    I agree. I bought this and its great! Digitech nails the boss ce-2 chorus aka 80s chorus very well. I've also been switching between preset mode and stompbox mode which is also nice. I specifically bought this because its easy to pick up and tweak it unlike those big ones, plus Digitech sound is very good! Thanks for sharing!

    Nice. But I always wonder which scenario to use a chorus these days.. I have chorus pedal too but can’t find a good use in mix. It sounds sparkly brittle, more on 80’s tone :)

    • @LovingYourGuitar
      @LovingYourGuitar  4 года назад +1

      Hello, and thanks for watching. So. Regarding chorus. Your absolutely right. That sparkly shimmer of chorus does harken back to the 80's. For me, I used it during those years which were my touring years and it was a bedrock tone for ballads and such. Paul Jackson Jr. and Steve Lukather were my influences for this when I started doing more session work in the mid 80's. But after those years, I learned that chorus was useful in recording rock ballad rhythm parts that lay back in the mix. What chorus does for me in that scenario is to widen the image in the mix while keeping that simi chugging rock rhythm going (again, back in the mix) not competing with the center of the mix. I did tracks on 4 songs for an artist just recently that I used this technique working from my home studio and he loved it. The producer only had me make changes in particular chords used in a section or two, but overall, they likes my take on the songs. I used chorus, although sparingly, but effectively. I can't wait to hear the mastered work for the national release. Thanks for response! Cheers!

      Try the Danish chorus model... sounds a bit flatter, mono.
      And tweak the equalizer! Tedious, but instructive! 🎃

    I really enjoyed this . I have a lot of gear and I wanted something easy to use . I have been considering this model to simplify my setup . Good review . i am old school as well . I am not really interested in amp modelling .....but.........they all sound unique and it gives any setup a huge tone variety ...and dimension . Good job.. gave a full watch .

      Hello Philip. I'm glad that you enjoyed the video. I really need to do an update video now that I have a lot of gig experience with the RP360 XP. My goal was to treat to achieve more organic tones that you and I want to hear with the added touches of nice effects once I got comfortable with is. I was able to do this by using the Nexus app from the Digitech website. That's what really made this pedal rock for me. using compressor pedals and distortion pedals (in the app) sparingly or not at all, keeps you tonally tamed and not buzzing. The expression pedal built into the XP model is especially helpful for controlling volume! I'll post a gig video or two. I'm a tube amp guy but I can't always get the amp loud enough to breathe like I used to do with my old Marshall in loud venues. I'm using a MESA Nomad 55 1x12 usually or a Carvin Bel Air. Setting tones with this pedal with the app is almost perfect with these amps. I hope this wasn't TMI.

    I'm an old guy and I watched the entire video! It was great. Like the fact that you can have an endless supply of tones/effects just with one device. I'm just starting to practice on a regular basis...and I already have enough wires around just with my guitar, amp headphones, laptop, and keyboard. I can't see having several effects pedals kicking around, most of which would collect dust in my case...I play just for fun. Can I ask if the guitar is a 'real' ES-355 or a 'reproduction' model...ie an 'off-shore' model? Thanks for the review of this RP360.

      Hi John. Thanks for watching! I posted this on my "Loving Your Guitar" channel not thinking many players would watch with so many reviews posted by others. I just gave a friend of mine two of my old stomp boxes because I'm confident that the RP360 will do what I need live. I did my first live date with is a week ago and I'm very happy with it. Way better than the BOSS Multi's I've used over the years.
      Regarding that guitar. It's not a 335. It's called a Stedman Pro Nashville model. (Made in China $178.00). I brought it on Amazon. Once I got it, I tweeked the heck out of it, knowing that it would come with the usual quality issues. The finish is really nice. I was really suprised about that. I installed a heavily modded roller bridge, swapped out the electronics with Epi ES-339 guts and it sings nicely now. It still need some fine neck adjustments but I really like it. If I ever get a real 335, it will be the Larry Carlton model.

    Informative and nice playing too. Is there a reason that your guitar tone is so mega-piercing with such a huge amount of treble? (other than personal preference?) For me, that is difficult to listen to for any length of time.

    • @LovingYourGuitar
      @LovingYourGuitar  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Paul. It definitely must be personal preference. Although, at the time of the video session, I was very new at tuning and tweaking the unit. I've been able to gig with it extensively and really dial it in. The app really helped in this. It's very disappointing that Digitech no longer provides the app. This is something that has come up in discussion here with another user. I am looking into this. Stay tuned.

Although I don't yet have the device, I did download the app (Nexus V1.0.1 (Mac OS X) . 73 MB) from the digitech site today (2020-01-01) The app seems to be ready to function, with pedal icons and all. I just can't test it, and am hesitant to buy the pedal until I find out if the app works on my older, 2011 Macbook Pro. More likely that it may not work with a newer Mac OS. I do believe that what Line 6 does is on a bit higher level. I say this because i am a long-time Line 6 user in my DAW for recording. Their pedals are quite a bit more elegantly designed and the sounds are getting better and they improve their algorithms. Thanks!

    Can you switch from patch 1 to patch 2 with the footswitch? Every review they turn the knob to get to the next patch. I want to have a clean tone on button one and then a metal tone on button 2. Is that possible with this unit?

    • @SlippJigg

      You can set it to cycle through the presets with the foot switches. You can also put it in Stompboxes mode, then you can turn individual effects (distortion, tube screamer, reverb, etc) on and off. You can also add a Digitech FS3X to it, and that gives you three more foot switch buttons

    Thank you for this video! I am a noob on effects (and guitar playing) and in the process of buying one. I received Mooer GE100 but it's not working so had to be returned. Given that I felt that in terms of durability, the GE100 may be so-so, and decided to get another brand for replacement. I am looking at RP360XP and had a chance to watch your video, and somehow I had an understanding on how the device works but of course I have to read more on the technical aspects of tones adjustments. (I am getting the effects mainly for personal use and upping my songwriting.) It looks like the RP360 is sturdy enough, and offers more features than the GE100 one. Once I receive the RP360 I might go back to this video and ask some stuff if that's alright! :) Thanks, again Sir and btw, great playin!

    Great vid. I picked one up based partly on your review. Do you use it in the effects loop or in front of the amp? Do you use both channels of the amp or just the clean and rely on the fx unit for the dirt? Thanks

    • @LovingYourGuitar
      @LovingYourGuitar  4 года назад +4

      I actually started by running it directly into the front of the amp, but I realized that after a good amount of live use, I needed to switch to using the effects loop. I use a Mesa Nomad 55 live, not the Carvin amp in the video. I learned from a Steve Vai effects chain instructional video to run time based effect into the loop and use drive, wah and compressor pedals into the front. Of course that meant not using the RP360 for lead tones, but that wasn't a big problem. The RP has all those great Digitech delays, reverbs, choruses, etc. So using the RP360 for that and then switching to the "B" channel on the Boogie for solos works pretty good. So the RP360 is setup as a stomp accept that I have combinations of reverbs and delays or chorus on the buttons. I still use patches for recording direct with the RP360 that include the distorted/solo tones in use. It's great for recording! Sorry for the long winded response. I just want to be thorough in explaining how I use the RP unit.

    Hi, do you think there is an improvement by these budget (yes, they all in all don't cost so much....😊) machines comparing them to the old expensive glories as Digitech RP1000 and Line6 Live pedal boards? Thanks in advance!

    • @LovingYourGuitar
      @LovingYourGuitar  5 лет назад +1

      Honestly. As I've taken this RP360 out on several gigs, I'm realizing that the sound is only a good an your willing to tweak tones. That $1500 Line 6 rig is a beast. Too pricey for a rig no pro would ever take on tour (sort of). I think Lincoln Brewster uses some older model Line 6 pedals. Another one is the Kemper. We all bow down to that thing! but again. Too pricey for the weekend warrior. But that piece ends it for all. Studio or whatever. Regarding my RP360. I use three sounds on most dates. Clean, chorus (jangly Stratish) and mid-crunch for solos. I'm still happy with its convenience but I'm still and old tube guy that knows pretty good tone.. I can't seem to get all of that (buzz) sound out of even the mild distortion sounds. I'm working in some smaller places that I need lower volumes. At high volume gigs, its not a problem at all. I'm not done experimenting yet though. I'll need to post some sound clips and vids. I'm also looking at the next gear test. I may borrow a BOSS Katana to try out and review. I wouldn't go less than the 100W version because of the available foot switch and the power output switching available on both 50 and 100W versions. Thanks for the question!

      You can download patches off the internet, you can also.make your own. Beat way to do this is with the Nexus software from Digitech's web site.
      Nexus gives you a virtual pedalboard. You can dial your tone in to your liking, then upload it to the pedal.

    i think this unit is a great value for all the features it includes (amp/cab sim, looper/rythm box, No. of effects in the chain [10], PC editing interface) but the main issue with this unit is Ze sOuND quality - these algorithms sounds way too much tiny with harsh high range frequencies -- I think Digitech should do something to improve the quality of its algorithm coz they are kind of outdated -- this unit is actually a great deal 4

    • @LovingYourGuitar
      @LovingYourGuitar  7 лет назад +1

      Steve. I agree with you regarding the tonal short comings. I do have to compensate for that as well. Especially with going direct to my digital I/O when recording. That issue has dogged many, if not all of the multi pedals I've used, like the various BOSS units. For me, it's about being practical cost wise and also setup time for live or studio. I will ad that all of my friends that are touring musicians refuse to use any multi-effects pedals! But they do have tour budgets and have no problem with cost. I did that when I toured in the 80's, but of course we had no multi-effects gadgets like this back then. Bottom line. It will always be a work in progress. I did a jazz/blues gig recently with it and it performed great. Even the horn players complimented on the tone. Fooled'em! LOL!! Thanks for the comment!

    Hello! how is it if I wann switch between e.g. preset 3 to preset 9, did I have a way through 6 presets until I am at preset 9 or can I do it in a faster way?

    • @LovingYourGuitar
      @LovingYourGuitar  7 лет назад +1

      Great question. There is a three button extension pedal option that Digitech makes for bouncing through the multiple groupings of three presets. There's a MODE button and two buttons for UP/DOWN function, which means that you pretty much navigate through the groupings linearly. Maybe not the best way of seeking presets but others like it. At this point, I only use two preset groups close to each other . One for basic Clean/Chorus/Solo. The other is for my acoustic guitar presets. I don't yet need the extension pedal. Other reviewers like this extra pedal. Here's the link to the FS3X 3 button pedal: digitech.com/en-US/products/fs3x-3-button-footswitch. If you get one, write back and tell us what you think of it. Thanks!

      Loving Your Guitar thank you for your detailed reply! I found that pedal already...if I’m going to buy the rp then with that pedal in addition!! But I am not clearly sure about it! You like the rp?

    • @LovingYourGuitar
      @LovingYourGuitar  7 лет назад

      Honestly. This pedal is great when you want to use it on a pedal board with other stomp boxes like some reviewers do, but with the reduced footprint of the RP360 means fewer preset buttons. The using their added pedal for navigation is not the easiest way to get to more that three presets but that's the trade-off. As mentioned in the video, I use 3 basic presets for the majority of gigs. When I need something outside of by basic 3, I create another group of three and set it prior to the particular song. It's in the studio that I really get to used it's variety. Going stereo direct into my Line6 KB37 sounds amazing! Of course, if the limitation only having three preset buttons on the base unit won't work for you, their other pedals with more than three are still great sounding units. I hope this helps. Write back and let me know what you decide.
      Thanks and take care,
      PB

    Old school, watched to the end.
    Just picked up one used.
    And kids if you shop around, an XP can
    be had for under $150 U.S. $350+cdn. Lol
    Anyway I’m trying different setups out and wondered about your amp settings.
    Dale Harper ruclips.net/video/2ShBheXucVU/видео.html
    Suggested to run the amp tones all at 12o’clock.
    I’m not familiar with Carvin amps. What I saw was some other than 12 noon. Are these preferred settings? Does it sound better because of the voicing of the amp itself?
    Since this is a works in progress, have they changed over the course of the last year?
    Currently running mine through a
    BlackStar ID 40W stereo, so none of the tone controls are an issue now, but looking at a Peavey Bandit to run right straight into the clean channel and am looking for any suggestions to get me started.
    Any would be so grand, and thanks in advance.

      Hi Dave. Thanks for subscribing. I must confess. I purchased my RP360XP on EBay from a kid that couldn't figure out how the tuner is activated, so it was basically an open box purchase. Of course, there wasn't a thing wrong with it. I got it for $99.00. Regarding the amp settings I used in the video. The treble on my Carvin 50W Bel Air was turned down the about 2 or 3 but the bass and mid was at 12 o'clock, but it might vary base on the venue. As you saw in my demo, I'm more into a basic working setup. None of the crazy sounds are ever used in any gigs I do. I also use the RP360 with a 15W solid state Muzak power amp conversion I made that is a kick to use. It's louder than heck and using a single 12" KK Audio cabinet, it's done a few smaller gigs quite well. So I have good results wit solid state and tube amps. In actuallity, the Carvin sees very few gigs. I have a Mesa Boogie Nomad 55. Not the most beloved Mesa amp by many but you just have to know how to use them. It's my 2nd Boogie. The first was an original Mk IIC+. This was too heavy for it's size and too loud. I grew up in the 80's gigging rock with a Marshall 100 half stack in larger venues. Not may effects. Rhythm and lead was done by my volume knob. So having a wide amp pallet of experience, I approach multi effects in a practical way. You mentioned the BlackStar ID 40W. Be careful with driving the front end of a DSP type amps with pedals. Not as forgiving. I really love BlackStar amps. I played the BS ht 40 Club amp. Sweet little amp and I would own one if I needed another amp. That amp would take the RP360 or any other pedals very well. I hope I haven't done a TMI to you , but I hope I helped give you some ideas and options. It's time for a follow up RP360XP video after having done several gigs with it. Coming soon! Thanks again!

      Thanks Phil.
      I am looking for as much info as I can get on the care and feeding of this. Any and all suggestions are most definitely weighed.
      I am so hearing you on the weight of tube amps. Whew.
      I have an ancient Peavey Duece that must weigh upwards to 60+lbs. and being almost the same age as the weigh in, I’m looking for options there too.
      Looking forward to your update.
      And thanks again.

    At the end playing sounded great. All the presets were to much treble to much delay+ reverb. Will undesided. I keep using my 2101 DigiTech writing Christian stuff
    God bless tom Tracy

      Hi Janice,
      Your right. I was definitely still learning the box. I have since gone through several reconfiguration as I am now using the RP360 on a pedal board with other effects pedals. I had to go through a trial by gig fire to come to a realization. I couldn't get completely away from using additional effects pedals. What I mean is using a higher end drive pedal and a Morley wah. I've run the RP through my Boogie's effects loop and run everything else into the input. I took that advice from a Vai effects board setup video. Great advice. Now I need to do a follow up video. Thanks for writing. Stay tuned for the update. I'll also be sharing my home made effects snake as well. Saved a ton of money on that!
