the "pilwa", which is that woven bag the woman was showing at the beginning (at 2:23) are making a comeback in Chile. It is a very old tradition in the south, my grandma taught me how to make them, it is quite a lengthy process from the recollection of the material, drying it and then weaving it, and they used to be very very inexpensive... people who made them used to exchange them for a couple of kilos of flour or some eggs, whatever they could get. Now people actually appreciate them and with a fair reason! they are gorgeous and they last literally forever! I have one that belonged to my mom, it has around 20 years and still looks like new! they also can take a loooot of weight, they really are THE best reusable bag you could own. You really should have bought one!
I love this. 💖 I am from New Zealand. We call them Kete, made from flax. Pronunciation: It's like slowly pronouncing the French equivalent to 'The' - 'Le', twice, except replacing the L with a K and then a T. LeLe - KeTe. Not sure if that makes sense. 😕 Aaanyway, beautiful to hear the different stories. Agreed, super strong. We make bagpack versions, hat versions, jewellery box versions etc Our ancestors even used to use kete for boiling food in too, in the natural hot springs. The flax itself has soo many different proeprties/uses. Bags, mats, jewellery, sewing thread, decoration on tools and weapons... the list goes on. In your clip, you mentioned you 'feel like you should teach yourself' to weave... You totally should. That would be amazing to see! There are literally so many cultures out there who have their own version of exactly this, and you'd be teaching yourself one which could translate into MOST.. 🤗🥰
Wow, that's great info. We should all be going back to these sorts of natural materials, they are environmentally friendly, sustainable, durable, and they provide income to the craftspeople who make them. Oh yes and they're beautiful!
Hey Guys!!! I hope you enjoy my bonus Flea Market shopping video :) Part 2 will be live this Sunday @ 10am where I turn the 2 pieces that I found into some beautiful pieces of home decor!! I'll be chatting with you guys in the comments today so leave me a comment below!!
yey! as a chilean, to see you put the lady talking about our country and culture make me so happy. Chiloé is a well known island for its style and culture. Love it! it would be awesome if after the pandemic its over you could come and visit :)
I love the way you can look at something most of would find weird but useless and Yuen is into something creative and beautiful. It certainly will change I look at things from thrift stores and flea markets from now on.
I am amazed at how much restraint you have when at a flea market, especially since that one had so much great stuff! Your thrift shops are also packed with such good finds. Living out in the 'boonies' we just don't get much of a selection, harder to find hidden treasures. Also wanted to mention that you gotta bargain with those venders. Since many expect people will haggle over their prices they tend to ask for more expecting that they will be bargained down. It does get tiresome having to fight over their prices, but if you really like something fight for a better price. Also, one disadvantage of going so early in the morning is that they aren't ready to let things go for much less. Best selection though.
I'm from Chile, huge fan of your channel and got so happy when I heard that woman, all the process of making those baskets and talking about mapuches :)
You hv a vision when you thrift things otherwise many of such things would go unnoticed by any common people .I love the way you do things I get motivation along with so many new ideas .
Love watching these videos since the offerings are so different than what you find at flea markets in my area of the country (midwest). That couch at the 5 minute mark was great - keep in mind that you can change the legs on furniture fairly easily if you run into something you love in the future!
The Rose Bowl Flea Market looks so well put together, it looks like there's always a high quality selection of things but at the same time those prices...
I saw this and I nearly flipped myself! A new, bonus, EARLY MaCenna video??? Yes!! I also got excited when you said there will be a thrift flip on Sunday PLUS a new room makeover coming up??!!!! This just made my meh day a good one. I love the little wall art thing. It's so unique, pretty, and geometrical.
Hi MaCenna, love watching you go shopping as well as DIY's... keep them coming. At 6:28 a Colorado license plate was on the ground and I smiled!! I miss California but love my mountains of Colorado I live in so much love from the Colorado Mountains!! 💜
Hi MaCenna! I love this type of flea market/shopping walkthrough videos!!!💜💜💜 Please do more of these!!! I've never been to a flea market.... you opened my eyes to a whole new world---why spend money on mass produced stuff??? Local artists who spend hours and hours of their time and energy--people who pour their heart and soul on a single project to express themselves through their own spiritual creativity and uniqueness--are much much more worth supporting.💜 as always, I'm so inspired by what you do! Thank you for sharing your craft with us...🦋
I just saw this cool yarn tiered design that looks like it could be a pendant but is meant to just hang from the ceiling and look pretty, that could be cool to do w the wire circle
Tanya Karazan so agree. But inguess the part of the country where you live it is determined by well......by where you live. I live in the Midwest/Detroit/Toledo Ohio area so prices here are cheap but the finds are amazing. Especially the old stained glass windows and true lamp shades made of stained glass. I just love finding those pieces. And I've never found any for more than 40 bucks. I bet in Cali that price for the pieces I have found would be well over 150-200 bucks. Crazy.
I’ve seen your video already of the metal piece you used with yarn and looking at this one your suggestion of the chandelier makes me think of those beaded looking looped ones. You could even get some of the beads from the flea market. Loved those, the baskets and rugs.
That’s what I miss about living there, loved a visit to the rose bowl, when we moved to Scotland I brought all my stuff back with me in a shipping container.
Ok but this is too funny. I went to this flea market and you actually got me in camera at 7:20. What are the chances? lol I hardly had any luck. Ended up just leaving with a few (beautiful) plants. Hopefully you can find yours soon! Glad you found a few DIY pieces, and I'm excited to see how they turned out!
Just recently discovered your channel, love the flip of the rug, that Turmeric made such a great color. Just shot my first Flea Market vlog this past weekend, and have really been enjoying watching your treasure hunting!
I love the dupe you did beside your fireplace and you really have a thing for pendant lights. I do too, lol! I found a Kodak slide carousel after seeing your video and I plan to make a pendant light out of it. I also collect vintage enamel colanders to make pendant lights out of. I love flea market videos especially when the host is interesting. Flea markets make my heart beat fast. I used to love when Rachel Ashwell (coined Shabby Chic and has a line) would go to the Flea looking for furniture, and fabrics and lamps. I went to a great one Jersey, got my first deep fried twinkie.
I love these videos! We don’t have anything similar in Ohio so it’s so fun to “shop” with you and see all kinds of neat stuff. I like hearing your ideas because it helps me keep more of an open mind when I shop!
You should make a pet teepee! They’re so easy to make. All you need is wooden broom sticks, string/rope and a piece of material. My guinea pigs love theirs 😁

Mercy me....the "speg ball" was so odd BUT those animals with the HUGE bug eyes totally FREAKED me out!! LOL! Now I know what those tree tables are actually called!!! COOL Beans! Thanks for that! Can't wait to see what you do with the rug and the wall art piece....
I love these trips you make to the RB. Personally, I would want so much 🙋♀️ You practice A LOT of Restraint and Discipline! Great idea to visit different countries and make some type of documentary of locals creating their products. I lived in the Caribbean for 3 yrs and the process of their traditional items they made are fascinating! Even here in Charleston the making of sweetgrass baskets is overwhelming! Great Video - LoveZ It All 🤗💕
Would love to see you work with Tasha Leelyn! Just watching the first few clips of the rose bowl makes me feel like she would adore it! I’d love to see what you could make for her space 👏🏼🥰
That "fence" that you wanted to do wall art with looks alot like the bottom of an older style baby crib bottom. I had one from my son's crib and turned it into wall art! repurposing at it's best. I would love to share a picture of it with you!
do you know why those rugs are so high? especially for older ones, the yarns and hand twisted from fibers, then hand dyed and then hand woven. add to the fact that they have lived for decades in high end homes, usually well cared for, they are worth more. also, some vendors are selling junk/garage sale stuff, while others are junkers/antiquers/handmade artisans and this is their job. they have to locate the items, clean/refurbish them, store them, haul them, pay employment taxes on their profits, overhead on any other costs (vehicles/gas/insurance) to go find these items. take them out on a saturday morning that may or may not be nice, possibly several hours from home = to make a profit. so while some items may be unreasonably priced (yep, some is) other items, who else is going to go search for those rugs to bring to one place to sell? some may be willing to negotiate, some may not. do we go to target/walmart/macy's/the grocery store and think "this is too much money. i'm not paying that" and try to negotiate down? no. we pay the price on the shelf. i'm a handmade artisan and i run into this issue frequently. my time is worth something too. just thought i'd give some perspective. not saying you are wrong to think items are priced too high. most of that is out of my price range too.
So I was actually on my way there from Orange County this past Sunday and it was a little bit past 930 and it started to downpour and I could barely see. I got as far as Anaheim and decided to turn around. Since Pasadena got a flood warning on Sunday I’m glad I decided to wait until March.
I was thinking of some sort of macrame or weaving type project on the metal piece you found. I'm eager to see what you do with it! I love going to the flea market, my husband would be bored to death. I'm just going to have to find some friends or neighbors to go with me.

Haha no at all!! I actually have gotten requests for a makeover tutorial and I filmed it this week in fact. I’ll be uploading it to me IGTV on Instagram really soon 🥰
OMG prices are craziness....I won't be making the trip up anytime soon for those prices! Come to Kobe's in SD...I swear you will NOT be disappointed...those rugs would've been $3 MAX!!!!! Seriously, I am OFFENDED by those prices LOL!
OMGosh the money toilet seat!!! Our family has one. It's a long story so sorry but my parents bought a bank when I was 10 and that same exact looking toilet seat was in the employee's bathroom by the drive through window. Well they eventually renovated the bank but my mom didn't want to part with the toilet seat (I mean, it IS real coins in there) so she brought it to our family cabin and now it's in the bathroom there. It's probably like 40 years old. Hahaha
There is a place not too far from my house that sells handmade items from all over the world. The owners travel during the year and purchase the products to sell in their store. The store opens up once a year in the fall for 6 straight weekends. The products are beautiful, albeit a tad expensive. So many talented people all over the world making beautiful handmade products.
I love your rose bowl videos. Like even just the parts of you looking for stuff. Makes me wish we had something like that where I lived.

That noodle lamp freaked me out too!! 😂😂
Hahaha right!!
It's actually called a spaghetti lamp; very popular in the 60's/70's and sought out by many.
Lyon Still still freaky tho
I would love to see videos on different nationalities and products they produce whether you travel to the destination or not.
OH you could make an awesome dream catcher with that metal frame you bought.....
OML I was going to go that day hah. but the weather was too bad for me love to see that they still had great things there! 💜
It POURED like 15 min after we left too 🌧🌧

If you like those tiny trees, look out for buddah belly figs (what those trees were I think) and caudex!
Oooo thanks for the tip 🥰
OMG prices are craziness....I won't be making the trip up anytime soon for those prices! Come to Kobe's in SD...I swear you will NOT be disappointed...those rugs would've been $3 MAX!!!!! Seriously, I am OFFENDED by those prices LOL!
Taylor You haven’t been to Kobe’s in San Diego! EXTREME pricing! 😂
Hahaha
Random Object: PENDENT LIGHT :D:D Love it MaCenna :D
Hahaha you know me so well! 🥰
I like how your voice changes when you ask for a price. Like at 4:26 sounded like a totally different person. Lol 💜
I love this kind of videos I’m so happy it’s gonna have more parts 💖💖
Yay 🥰
XO, MaCenna Thank you so much for commenting back 😭💖💖
There is a place not too far from my house that sells handmade items from all over the world. The owners travel during the year and purchase the products to sell in their store. The store opens up once a year in the fall for 6 straight weekends. The products are beautiful, albeit a tad expensive. So many talented people all over the world making beautiful handmade products.
