@@tonywye aright Tony. Well I put a new one in it didn't solve the issue 😭 changed all the fuses relevant to the heating system still no joy. Maybe the fans just dead?
Nice video Tony. I had a similar problem in my Roomster. The resistor tend to fail when the fan runs with resistance. When you turned on the fan in your video you can hear a bit of noise. I think that is a bad bearing in the fan motor. The fan motor is not hard to change in your car... it is more difficult in the mk. 2 Fabia/Roomster. Cheers!
sorenhedegaard thanks for the comments. I cleaned the Motor after the resistor failed the 2nd time, when I spin it by hand it just went round 1 turn, after cleaning and oiling it does a few turns so hopefully that will help reduce the resistance. Also I’ll turn the fan off when I don’t really need it (I left it on setting 1 for the last 10 years ;-) ). Can’t complain about these minor things that are easy to fix on an 11 year old car

Same problem with my Mk3. Called the dealer asking them to order the part first as I don't want to visit them twice even though it's under warranty. Unfortunately they won't just order the part in advance and insisted that I bring the car in for a diagnosis first. On well, two trips then.
You're welcome. Actually its failed again last week for me :-( so the replacement only lasted 5 months, I will take out the fan and clean and oil it as perhaps its the fan causing overload on the resistors.

Yes the resistor pack blew for the second time after a few months so I took out the fan and cleaned it (it only span a couple of times when spinning it by hand), still for a 12 year old car it’s still going strong.
Hi Tony, did the glove box side panel take much work to remove. Is there any hidden screw fasteners for it or did you just carefully prize it off? This is the bit I'm struggling with. Don't want to damage of course. Cheers
Mick Tate When you open the glove box there are three or four screws you need to remove, that’s it, you should be able to see them quite easily, then the glove box just falls down with gravity.
jazzyman99 yes it’s still working fine, 1 Year now . I didn’t put oil on the fan bearing I just cleaned out the dust etc so that it span by hand quite nicely
Umair Ahmed usually speed 1,2,3 stop working when the resistor pack is blown. Speed 4 does not use the resistor pack. But guess it could be half broken so only speed 1 is broken.

@Lachlan Chartier, Yes, I replaced my resistor pack today and it works fine on all speeds now. I think its normal for resistors to fail over time due to corrosion and heat, but I would recommend you to replace your Pollen filter too which is right next to the resistor pack. Christ, is there anything that doesn't break in Skoda's - I thought they were meant to be reliable. Reason I'm crusty, I had a 6 year-old skoda delivered today by a dealer. After he'd gone, I discovered in disbelief that 1) neither front electric side-windows work, 2) the central locking buttons don't work, and 3) the blower only works at setting 4. Christ again, I'm cursed - as are these POS Fabias. Good video though, at least I know what the problem with the fan blower.
Had my Fabia over 13 years and the only 4 things I've had done: 1) fan resistor 2)rear seat catch 3) handbrake seizure (it gets to -15oC here), 4) rear door water leakage. 3 of these I fixed my self. I'd say that's pretty amazing for 13 years.
@@tonywye Hi. Thanks for the response. I've calmed down a bit since yesterday :) Spent the day investigating the side-windows - water damage on both driver & passenger doors. Got both working again, but the switches need replacing - which I've discovered is dirt-cheap via Ebay. The blower problem is a cheap fix as well, but what I can't fathom is why VW/Skoda continued to fit these sub-standard parts - there must be 100's of YT'ers having experienced the same 'level 4' dilemma. I've have a 2000 Corolla, and a 1994 Peugeot, whose fan blowers have never given me a moments grief. VW cars are renowned for holding their value, but experiencing stuff like this first-hand, I can't for the life of me understand why.
Same thing fitted in all vw golfs polos seat ibiza's leons so they will go in any of the models. You only need to replace the thermol fuse on the end in most cases, cost about 1 euro.
No, they are a bit crap. Bought a new Skoda Octavia Diesel Estate in 2015. All four glow-plugs have failed. Clutch blew up just outside of warranty. I live in daily fear...
adam stockton - please don’t ask , my Wife broke it 10 years ago when she got in the car with a big handbag, it’s impossible to mend. I think they are €40 or more for new ones but I didn’t try
Won't be replacing it this time. Just rang the dealer, over £60 for a resistor now. They can keep it. Rip off. I'll make do with the heater on speed 4, if it packs in then I'll just get rid of the car. Disappointing this issue. Had cars before that were over 10 years old and nothing like this happened. Mine is 8 years old. 2nd time now the resistor has packed in..

I think speed 4 doesn't use any resistors (since it's full power) so if it doesn't work on speed 4 then it sound like the fan is dead

All I really know is that on 4th speed it doesnt use the resistors at all (fan is direct to 12 volts).

Tony Wye, my Skoda Fabia recently stopped working on the 1st speed. Is it my blower resistor thats going out???
