Aaron Toney who doubles for Anthony Mackie since Captain America: The Winter Soldier is phenomenal. He also appeared as a Winter Soldier during the Flashbacks to Captain America: Civil War with Scarlet Jo's stunt double Heid Moneymaker.
The first episode had the best aerial action sequence with The Falcon at the Canyon trying to save a U.S. army soldier. That whole sequence was a nice callback to Captain America: The Winter Soldier with The Falcon helping Steve Rogers by preventing S.H.I.E.L.D's launching of the insight satellite against future threats and if you listen carefully the score also matched to the 2014 film particularly to that scene.
Enfys Nest who is in this show was in that scene during the heist scene for the Flag Smasher. She just didn't remove her mask when she was giving out the masks to other people.
U.S. agent John Walker is going to be a patsy for the U.S. Government. Of course he has gotten the Super Soldier serum but he will take it to the extreme when it comes to protecting America which is not going to look good for the US government. For Sam Wilson and James Buchanan Bucky Barnes is forging their own identities not wanting to continue what Steve Rogers started. That's the focus in this show and it will be interesting how it will all go.
@@GoliathWarfare yeah. His is a little more broad i think is the word. A family member coming back to their humble beginnings after leaving to serve, for a university, or because of quick success.

The reveal of why Bucky is hanging out with Yori hit hard. He deserves a redemption arc so much. SO happy they brought the Winter Soldier theme back though, chills every time.
The flashbacks to Bucky Barnes during his Winter Soldier days taking out target looked really good. It brought back to Captain America: Civil War when he was training the next generation Winter Soldiers. The scene with Bucky Barnes sleeping on the ground in his apartment reflected to what Sam Wilson said to Steve Rogers in Captain America: The Winter Soldier: "It's your bed, right? Your bed, it's too soft. When I was over there I'd sleep on the ground and use rock for pillows, like a caveman. Now I'm home, lying in my bed, and it's like..." with Rogers saying "Lying on a marshmallow. Feel like I'm gonna sink right to the floor."
Sebastian stan is really good in these subtitle moments. Sebastian has the ability to look like a sweet man (Bucky) and a cold killer (Winter Soldier) at the same time.
I really hope that Sam and Bucky will be able to help each other. In CATWS, Sam worked at the VA and seemed to be coaching some people suffering with some PTSD and struggling to leave the war behind. Maybe he could help Bucky do that too. And who better to make Sam believe in himself to be Captain America, than Captain America’s childhood best friend?
I hope too that Sam will help Bucky in that way because that's psychiatrist is doing it wrong. No wonder Bucky says in a trailer "If we're doing it, we're doing it our way". He must be sick of people controling him and what the government as put on him is just like internment with the illusion of being free while they keep a close watch over him.
Bro they kept that shield in that case for exactly 3 minutes before they gave it to US agent. They basically waited for Sam to go to the bathroom and then took it. The ultimate sign of disrespect.
True, they've been cool, but not that much regarding their characters, and definitely don't like, love them to the extent of Tony Stark, and other characters so...it will make me love them since it seems it's gonna be more of their characters and developing better.
If you think about it, Sam's mistake of giving back Cap's shield pretty much mirrored Peter's mistake in Far From Home when he gave Tony's E.D.I.T.H. glasses to Mysterio.
I love that they made Sam's back story to match Anthony Mackie's native Louisiana background. I know that they filmed this in Georgia, but they did an amazing job making it look like southern Louisiana!
I noticed that in the Bucky scenes they were heavily hitting the PTSD with everything that has happened to him when he was under mind control by Hydra. So I feel like it's touching 2 different topics with each character
Yeah, I loved how when he went on that date and his back was to the door and window he checks it out first before settling down. Always on guard even if he doesn't have to be.

That shot of Bucky with the forest behind him is probably my favorite shot in this episode. It’s like it represents how easy it would be to get lost in Bucky’s broken mind like getting lost in an endless forest.

I don't think Sam did the right thing by turning in the shield. Steve wouldn't agree. Steve knows better than to trust the government. Sam was who Steve chose to be Captain America and he made a mistake not owning it. Sam's arc will revolve around him feeling worthy of the shield and title.
@@PoopaChallupa I agree, but I get the feeling that if Sam hadn't turned the shield over, he wouldn't have been able to publicly use it. The government would have considered it stolen property and come after him.
I feel so bad for Bucky. He said renembers everyone he killed. That must be at least 60, 70 years of memories of not being on control of your own body, hurting innocents and causing destruction, now he has control back, so what? How do you go to live after this? How do you make amends to the people your hurted and specially, to yourself? This was a great start. I see this show is taking lessons from The Winter Soldier not only on the action, but on grounding its charecters and conflict, which is something that I really love. Great reaction!
After having watched the first episode, I now kind of have a sense of why the Falcon program was iced after Sam retired. Without him and Riley, there just wasn't anyone else left to carry on. Sam's control and response time is insane, and he's just a normal human. Imagine if he was a super soldier.
My father worked in advertising as a creative director here in Montreal and he worked a lot with Kari Skogland. He passed away last year from Covid, but when I visited him on Christmas 2019, I told him about her directing The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. He was very happy for Kari. He was a huge fan of the MCU. Unfortunately, he never got to see Infinity War or Endgame, but I'm sure Stan is giving him a private viewing of all the recent MCU stuff. Great reaction and review, guys. Cheers !
I totally agree with your take on this and how layered and incredible the writing, direction, and acting was on this first episode. I've only watched it 4 times (so far)l Thanks for your take, guys! I'm really looking forward to this story! And Loki? As DB Cooper? (I live in Oregon, so...I'll be on the lookout for that Hiddlebum for sure! Lol! )
Okayyy, this is gonna be a long one. 1) In terms of Wandavision, my favorite videos were by you guys, new rockstars and john campea. I expect the same for this show. I loved this episode so much and I ama glad we're on the same page. 2) This show did something amazing for me from the first episode, they are REALLY touching on a lot of important topics that are relevant to our world and especially these times. Racism, economic struggles, self-doubt with Sam, PTSD and, especially with Bucky, what soldiers go through when they come back to home. Gotta love that. 3) That sequence in the beginning of the episode is DEFINITELY the best Falcon action-piece I've ever seen. 4) I loved seeing Rhodey again. 5) Seeing assassin brain-washed Bucky in action again was amazing. 6) I cannot emphasize enough how much I love the way they're going with the shield storyline. What they did to Sam, the government lying to him about keeping the shield in the museum and then immediately giving it to a white PR puppet is just tragic but so fucking realistic and, I'm sorry to say this, it is American. That is unfortunately the way the government is and I love this bold choice by Marvel. 7) Speaking of bold choices, there is a surprising amount of dark deaths in this episode. 8) I, at first, thought that old guy was just a random friend to Bucky. When watching the episode, I even joked to my sister about how he has an old friend because he is an old man himself. That twist of that guy being the father of the innocent guy that Bucky killed in the flashback scene just hit me really hard. I REALLY love this in-depth character study of Bucky. 9) Flag Smashers are a really interesting group with, again, fascinating motivation. Everybody was sad about how in 'Far From Home', the blip was almost a joke. I love how with first Wandavision and now with Falcon and The Winter Soldier, they handle The Blip. 10) The guy who was with Sam is actually a character from the comics. He becomes the new falcon in the comics. I am curios which direction they will go with this character. I also must say I love the actor who plays him, such a charming dude. 11) Again with the blip effect, I love the storyline of the ceonomic struggle that Sam's sister is going through. The discussion of family legacy is amazing parallel to the legacy of the shield and Captain himself. So in summary, I am amazed by this first episode and who knows when the show is done, I might like it a little bit better than Wandavision, we'll see.
Loved this episode, Mackie is and excellent Falcon and is making the role his own. I hope they give his due to Bucky and he can finally become the hero he is/was. And man, am I the only one now pumped up for the Armor Wars series?!
@@jeanpaulmedellin And maybe we'll get more personal stuff with him after what happened to his spine/legs, like how he copes with having to wear the thing that makes him able to walk. (Wish I knew the name of it.) Y'know, kind of like the personal things we've seen just in ep 1 of TFatWS. 🙂
I have to say, this reaction and commentary is the definition of firing on all cylinders. Clinic really in describing or put into words what I felt about this episode. 100%. Even the description "feels like a Marvel movie brought to tv".
It's interesting that Bucky inherits some of Steve's traits in this show. He's the man out of time now (because even though he was awake it was only for missions with no life outside them) and he has a list of things to do, like Steve had.
I honestly assumed there would be a story line where a group of people who survived the blip would form a sort of supremacist faction against those who didn't. Kind of a "we are the true citizens of Earth those who blipped don't deserve to be here"
Honestly i’d like to think that in the mcu retcon, the defenders are a group that was formed to keep order when the avengers were retired. That would probably give Matt Murdock a decent story in Spider-Man no way home and could tease a revised version of the defenders
26:53 @The Reel rejects, Yori Nakamura played by Ken Takemoto is Japanese, both the actor and the character. While I could be totally wrong on this, I think this right here is proof that Jaby doesn't speak Japanese at all and probably shouldn't have critiqued Ken Takemoto's Japanese in this episode--My brothers can't speak Japanese but because of me they know what it sounds like, Greg isn't able to do that as shown right here. Anyway, I enjoyed your reactions and I cannot wait until next week to watch another =D
I think them being near the Tunisia-Libya border was a reference to where the original Star Wars nearly started a war. They were filming in Tunisia near the border and the Libyans thought the Jawa Sandcrawler was a new massively armed Tunisian military vehicle about to invade.
The tone of this show is awesome. I like how it feels like it could take place in our world. Plus your interview with Kari has me so hyped for the rest of the show.
I am so glad that this show is taking the time to remind the audience of what exactly Bucky has gone through. PTSD, survivors guilt among many things, it goes deeper into the character that has only had the developments of his character implied by Sebastian Stan’s amazing non-dialogue acting and moments had off screen. I hope that by the end of this series that Sam realizes that, like Steve, he is indeed worthy.
You had already talked about the character development in your Director’s interview, but I wonder if you also feel like the music for Bucky was especially powerful here because of that? My understanding is that his music stamp was created through a manipulation of a human scream, which I feel like, sitting there with Yumi (sp?) talking about the son that Bucky killed, the sound of screaming set to his stoic look...really worked to emphasize that storm under the surface you referenced here in a way that it didn’t work, for me anyway, in the movies.
I honestly hope they’re gradually phased into the MCU. Maybe hint at weapon X, enhanced folk who inherit powers naturally rather than takes on super-soldier serum etc.
@@nefarious8141 they can introduce weapon X this phase now like why wait another 8 years just to introduce certain characters. Wolverine is a character that should appear in the last years of phase 4 or at least a mention of logan.
Great first episode, sets up character development and pacing, alongside awesome starter action. Interesting to see how superheroes coping with post blip situations that are relatable to real life problems. Can't wait to see more character reveals next few episodes. And yes, the Asian girl is actually... Mephisto! 😂😂😂
Let's not call him "the dude" from Winter Soldier okay? That's the classic Marvel villain Batroc the Leaper. He's a french mercenary and martial artist. The fact that they got world renowned French Canadian mixed martial artist Georges St. Pierre to play him is quite awesome. Absolute perfection in casting! Heck, even his real first name is similar to the character.
Bucky and Sam are the one of the few characters that I like both in the comics and the mcu and this series makes me so happy to see their characters fleshed out. "Repressed sarcastic asshole" my favorite Bucky description hahaha!
I loved Bucky's therapist in this - she reminded me a lot of my old therapist! And I totally agree about the typical characterization of therapists in media - my therapist was much more similar to Bucky's. She didn't take any of my shit, we bantered/joked around, I often tried to dodge her questions and she'd be like "No, stop it, you're lying." I'm always happy to see realistic portrayals of therapists
Has there ever before been a scene of a superhero applying for a loan and having to explain his financial setup? And we see more about what the Snap/Blip did to the world. These shows are so perfect for giving us details about these characters, their lives, and their world that the movies just don't have the time or space to get into

Its finaly here the reaction video thanks editor of reel rejects👍
This is what I've been waiting for
Sea bears
I don't think Sam did the right thing by turning in the shield. Steve wouldn't agree. Steve knows better than to trust the government. Sam was who Steve chose to be Captain America and he made a mistake not owning it. Sam's arc will revolve around him feeling worthy of the shield and title.
@@PoopaChallupa I agree, but I get the feeling that if Sam hadn't turned the shield over, he wouldn't have been able to publicly use it. The government would have considered it stolen property and come after him.
Love it already. A lot of Captain America 2 vibes makes me happy
This show is so grounded, I love how it is already fleshing out the characters. I am loving getting Sam backstory and dude the bucky stuff hits hard.
Yeah totally agree love how grounded this show is it’s brilliant
Its nice to see The Leaper return. I really like the MCU's portrayal of him.
It would be even better if they got GSP back for Ms. Marvel.
I was happy to see Batroc return
I love that we finally got to see the personal lives of Sam when hes not saving the world
"That felt realistic !!!"
Yeah. Cause that was real. :)
The dude at the beginning is George St-Pierre! One of the greatest UFC fighter ever! Glad he’s back again!
Lol! )
Man the last part hurt really bad😭😭😭
Right in the feels for bucky man
I watched the snyder cut and it ended at 2am so I was ready for Episode 1 to come out. Loved both of them🔥
@joszeyy I liked it didnt love it too many slow-motion scenes and darkseid was honestly trash
That music callback to Winter Soldier at the end was great. I hope they use that theme more.
I only recently learned that War Machine is getting a series. I'll definitely watch it because I like Don Cheadle as Rhodey. 😊
@@loonylaura85 i know, he’s done such a great job, he’s a great actor and is about time he gets the spotlight in the MCU.
"Got face smashed by Flag Smashers" I lost it😂😂
"One Fal-Can"... Um Sir, You just unlocked Super reasoning and knowledge 🤣😂
I've been waiting for this. Always looking forward to seeing your reactions. The BEST out there
Yori (that old Japanese man) will make a deal with Mephisto so he can get his son back to life
😂 Then Sam makes a deal with mephisto to get the shield back
@@ariyansingh4914 then starlord makes a deal with Mephisto to lose weight
Why do the old man setting Bucky up on the date remind me of iroh setting zuko up on a date at the tea shop
Omg an avatar can!
Falcon is literally DROPPING BODIES
"Have you heard of the ship of Theseus?" xDDDDDDDDD
It's interesting that Bucky inherits some of Steve's traits in this show. He's the man out of time now (because even though he was awake it was only for missions with no life outside them) and he has a list of things to do, like Steve had.
Admittedly Bucky's list of things to do stems from a much darker place than Steve's....
@@auberginemanproductions1608 yeah because Bucky lost his virginity before going under
@@RealogOnlyBrodie I was talking about the assassinations but ok
CGI in this episode was almost realistic, those POV’s are amazing.
The skydiving scene was actual stunt divers. They gave a dedicated page for the stunt actors in the credits.
It was real stunts
Anthony mackie done skydiving work for this scene too which is great
@@ariyansingh4914 Yeah, I'm pretty sure Mackie did the close up stunts.
Tunisia is in this 🇹🇳😍 my home country
Me too 😍😍
I think them being near the Tunisia-Libya border was a reference to where the original Star Wars nearly started a war. They were filming in Tunisia near the border and the Libyans thought the Jawa Sandcrawler was a new massively armed Tunisian military vehicle about to invade.
It was only the first episode and the ending hit me harder than expected
I just got that the Arabic guy who thanked Sam for bringing back his wife was probably referring to her getting unblipped.
I believe that was the point
Probably, but he actually didn’t since he was blipped too.
I am so glad we’re getting to see more of Bucky’s PTSD and guilt and even moreso it being on a tv show as we haven’t got enough Bucky in the films.
Oh man, it’s gonna be scary how much I love Bucky by the end of this lol
looking forward to watching along with you guys in the next few weeks
I think we all collectively went "Noooooo" when US Agent showed up.
"The Falcon was denied a bank loan" - Ron Burgundy
You had already talked about the character development in your Director’s interview, but I wonder if you also feel like the music for Bucky was especially powerful here because of that? My understanding is that his music stamp was created through a manipulation of a human scream, which I feel like, sitting there with Yumi (sp?) talking about the son that Bucky killed, the sound of screaming set to his stoic look...really worked to emphasize that storm under the surface you referenced here in a way that it didn’t work, for me anyway, in the movies.
Shows gonna be lit and hope we see a mutant soon, cuz there have been rumors n teases in the past of omega red appearing in the show.
i think mutants won't come in through the shows
I honestly hope they’re gradually phased into the MCU.
Mephisto! 😂😂😂
In comics Torres becomes Falcon, when Falcon finally takes mantle of Captain America
Falcon's father was quite an important character in the comics. It's a shame that he won't be in the MCU.
What if we get flashbacks
There’s a lack of father figures in the mcu, we got thanos, tony and Odin and that’s it...
I'm so thankful they're really diving into the character building and what happens in a post blip world. Love it! Roll on episode 2!
Absolutely amazing episode.
Isn't there a Spider-Man 2 loan application scene as well? I remember they are in the bank talking to Joel McHale about something in that movie.
Flag Smashers? No more flags? Red Skull: "I have seen the future, Captain. There are no flags."
Damn even supheroes are getting into therapy,i should really go too into therapy...
That first action sequence I kept thinking... I can't friggin' believe this is just a tv show! lol. So cool.
Has there ever before been a scene of a superhero applying for a loan and having to explain his financial setup? And we see more about what the Snap/Blip did to the world. These shows are so perfect for giving us details about these characters, their lives, and their world that the movies just don't have the time or space to get into
Great job fellas, loved it! We filmed our reaction last night, Disney killing us on the copyright, disputed about 10 hours ago and still no luck
