- In Part 13 of this video series, I install the intake manifold, fuel pump, and valve covers onto my Mercruiser 5.7L V8. Be sure to check out the other engine build videos!

Watched the entire set. Thanks for posting. I need to do similar as I am certain I have a cracked block. It makes for real good information to see a build from the perspective of someone that is not a pro. You point to mistakes that a pro wouldn't make or show.
Did you ever find the cause of the water? And did you check for a bent rod in that cylinder? I would think that any amount of water in a cylinder would bend or break something
Marc, thanks for commenting and watching the other videos. It means a lot to me personally that people can get some use out of these videos! I don't know for sure where the water originally came from. My guess is maybe a head gasket failure but I'm not 100 percent confident. There was a little bit of a pass through You are exactly right that I'm not a professional engine builder or boat repair tech! Mistakes happen as I go along for sure but thats part of the fight in every project. You're right about a rod could bend with water in a cylinder. Definitely possible. I didn't see anything obvious. I guess only time will tell. 🤞
I like how you have music playing throughout the entire video; adds nice dimension.
I do too. But there isn't much to choose from sadly. Lots of terrible songs as you well know.
Sorry another question so quick, I might have missed, I sort of skipped parts where you were in fast forward. What boat specific parts did you use here? Head gaskets stainless?
Also surprised to see a 2 bolt main. I have read multiple places to look for a 4 bolt main bearing for boat motors.
For the engine side of things, I used all just automotive stuff right or wrong. I'm in fresh water so I really am not too worried about stainless head gaskets. Honestly if I have to do anything with it again, I'm going to get a suburban engine from the junkyard and swap the cam and ride out. But I figured I would try this first and see how it goes. We'll find out soon enough haha.
Thank you for the video 605BOLT. I have a 5.0MPI which is basically the same block and need to replace the valve covers and gasket. I am going with Mercruiser/Quicksilver gaskets, but I can't seem to find any information on the install process. Would you know if the gaskets just go on dry for the valve covers?
Nice!! Glad these videos helped you out. Mine didn't require any type of sealant or anything and I assume most don't. I wouldn't use any sealant if I was in your spot.
Lol "pitted"
😂
