an out of compliance heavy diesel truck the fines are huge and out of proportion to the harm.
CARB is an appointed board of people with absolutely no idea of business and real world experience, They make rules without any foresight on implementation, Companies are closing directly due to the CARB, some just because they're fed up and old enough to retire in another state. The Big picture is they want you out of driving a car. Thats what this is all about. You will be stuck with public transportantion and where it goes not where you want to go.
There has to be exemption to emergency vehicles. Emergency vehicles are a very small number of vehicles on the road and contribute a small amount to the pollution problem I believe. Another problem is that it would take longer to charge a tow truck vs a car or pickup truck due to the increased battery capacity needed and this would greatly impair the ability to rescue vehicles. Can you imagine a rolled over simi truck blocking the LA freeway at rush hour and there is no tow trucks available because they are charging.
This whole thing is silly. Ford can supply CARB compliant gas and diesel trucks because they are also selling more than enough of the electric vans, cars and trucks. If Rivian sells some of their Amazon vans to International, they can then sell that van as a electric vehicle, and then produce 9 diesel trucks for California.
Well I'm going to throw in my two cents as a retired tow operator in southern California California's nuts they want to go all-electric but yet their power grid won't support it personally I think it's just a way for them to pad their pockets but as a retired tow truck operator of 20 years I can tell you right now gas and diesel were the only trucks we ever ran and knowing what's involved in towing and recovery and sometimes the distances we have to go to tow a vehicle somewhere I don't see how the towing industry is going to be able to go all electric I can see diesel electric gas electric you know hybrid but full-blown electric I just don't see it I think California is nuts I think that California needs somebody to step in and put an end to this madness that Sacramento is shoving down the throats of all California citizens making the cost of living here that much higher
California made me pull my trucks off the road about 12 years ago b'cuz they didn't meet their new 'guide lines' . Yeah my trucks were older, but I had impeccable service records on them and kept them nice.
It's not just tow trucks, it's going to be all trucks eventually including all the ones that haul your food and other necessities. California is very soon going to wither away if it keeps operating the way it is, for the last few years people have been fleeing in droves and it's going to continue.
umm. Ford is still able to sell gas and diesel truck chassis in California, because they are also selling electric vans, cars and pickup trucks. This company can switch to the F-600 and F-650 chassis and use CARB compliant gas and diesel engines. This problem is also effecting the RV industry too. They just need to sell one Rivian Amazon vans per 9 other RV's they sell in California. So they buy a Amazon van from Rivian, sell it to Amazon, then can sell 9 RV's. Easy.
The government needs to be held to the same standards as everyone else. If they believe that the people can live with the vehicles they want us to have then they should have to live with the same thing. No government exemption.
CARB has no power to ORDER we the people of California to do anything. They issue shalls to person's, we are not persons, we are people, a legal distinction
As a Californian, I keep a light bug-out bag in my trunk. Snacks, water, wet-wipes,, etc. This state is so ridiculous. Everything on down to local issues is beyond lame. I've had to wait up to three hours for roadside assistance. The super-majority that the Einsteins voted for is biting everyone on the backside.
I been dealing with this myself as a business owner in the concrete pumping industry since 2006 it’s an incredible problem. I’m at a loss and my thought process has shifted from fear to apathy and I’m just shrugging my shoulders and laughing interested in seeing how this whole thing will shake down and completely fail.
Why not just quit. If you do not work, there who will build the buildings? Or just buy an electric truck and park it? Point at it and say, "I'm green".
@ I am green at least green up until the regulations they set forth to present. The bar literally gets moved higher as soon as you reach it, soon as you replace the trucks they said to replace in 2020 they push to eventually ban internal combustion engines all together. It’s literally impossible for small business to sustain in this state. Once the electric tech actually becomes available it will only be affordable to large corps. Ca had programs for small businesses like mine when we were forced to phase out our trucks sans DEF/DPF but dealing with the red tape of qualifying was ridiculous. If you did receive funding it was not nearly enough to finance comparable equipment. A lot of busineses quit, myself. I sold 3/4 of my fleet and now I actually only run one boom pump as an O/O I sold a perfectly good machine and had to buy one that was 4x’s the cost of the one I sold. All to make the same amount of money. I raised my rates but not enough I still have to remain competitive in my local markets.
Do really think CARB cares they don’t, the only thing they care about is getting rid of gas and diesel vehicles, the ones they will allow will be limited mileage and costly to own.
What would the State Government do it all trucking companies and independent trucking decided to not operate in California? How would goods be moved then. When are Trains as they are also Diesel going to be outlawed in California?
They just said there are "carv outs" in the law to give exemption to government vehicles. The light duty trucks the military have do NOT have a DPF device or DEF catalyst. Typical government and rules for thee, not for me.
Now I know why it took 6 hours to be a to get tow earlier this month. CARB, seem to want to air so clean that the roads will be almost empty like North Korea.
I hope California makes a decision to leave alone the diesel trucks. What's going to happen when a electric car runs out of electricity or catch's fire?
if CARB stays with the current rules/laws, I foresee a time in California that most will be walking or back to riding horses, oh wait a minute, i forgot about the affect on the air by animals passing gas and waste!!
But you left these in California voted for this. You get what you get when these electric cars and trucks catch fire and you can't put them out. You're gonna have more problems. You can shake a stick at this is stupid.
so Gavin Newsom and CALIFORNIA want tow trucks to be electric…. OK, what’s next ? CHP cruiser/ patrol cars? This poor guy he’s obviously very upset. He’s talking so loud.
There really needs to be a oversight committee for CARB. To many rules and regulation have impacted CA in a negative way. The air quality has made massive improvements in the last few years.
So you are happy with the clean air? But not happy that in 1975 CARB required catalytic converters on cars and improved smog emissions over the past 45 years? The reason the air is cleaner is all steel manufacturing moved out of California, and they also prevented the electric generators from using thick oil to generate electricity, so there is less smog in the air now. Also you can see from Huntington Beach to Big Bear now because of the lower smog levels. If you watch old shows like Dragnet, they open the show with a aerial picture of LA. Look at the smog in 1971! Remember how bad it was? The air is much cleaner now because of the CARB regulations and the SCAQMD. And this towing company needs to know that they can keep buying gas and diesel F-600 and F-650 truck chassis. They can build that 25 ton capacity rotator on a F-750 chassis with a CARB compliant diesel engine. In 2027, they can build a 50 ton rotator on a Tesla electric class 8 truck. 500 mile range and the ability to recharge in 30 minutes from 20% to 70% full. Also consider your car picks in 1978. A underpowered car that got 18 MPG? Now you can pick a fuel injected car with lots of power, and many are over 30 MPG! That is in part due to the CARB restrictions of smog, so they have less unburned hydrocarbons, and they must use every fraction of a gram of fuel that is burned in the engine, so you get better MPG!
I’m hoping that these two people that were interviewed, know in their hearts that the unelected top leadership of CARB is not interested in a family, or small business’s success or sustainability. Hopefully, their kindness toward the regulators and local representatives is just them trying to appease the powerful, to let their businesses survive a little longer until something “sensible” comes along. Government can’t have sensible solutions because environmental activist groups keep suing the EPA to comply with constantly changing demands.
Where I live at don't have this problem no shortage of tow trucks I live in Phenix City,AL next to Columbus,GA and also there's no way I would buy a EV vehicle I would stay with my Ford F-150
I saw a Tesla semi truck getting towed yesterday In Auburn by a diesel semi truck and then a diesel semi truck came and towed the trailer away. I just drive past laughing
I say let the chips fall when cars are broke down everywhere and no one to move them legally and traffic is a fiasco the politicians will have to deal with the kaos they created and fix it.
I think that it is well past the time that the Calififornia air resources board (CARB) be elected by the people of California as well as all other boards that cause significant impact on the economy. This will take a ballot measure to be passed.
What I'm gathering is that when they are unable to provide the services anymore they will be dependent upon the government and their exempt vehicles. ?
Californians are smart people like people from other state but they have a knack on voting people that loves the need to complicate things and at the same time they'll try to convince other state to follow. I'd say stop complicating things and playing stupid games coz everytime you get stupid prices like this and increase taxes. Vote wisely and change is good but use plain common sense always.
Notice hiw the government doesn't have to fallow their own rules? Time for we tge people to have our say in thus! That mean, GET INVOLVED PEOPLE! Make YOUR voice heard. Also, STOP being ignorant and STUPID on issues if the dat! But for most, i guess that's asking to much these days! Hiw unfortunate.
You mentioned hybrids, ones that use a generator powered by alcohol. So why is that not an option? Hybrids have far more range than any other type. Since corn syrup will be phased out there will be more than enough fuel.
If we got tow trucks electric tow trucks, we would only be able to run like one call or two calls, then go back, get a charge and grab a different truck
The owner of this company needs to move his business to Wisconsin, 75% cheaper to do business here than California, plus Wisconsin runs budget surpluses.
What gas and diesel vehicles certain things can be fixed on the highway but electric always has to be towed to a facility for repair except for a flat tire. And all of the parts of proprietary. Auto parts stores will be going out of business. 😤
I thought we were in a FREE COUNTRY? Did Californians vote for this? What happened to FREEDOM OF CHOICE? We don't have charging stations to travel in long distances! California has mass power outages in Summer! If there's high winds they turn the power off! They need to get rid of CARB!!! These big companies using gas and diesel vehicles need to join up and hire high profile lawyers and sue Commiefornia!!
The CARB can't pass law, but they can pass regulations . If they don't have a workable anser to a problem they are part of the problem and need to be held accountable by being an elected body of goverment.
😂 The irony is that Donald Trump just recently made. President, will further the policies that cause these electric vehicle problems to continue. Trump's economic advisor is a person who favors, and has utilized carbon credit trade initiatives. Which are the very measures forcing the electrification of heavy vehicles, including this California tow truck problem. You are highlighting a problem that our new president is about to make much worse, despite being allegedly a Republican
Rest assured Californians. Your state will do just as good a job regulating tow trucks as they’ve done with public education, illegal immigration, and high speed rail.

It is specifically not allowed to even enter California with a commercial truck without permission from another state. They have 1000 miles per year exemptions but you have to apply. If they catch you with an out of compliance heavy diesel truck the fines are huge and out of proportion to the harm.
Just close up shop, leave the highways plugged up. No trucks, no service. When the economic pain gets too much, they will back off. No pain, no gain.
CARB is an appointed board of people with absolutely no idea of business and real world experience, They make rules without any foresight on implementation, Companies are closing directly due to the CARB, some just because they're fed up and old enough to retire in another state. Cat converter theft spiking in Ca. is an unintended consequence of the special Ca.only cat (which totals a 7yo prius due to cost)
@@ericlindauer7150 my thoughts exactly. They make it seem as if they have never worked in any of the trades, dealt with inconveniences relating to financial struggles, nor understand the implications of their utopian ideals when applied in the real world. Those in the lower end of the SES scale are the ones who will suffer, but they couldn’t be less concerned as they worry about their financial contributors, likely those in the energy and EV sectors.
It’s unconstitutional to ban diesel and force electric. So do don’t comply with illegal laws.
@@juliemunoz2762 also unconstitutional to not being able to work on your own car! Manufacturers need to make it easier for people to work on their own cars!
Thanks, carb strikes, yet again. Now ca dmv is on board with them, and you wont even allow you to register your truck if carb says it is not compliant!
They view anybody that drives a vehicle as the enemy period. Dont count on any government agency to help you what so ever and all of what is happening now in cali is by design the gov is counting on this happening.
Well I'm going to throw in my two cents as a retired tow operator in southern California California's nuts they want to go all-electric but yet their power grid won't support it personally I think it's just a way for them to pad their pockets but as a retired tow truck operator of 20 years I can tell you right now gas and diesel were the only trucks we ever ran and knowing what's involved in towing and recovery and sometimes the distances we have to go to tow a vehicle somewhere
I don't see how the towing industry is going to be able to go all electric
I can see diesel electric gas electric you know hybrid but full-blown electric
I just don't see it I think California is nuts
I think that California needs somebody to step in and put an end to this madness
that Sacramento is shoving down the throats of all California citizens making the cost of living here that much higher
The super-majority that the Einsteins voted for is biting everyone on the backside.
why were you waiting for someone to come and change your tire?
@@larryjanson4011 It overheated. Needed a tow to the dealership 90 miles away.
the law of democrat incompetency
Imagine the fire those huge batteries will create? Why would Towing company's go into that much debt with irresponsible trucks?
When are Trains as they are also Diesel going to be outlawed in California?
fun (but sad) watching california disintegrate into itself. but. you voted for them. you got what you voted for.
What about FIre engines ? How long does CARB thinks an Electric Fire Engine last? Especially around a Fire.
I talked to a fire fighter in Los angels they have a hybird and they are not happy with it.
They just said there are "carv outs" in the law to give exemption to government vehicles. The light duty trucks the military have do NOT have a DPF device or DEF catalyst. Typical government and rules for thee, not for me.
We have an official 🤡 as governor!🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
I wish votes counted in California.
"Dirty truck" is a very misleading term.
Dirty politicians
AN ELECTRIC TOW TRUCK IS IMPOSSIBLE PERIOD,WILL NOT WORK EVER

Now I know why it took 6 hours to be a to get tow earlier this month. CARB, seem to want to air so clean that the roads will be almost empty like North Korea.
There is no battery technology that can perform what is required for many areas of industrial use.
I hope California makes a decision to leave alone the diesel trucks. What's going to happen when a electric car runs out of electricity or catch's fire?
CARB is like the mafia
Now you will need your bug out bag for long stays waiting for a tow truck
if CARB stays with the current rules/laws, I foresee a time in California that most will be walking or back to riding horses, oh wait a minute, i forgot about the affect on the air by animals passing gas and waste!!
But you left these in California voted for this. You get what you get when these electric cars and trucks catch fire and you can't put them out. You're gonna have more problems. You can shake a stick at this is stupid.
carb regulations are not voted on by the people of California or the elected representatives.
so Gavin Newsom and CALIFORNIA want tow trucks to be electric…. OK, what’s next ? CHP cruiser/ patrol cars?
This poor guy he’s obviously very upset. He’s talking so loud.
There really needs to be a oversight committee for CARB. To many rules and regulation have impacted CA in a negative way. The air quality has made massive improvements in the last few years.
time to de-fund carb. and shut it down.
We need to reform this via a ballot measure
CARB isn’t elected they are selected
But but but 🤡Gavin Newsome🤡 wants all electric! 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏼♂️...😂
I will never ever visit California again,,, once was enough for a Lifetime
How nice another grift by Newsome and tow truck driver/companies.
Good info

I say let the chips fall when cars are broke down everywhere and no one to move them legally and traffic is a fiasco the politicians will have to deal with the kaos they created and fix it.
Just make people in California walk.
The technology is available, its the manufactures that need to catch up
CA leadership: WAKE UP. How do we get Newsom to watch these videos?
WOW did the State talk this out??? Why didn't they know all this??? No equipment for this and the batteries???
I think that it is well past the time that the Calififornia air resources board (CARB) be elected by the people of California as well as all other boards that cause significant impact on the economy. This will take a ballot measure to be passed.
Just run for Governor Mark & abolish carb.
Lots of tow companies work on small margins they can’t afford to go EV anytime soon.
How can ev lift simi 😂
Gruesome Newsome and woke at its best
Notice hiw the government doesn't have to fallow their own rules? Time for we tge people to have our say in thus! That mean, GET INVOLVED PEOPLE! Make YOUR voice heard. Also, STOP being ignorant and STUPID on issues if the dat! But for most, i guess that's asking to much these days! Hiw unfortunate.
You mentioned hybrids, ones that use a generator powered by alcohol. So why is that not an option? Hybrids have far more range than any other type. Since corn syrup will be phased out there will be more than enough fuel.
Oh, the same companies do impounds and roadside services. The one thing that tends to be separate is reposetions
If we got tow trucks electric tow trucks, we would only be able to run like one call or two calls, then go back, get a charge and grab a different truck
7500 miles on a unit out of state will bypass the carb law here in California? Non compliance?
Defund CARB. Defund Newson. Defund democratic politicians who are killing this state.
Get rid of CARB and all your problems will be solved.
More from the out of touch, Ideological elite class.
Bring on the the $2000 tow bills.
People will have to call out of state tow companies, or Heaven forbid in So-Cal, tow trucks from Mexico due to lack of. In state companies.
The owner of this company needs to move his business to Wisconsin, 75% cheaper to do business here than California, plus Wisconsin runs budget surpluses.
Just call a tow truck from out of state and wait, or call into Mexico and wait for one😂
They have renewable diesel even and that’s still not good enough for the carb to continue even with all those emission equipment in place already
What gas and diesel vehicles certain things can be fixed on the highway but electric always has to be towed to a facility for repair except for a flat tire. And all of the parts of proprietary. Auto parts stores will be going out of business. 😤
Yay Pepe's!
So why is this guy still located in California? You would think he would move to a state that was more cost effective?
This is such a big money operation s in the millions and millions of dollars in a small number of people to manipulate

Its not about clean air its about politics...
California is an absolute joke. Diesel trucks have already been mandated to become much cleaner, bannning them altogether is idiotic as it is unsafe.
