I just lost respect for Lobo. Must have pained ESPN to mention Reese was excited for the targeting of CC.
Swoop was great, nobody cared. Lobo was great, nobody cared. Parker was great, nobody cared. Dana T. is a beast and has been for years, and NOBODY cared. There have been so many great players in the WNBA, and nobody cared. Clark has brought eyes to the WNBA. These women are petty and better wake up; quickly now.

The real problem the fans see is the officiating, which calls every touch CC makes as a foul, and then the opposition mobs her continually with few fouls called. Then standing directly in front of a ref, a flagrant foul was committed, and it took internet outrage to get the proper call. We are not blind, we can see what is going on in this league. The refs wanna make sure that CC doesn't make too big a splash and somehow discredit veteran players so they think they will put their thumbs on the scale to make sure that doesn't happen.
That is spot on. They call CC for breathing hard. Meanwhile, she is getting grabbed and bumped on nearly every possession and then getting absolutely hammered and the refs don't see it. It's the WWE. The refs are afraid of the race card so they compensate and ruin the game. Actually, this has always been a problem with basketball. It's why the best White players come out of Europe even though basketball is bigger in the US.
Why is it so hard for the women that cover the wnba to admit that there is jealousy and pettiness at play?
Because it destroys the liberal view that the so called marginalized can never be bullies or abuse power. The reality is they do not want to face the fact that these players would rather have a fringe league that one that is celebrated because a white straight girl is great. It is just trash. By the way, Caitlin didn't just throw an elbow -- she threw because it because Carter was pushing and hooking Clark's arm from behind (which by the way is a foul that wasn't called) and Clark elbowed Carter in an attempt to get her off her and get her arm free -- a move that happens all the time in a "physical league" when the other player is out of line. If you don't want to get elbowed don't illegally hook the other player's arm and push them from behind.

I have lost all respect for Rebecca Lobo: 1. The official saw it clear as day -- he was looking right at Clark counting -- why is Rebecca Lobo lying and protecting the ref? 2. During the broadcast Rebecca Lobo was completely silent about it being upgraded to Flagrant one (Ryan Ruocco said he was a little surprised it wasn't reviewed and upgraded) and now she is saying it was obviously a flagrant one foul only after the league upgraded it (should have a flagrant two). If it was so obvious a flagrant one why did she remain silent? Isn't that her job as the color analyst and way more so than the play by play announcer?

Nothing excessive or dirty until this incident? Hmmmmm. As a new fan from the CC effect, all I can say is that I’ve been generally disappointed at the level of “physicality” and negativity. And, the general take from commentators is that this is the WNBA. I’ve also started watching professional soccer and the level of positivity is off the charts. I don’t buy the argument that nastiness is a necessary component of competitiveness. Think I’ll stick with college bb and women’s professional soccer.

If that ref didn't see it, what was he looking at? It wasn't that he had much else to do. The ball was out of bounds, Clark and Carter were right in front of him, and he didn't see it. Perhaps he should not see his next three or four games. The league had better do something because Clark is obviously their meal ticket out of sports disinterest. That is impossible. He was standing there. You correctly refer to it 3:07 as an unprecedented & dirty foul. With the ball not in play, it called for ejection from the game.

Also, Clark has a reputation that if you get physical with her that's the way to knock her off her game. Not so with Brink, Martin, and Reese. Once Clark gets stronger it'll be harder to knock her off her spots and her game. NBA officiating does need to get better overall but I guarantee you every team's #1 strategy against Clark will continue to be physical with her because it works.

Rebecca Lobo is actually going to sit there with a straight face & say she doesn't believe the referee saw the foul despite it happening right in front of him? He was looking right at them, standing 5 ft away & Carter yell Yo B&*$h before she hit her. Either this referee is the worst, most incompetent referee to ever officiate any basketball game or maybe, like many other WNBA referees, he is just unwilling to call hard fouls & flagrants committed on Caitlin Clark & just turns a blind eye to the ever increasing aggressive coverage CC is facing. The Fever have been submitting video after every game to show the commission the large number of hard fouls not being called by referees & the WNBA has also turned a blind eye & refuses to do anything.
Nobody thinks CC should get special treatment or special rules. People just want the WNBA to enforce the existing rules & the referees to actually do their job and call the hard fouls players are making. If the refs were actually doing their job, Fever opponents would rack up fouls & give up FT points. That is the normal consequence for a team who chooses to enact the "Jordan rules" on a player. It is statistically impossible for every team in the WNBA to run the most aggressive defense against CC that anyone has ever seen & commit so few fouls in the process. Referees actually doing their job & calling those hard fouls acts as a deterrent to ensure defender do not become too aggressive and/or cause an injury. But when I see the level of indifference shown by the referee in this instance, I do worry it won't stop until CC is seriously injured.

That foul deserved a flagrant 1 at the bare minimum. But let's be real, Candace Parker got the same treatment. Ionescu got hammered and elbowed her entire rookie season. Angel Reese got folded mid air like a lawn chair a few games ago. Aaliyah Boston got hit a couple times last season. Skylar Diggins was getting hip checked on screens and fouled hard on drives her rookie year. Taurasi shouldered Muhl to the ground this season despite them both being UConn alumn.

Rebecca is right about one thing: the attention given to Caitlin Clark is unprecedented in the WNBA. When you have a player as good as she is, she will naturally garner more attention from the opposing team.
That being said, there is absolutely jealousy and pettiness at play here. You don't hard check someone away from the ball if her ability hasn't gotten into your head to some degree. But this pettiness and jealousy isn't restricted to the players on the court. Monica McNutt basically outed herself when she brought up the lack of coverage of the WNBA.
