- This is a survey course designed to further stimulate your curiosity by providing glimpses of some of the pivotal events in the spread Christianity and sketches of great Christian figures who have significantly affected Christian history thereby shaping the history of the world. Kit includes six half-hour programs, leader's guide, program scripts, and reproducible student workbook.
PART I: The Early Church -- From the executions of Peter and Paul in Rome to the death of Augustine in North Africa, we follow the Early Church as she emerges from the womb of Judaism to survive horrendous persecution and become established in the Roman world. Explore what took place at the early Ecumenical Councils and how the great doctrines of the Church were formulated.
PART II: The Church in the Middle Ages -- During this period in history, universities, monasteries, and museums were established. The Church, with her majestic Cathedrals, joined these institutions in influencing society. But this interaction with culture was not without difficulties: barbarian invasion, crusades, the Muslim challenge. Also, during this period, Christendom was divided into the Eastern Church and the Western Church.
PART III: The Reformation -- It was an age of exploration and discovery, of art and literature. The Medieval Church, however, had placed too much emphasis on the church as an institution. As a result, the papacy enjoyed unusual power often coupled with unusual corruption. Cries of reform were heard all over Europe. The Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century was a tremendous movement of spiritual and ecclesial renewal.
PART IV: The Age of Reason and Piety -- During the two centuries between the death of Martin Luther in 1546 and the conversion of John Wesley in 1738, the Christian world experienced a major paradigm shift from an "age of faith" to an "age of reason." On the heels of Copernicus' discovery that the earth is not the center of the universe, rose "the Enlightenment" -- a movement that shifted the focus away from God and to human creativity.
PART V: Christianity in the New World -- America was the land of new beginnings. Europe represented for Americans a corrupt past, whose contamination they wished to escape. This period includes the study of great traditions such as the Puritans and Quakers, and great movements such as the First Great Awakening.
PART VI: Christian Movement in an Age of Uncertainty -- From the fall of Bastille in 1789 (marking the beginning of the French Revolution) to the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 (marking the end of communism), study the Christian movement in an age of uncertainty. William Carey, the "father of modern missions" carries the Gospel to India; others followed to remote regions -- people like David Livingstone, Lottie Moon, Henry Martyn, and Hudson Taylor. Explore the Christian Church as it moves into all the world.

I have been a Christian more than 50 years and recently began to think about the beginning of Christianity instead of just believing that the founding of my denomination was as deep as I needed to go. I never really thought about Christianity between the church in Acts to the 21st century. I am so thankful for this information that has put such a hunger for more in me. Amen, I love this and needed this now more than ever. I love the truth and facts about Christianity. There so much going in today's churches they don't just go with straight facts or teachings of the bible. They are going with what is popular. I have been looking or old fashion fundamental Christian believing church like I grew up in as a child. Oklahoma City for a year now and haven't found one yet that just preaches and teaches word for word what the bible says. I won't give up. I was feeling surrounded with evil all day and started to look for classic Christian films to watch and this came up in suggestions. Thank you Christ for leading me to this program I feel wonderful now loved and stronger in my faith. Thank you keep the faith Christians we are in dark times.

It must have been something to be a part of the early Church where they had tongues with interpretation and prophecy when they met, and offerings were collected by leadership, and also brought by leadership from other churches. What unity and comfort in the faith they must have had together as the met in their homes where they often broke bread together. I imagine all were involved in some way, much different than most Christianity today.
A lot went on in the Church before 410. Perhaps we have much yet to recover.

For the real history, look for James A. Wylie's (1808-1890) historical work "The History of Protestantism". It gives true history of Christianity.

For them - dozens of them - one will need to back up to the book of Acts and begin at chapter 2 and conclude with chapter 22. There one will find out exactly how conversion takes place. And not a one of them includes anything akin to "Ask Jesus to save you right now and trust him, because he arose from the dead."

Wylie (1808-1890) has written three volumes of true history on Christianity and catholic role against it: "The history of Protestantism". He also wrote "The Papacy" and "The Waldenses". All are found online.

God knows every individuals mindset. Not everyone knows how to deal with wealth. Many accounts are given of individuals who became millionaires through winning the lottery. Their condition got worst as they used up the millions in selfish gratification.
God expects the rich to care for the poor. Not that they should indulge them, but help them to help themselves.
Churches do not teach this. Especially the church organization of these videos. They have trillions, but keep asking donations for charity.
A greater reason God destroyed Sodom, Nineveh and even sent Israel into captivity for 70 years, is because of their horrendous treatment of the poor.

We Cannot be saved with any faith on water baptism or any works:

(Faith on Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, not water baptism, must be the way of receiving salvation. Water baptism was for people offered salvation by the Gospel (good news) of the Kingdom, where a work, water baptism, was required demonstrating faith.
Having Faith on works or any human effort for salvation will mean NO salvation.
Galatians 5:4 (KJV), “Christ is become of NO EFFECT unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law (works); ye are fallen (separated) from grace (not saved).
Galatians 3:10 (KJV), “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.”

This was such a blessing. It was explained better than what I had during my degree studies.
I would like to hear more about what the reformers were 'protesting' against as Protestant Reformers and the Inquisition too. I think it's important for Christians to know. Also interested in what the very old Ethiopian Church developed, its links to the Ethiopian Eunuch and the Judiasm that was already in existence there, the Jewish influence on Christianity and the role that people with origins outside the West are playing in churches today.
P.S., I just realised that this history is focussed on America, but it would still be great to know about the Jewish influence and the contributions of Americans from other people groups.

This is very deep historical narrative. In this world we live in, where there is an increasing desire for knowledge and understanding about the things of God and all the other elements that surround God, the historical, the spiritual. it's good to see this kind of knowledge shared. I am NOT a pastor nor a priest or anything ordained. But just an ordinary person trying to understand God and His ways at an ordinary level. I recently chose to take up the part of narrating the bible with video imagery starting from the book Genesis so that it could reach those who, like me, would like to know God's ways in the simplest of ways. They have brought great revelation to me. It's a work in progress but I hope they will be a blessing to whoever is reading this message. Stay blessed!

I do not know his denomination, but his facts on history are accurate starting from year 1. He also has a book solely on the papacy, "The Papacy"'. All these can be found online.
