My grandma just wanted Mario for her 3DS. I try to tell her about stuff like Pokemon and Kirby but none of them sounded like Mario to her. There's casual and then there's my family.
Stereotypical comment of “I thought this channel would have more views/subs” Fucking loved this video dude, the RUclips algorithm has fed me another banger
I think my first gaming experience was an emulator of the first super Mario bros, i sucked (i still suck) but he was very proud every time I got to the pipe. Later on, he Downloaded an emulator of super Mario bros 3 (the one with the rackoon) which we still have in the old computer. Also, boomer
Only time I got a non gamer to enjoy a video game was when my Dad played Crash Twinsanity. Other than the fire music and bouncing and spinning on literal aboriginals, he liked the simple(ish) gameplay and awesome jokes that went way over my head as a kid.
Actually, his name is doom guy, and doom is a game (who was also one of the first ever 3D games). In doom you play as Doom guy, and all the game is running around shooting demons, but its a good game. (Btw: some people managed to run the original doom on calculators)
Mostly agree with the message but -Casual games can't have depth? (MK DS/Wii, AC pre-NH, etc.) -You can't just find a 'career'/hobby in casual games and must 'progress' to harder games ("Halo 3 legendary") despite saying not every game must be Dark Souls? -What do you even define as casual? It seems mostly nebulous as 'games that self-described non-gamers often play' but again, does that necessarily strip depth, difficulty and meaning from these games? Personally, I would describe someone who plays every yearly FIFA a bit and self-identifies as a 'gamer' to actually be a casual since they aren't exploring anything of what makes gaming truly special (often playing as a fan of the sport, not gaming, i.e. franchises, software, hardware, history/legacy/retro games, developers/publishers, homebrew/CFW/emulation, the medium/art of interactivity, etc.), while someone who speedruns Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort regularly but isn't really playing many games these days and therefore doesn't self-identify as a gamer to not be a casual, despite that nebulous status of 'casual game'.
This is why Mario is the face of gaming. His games act like a gateway to other genres as well as have games anyone could get into.
This is why as 34 year old adult I play only nintendo and indiegames these days that are quick to get in and not a slog to play through.
That proper pronunciation of Mohamed Ali came out of no where holy shit; where are you from?
If it wasn't for casual games we wouldn't have so many videos of people obliterating their TVs or each other with a Wii remote, thanks Nintendo!
super underrated channel, a true diamond in the rough
