- This old Chevy was once a restored beauty but has been sitting outside for 21 years. Come along as I try to get this car running and moving out of its resting place!
Awesome video at 5 am in the morning!
Had one of these 17 years after my Grandfather had a '49. Brings back such happy memories. Always thought it was a happy looking car, a grill with a smile.
Glad this video brought back some good memories.
Your content is good. Keep running the will it run videos. Too many on RUclips try to get out into other things and ruins the simple pleasure. Thanks again. Dave
I hear you. I'll always do the will it runs and some repair videos thrown in.
I agree, this is the most rewarding content. Hopefully they will stick to this formula.
Disagree, will it run videos are boring as hell,I want to see a good restoration job
Very nicely done. The owner is all smiles. Love to see that. Hope he enjoys driving it once more.
I think he will. It needs a few more things to be roadworthy, but nothing too difficult.
You deserve to have close to a million subs, you deserve it, thank you
Thank you, that is very nice, Your comment is much appreciated.
Had a 50 coupe just like yours when I was a college kid in college. Brought back some good memories. No one ever told me not to run more then 60 mph on the highway. I drove 65 mph until it threw a rod. Ups!
Great story!
OMG, my first car was 1952 Chevy Deluxe. Completely original! 3 on the tree, 235 6cyl, 4-door. Had a windup clock on the dash that kept perfect time!
Nice! I have a video of a 52 coming soon!
I'd say about 80% of the classic vehicles I brought home when I lived in Alabama from my friends junkyard always had a good happy ending just like this, for just a little patience and a little tune-up that fire right back up, my last project was a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook with a flathead 6 and the original six volt system and she heard and sound just like this old Chevy after a couple of days of love
Totally agree!
what a wonderful old car. I really enjoyed your video. You have yourself a new subscriber :) take care!
Thank you for the support!
Love the old school mechanics. Thanks. Love the sound.
Congratulations on reviving this old warrior, for the forgotten time it got easy it seem carros antigos bons motores..
Yea, I keep all my bungee cords in my pickup truck tool box right next to all of my various ratchet straps.
The part you were looking at on the steering wheel is the horn Ring. I have a 50 Chevy. Yours is just broken.
I love your Channel & I just subscribed. Looking forward to watching all the videos. Greetings from California.
Thank you for the support!
Great camera skills! I was matching you word for word: crazy, wow, amazing.
Thanks very much!
Fun video that brought back memories. Our family car in the 50s was a 49 Chevy. I got my drivers license in it on my 16th birthday. It didn't have turn signals so I had to use arm signals, which we were taught in drivers ed in HS.
I remember hand signals very well. I owned a 50 Chevy once that did not have turn signals until I bought it.
It’s a good thing you have your Chuck Norris T shirt on, if you’re gonna get stung anyway.😂
Those where work horses. My dad had a 51, we cut a big maple tree the trunk set on the saw's bar. my brother climbed up the tree, hooked rope to it, and the other end to the car, and pulled the tree down. With basically the same mechanics as this 50 model. Dad painted houses for a living, he carried his step ladders in the trunk, a 40' and 20' wooden extension ladders on top.
I wish I had one now.
That is a great story. Do you have any pictures with the ladders on top?
Dang it runs so nice!
cool car. not too much to get goin. great job.
Thanks 👍
Get here done. Bro
The heater is the "more expensive" Chevrolet dealer option Air Flow heater. You will see the core for it on the right inner fender. The "those are for" is the remnant of the half circle horn blow ring that were part of the DeLuxe wheel. It is not an oil bath air cleaner...it is the standard non-oil bath air cleaner. Only the wire mesh has oil on it. This car also has the 1950 Chevrolet accessory hood ornament.
That is great info Josh. Thank you for taking the time to write it. I have seen so many different kinds of heaters in these early 50 Chevys, there must have been at least 4 different kinds used.
Also, I really enjoy watching your rescues and as sweet as Christina is, I definitely prefer your narration vs all the Christina small talk in the background. Just my constructive criticism. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Mark. We bought this same car yesterday, so you will see it again in a future video.
It is really, really sad that the owner has let this sweet ride sit here and get in this sad shape. I also used to have a '50 Chevy. Mine was a two door with the six cylinder three on-the-tree. Loved that car. Had to let it go because I wasn't making enough money at the time (very early 60's) to pay for insurance and maintenance. I've always had a fondness for these cars.
I do as well. Just something about them that is simple and cool.
Something that really helps with off setting the cost of resurrecting these old cars is throughout the year collecting any brand of oil that you run across that's cheap. I've done it forever I'm talking garage sales estate sales discount stores even when your just on a road trip. You can get a quart of oil anywhere from a quarter to a few bucks. 1 here 2 there. I've collected over 40 quarts of oil in a garage sale season and only paid about 60$ for all of them. Yeah they were mis matched but I was able to resurrect old cars that had no oil in em and and run em for just about nothing. Same with oil filters you never know if your gonna run into a car that uses that 50 cent oil filter you picked up at that yard sale.
Richard does the same thing! I bet the two of you could trade estate sale stories for days! Thanks for watching!
best cars ever.
Great video. Love the content of your channel. Those old 1950 Chevy's are a joy to see again and again. Another classic for someone to enjoy driving. Thanks!
Thanks very much. I have some more early 50s Chevy's coming.
Old man in my town had a '50. Bought it brand new and never missed a car show even when he was well into his 90s. Passed about ten yrs ago maybe more. Never saw it again.
You should go look for it man
New subscriber. Love this channel. No cursing❤ I've been watching for awhile. Had to subscribe. Enjoy it. Thanks for sharing....
Thank you for the support. More stuff coming!
Joy on an English summer evening
Absolutely
72 years old, enthusiastic engine, hardly a dent or any rust. A worthy and relatively simple restoration for somebody. 👍
That has got to be the worst weed eater I have ever seen! Car runs sweet though!
Yes, that is what $20 will get you. I guess I'll stick with cars.
Shame that was left outside unused like this.
So true. I am hoping someone buys it and brings it back.
Back when cars actually had style. And that's one of the crucial things we need.......zip ties, bungee cords, and duck tape. Lol.
These cars are 6 volts. (Yes, there are 6 volt alternators.) Using 12 volts will burn out your bulbs and fry the radio, heater fan, etc.
You have lots of views on your videos compared to subs. Just found your channel and im liking the revivals need to tell these folks to subscribe.
Right. The subs are building slowly, so I am hopeful the numbers will take off soon.
73 years old, ignored for 73 years and not a single dent.
the "stubs" on the wheel are the ends of the broken horn ring
A great find.Nice to see you cleaned the front screen before driving.
Beautiful !!! Hermoso !!!
Great Job on that 1950 beauty
Thank you!
Thanks for showing off this great 1950. Looking forward to seeing more of these classic post war gems.
Thank you. More are coming!
You put a 12v battery in there it uses a 6v @@whattherust
That inline 6 sounds real good. Especially since it's a Babbitt rod engine. I'm assuming it's 2:35 it could be a 216. Is the car currently for sale? Thank you for the video. It's kind of nice seeing one of these cars with the original six-cylinder in it and not hot rodded out
I think the owner would sell it. He is getting on in the years.
Amazing ease to get it running after twenty plus years I believe 50 was the first year for the 235, but only with the Powerglide automatic. Insert bearings started after 48.
216 cubic in is what it has.
I'm 76 and worked on many of these growing up. Loved them then and still do to this day
"Old school custom"??? Meaning it was customized in the '50s-earlie '60s?
I don't see anything custom on it or in it, except for the 2 front chrome reverse wheels.
I do like your funnel "gas tank" trick however. 🙂
I remember back in the 60's and living on a farm, we had a 52 Chevy I think, we had to push it to get it started. You have a new subscriber. Love your content. Thank you for helping this veteran get his car running again that brought a big smile on his face.
Thank you for the support. I'll keep the videos coming.
Good thing there wasn't any bees under car. !!
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!! (BABBVEN LAWS AND TEBBVEN ORDERS)!!!!
That sounds horrible. Sorry to hear it.
Just found you, great video. I will be browsing all the rest. I have a 1950 Plymouth business coup with a stuck lifter. Not sure if I want to dump more money in the pit.
Welcome Ronald. A 50 Plymouth is a unique vehicle. Perhaps using Mystery oil will free up the lifter?
@@whattherust Lots of MMO - long story, got it to free up, but happened again 3 months later, Not sure how to make sure it does not happen again, can't find the right valve spring compression tool.
again one saved ....above all it must stay like it is .
Yes!
You use that weed eater like your scared of it!😂 you think it's gonna bite ya?!😂
I call it an oil change without turning a wrench I had a 1949 painted beige first thing I would do when an engine hasn’t run for years squirt some marvel mystery oil down each plug hole so you don’t get a dry start up but that’s just me and a mixture of dawn dish soap and water mix works better than 🐝 wasp spray
I love Marvel Mystery oil. I use it for a lot of different things. Good tip for the wasp spray!
I never understood why people leave such cars outside for decades to rot in a bush, why not put it in a garage if you love it so much that you dont sell it?
Have the weed wacka at full noise when cutting long grass and be patient, don't bury the cutter in the grass. Love the car.
Very good content.
Thank you! More good stuff is coming.
Very cool!!!!!!!!!!
Runs great and its a two door ! Only one negative thing those clear plastic fuel filters are a fire waiting to happen. especially when placed between the carb and fuel pump.
The metal filters are best. Never use glass if you can avoid it.
A fine video, and such a nice find, that old vet tho will probably never do anything with it as its still needing work that his abilities are limited to, he is my age as we are vets of nam.
Thanks! Yes, it still needs a fair amount of work to be road-worthy and safe.
You should buy this one…
smooth ride love those older rides. leave her as it is and enjoy
I'd be the first one there to ask the gentleman if he'd sell it ;)
I think he would sell it.
216 cu in. babbitt rod engine,,,,,,,,,,,,
Purrs like a kitten,A Great ‘50 Chevy! Love The Visor; I Enjoyed The Video,Take Care, Your Oregon Friend ☮️
Those old 6 cylinder chev and fords are just about indestructible
They always seem to come back
Usually with minimal work!
Great video
Thanks
Thanks! Yes, those engines are very impressive.
Oops I spoke to soon!🤔
Your videos are much better than that goofball with the vise grips!
Thanks, I appreciate the support!
Those old Chevy 6 poppers were g reat engines. Smooth as glass. Premix sounds like a good idea for first start fuel. My Dad had a 53 but it was pretty rusty and then got stolen.
I watch a lot of similar videos to this but this was the best start-up ever, amazing.
Wow, thanks! More to come!
72 years old 95hp. best sounding six shot i ever heard she will still kick that a$$. what a find,,
Oil filters were a factory option. Oil filter didn't become standard on Chevy until about 1967.
My first starts: Remove plugs, squirt some thin lube into each cylinder, rotate fan a few times with plugs out, put new oil into engine, install plugs then try starting.
Awesome! 👍👍👍 great to hear her fire up once again! And drive too! Good job! 😎
Thanks David! This one needs to be saved.
at least 2 people were living in this car
Hahaha!
Beautiful car; love those visors over the windshield. Beautiful interior design.
IT LOOKS A RAD LEAK. NOT GOOD
Good old car sounds great
That’s a great survivor
Those things under the steering wheel are the stubs of a broken horn ring with rubber tips put on to prevent injuries.
I would not have guessed that!
..The gas will drain back into the tank when the car has been sitting, an electric pumps is good to bring it up..
Was the horn ring but broke off.
Turns out that is exactly what happened.
That is really cool and I really can't believe that a car can sit in the open for 20 years, and you can make it run again. I really hope someone can save that car.
I hope so too.
@@whattherust where is it ? I'd like to make him an offer
@@oldschool9537 It is in Dickson, TN.
Love your stuff! Thank you! The car needs it's timing set now.
Thanks Greg.
Gas tank and lines and new breaks tires it drive
Right on!
Another great old Chevy brought back to life! Runs like a champ! Great video. I’m sorry you got stung by a wasp in your efforts.
It is OK. It happens and I am not allergic. Thanks for watching.
Great rescuseing a grand old lady would love to be able to fully restore it .
Finally, the first time i see you taking the time to weed out around an working area around a car. And maybe removing stuff thats in the way. Bravo 👏. I like your video's, your simple approach to get these car/truck to run again. Two 👍 up.
Michael from the Province of Quebec, Canada.
Such a beautiful car
Love ❤️ your videos, first the Riviera now a 50 chev
Thanks George!
@@whattherust Looking forward 👌 to another video, enjoy watching someone that really knows what he is doing 😀. Do many or any of your car rescue get back to you with further work or restoration done?
New sub! Liked 🙏😀
Thanks for the support. More stuff coming!
They had oil fired air canister instead ,love them old Chevys
Need to be careful of wasps! Whoa!!One got me!!🙄🤦
Someone left a clamp off the fuel line!! Opps- That was me!!🤭🔥
Nice job! Really surprised that you can revive these vehicles. Amazing 👏👏
1. Back in that era, heaters were a factory option. You paid extra. Also backup lights. Turn signals were aftermarket.
2. ALWAYS have a copy of your important files on your own media, offline.
Right, that was a tough lesson to learn.
The radio and heater did not become standard until the 70s.
Sweet ride !
I own a 2010 prius that uses oil on a regular basis. I know it so I check it around once every 3 months. It needs about 1/2 qt in that period. That car uses oil and it was most likely female driven in that day since in that time period ladies would not check the oil after the old gas stations went to self serv. I hope I can say that?
Did you notice the cooking pot next to the radiator to keep it from overheating? I'd recommend a 4 core radiator for it. It's a possibility that's why it was parked. Between a low volume water pump and a narrow radiator it could have had some serious overheating problems in its past that were never taken care of.. New headliner and a really good detail and paint job would turn this baby into a gem at a car show!!
It would for sure. This car could be a driver with just a few days of work.
Perhaps invite classes of kids to tour the building but include videos of the identifiable offenders so that the class members can anonymously identify the offenders!
It always amazes me that the car’s owner knows you’re coming to work on their car, but don’t have the foresight, curiosity to cut the weeds around it.
This old man's ready to cruise again.
235 is a Babbitt crank splash oilier its not a full oil presser eng. that is a stock oil filter from the factory. the car is all stock. some one changed it to 12 volts
Great video love seeing the old cars start up again.
Thank you! This was one very rewarding.
