Having additional monitors is a huge must. One of my favorite hacks is to use my IPAD as a secondary display for my Mac Studio! Little expensive but colors look amazing and I have an iPad when I’m on the go!

Great video! I've been editing for 8 years and recommend that everyone build their workstation slowly and intentionally. I've wasted money on peripherals when at the end of the day, my best edits come from a good single monitor, good headphones, and organized assets 🙌🏽

Fantastic video. I've only recently gotten into video editing, and Its good to know what the essentials are for when the money starts coming in.

I'm just starting out so my media for the DaVinci Resolve tutorials are on my laptop's internal SSD, but I have been backing up my other files to a NAS for years now, hence I was thinking of editing off the NAS, possibly adding SSD storage... except that my NAS network card seems to have downgraded from 2.5 to 1 Gbps, which I suspect will make editing over the local network painful. As such, the idea of editing off directly connected external SSD is interesting (though I won't need two because my NAS would be the backup, and would itself be backed up).

Thank you Joseph for this great video full of tips. I've been struggling with my channel in finding the right software to find music that I can sing a long to. My intention for my RUclips channel is creating songs for meditation and prayer. Where can I find music that I can record my voice over by creating my own lyrics and then add video affects and then upload to RUclips with no issues? thank you

Hey Stephanie! I’m not aware of any services that permit this type of usage for their tracks, but maybe you could reach out to some artists on SoundCloud to see if they’d want to work with you. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. I’m looking into buying a monitor to pair my MacBook Air. I wanna be able to share other content from one screen to another while recording. I’m using streamyard to record. Any recommendations on a good 4k monitor?

Well the absolute BEST option imo is the apple studio monitor- I have one and it’s great. It’s just INSANELY expensive.
Personally I dont have any other positive recommendations, but I would stay away from dell. My dell monitor was a huge pain to get color balanced to my mac and it started flickering randomly just over a year after buying (i think this was also caused by incompatibility with mac).

Highly recommend the LG 32UN880-B. There's also a 27 inch version if you want to save a little money, the 27UN880-B. It has fairly good color reproduction and comes with an awesome monitor arm out of the box. So far this monitor has been my alternative given that the Apple Studio Display is well out of my current budget. Color reproduction isn't as good as the Studio Display, but it's beyond adequate for REC.709 deliverables (not super confident in its HDR capabilities on the other hand, but chances are that doesn't matter to you).

I started with FCPX and have been hearing about Davinci Resolve… thinking about changing over but I have to go through the learning curve. What are some good RUclips videos to watch for help??

There are so many creators that help with Davinci. My personal favorites are Casey Farris and Ryan Herrick. They've both saved me hours of confusion and time wasting.

I second Casey Farris, but also check out @Darryn Mostyn (for color grading) and @Jake Felzien !
