Luther? Inspiring? Let's examine a few things Luther said: "If you sin, sin boldly, but believe more boldly still." "If anyone should still believe in the stupid ten commandments let him chase himself to the Jews" "If the wife won't let the maid come." "A believer can commit a thousand murders and a thousand adulteries a day and still go to Heaven, so long as he believes." "Of course it the woman caught in adultery was committing adultery with Our Lord. Otherwise why would he have forgiven her." Inspiring? Let us get our inspiration from Christ and leave the evil Martin Luther alone.
@EUCHARISTforLIFE Amen Pure religious bigotry & lies. You should be ashamed to write that here. PRAISE THE LORD for breaking the stronghold of Satanic Romes horrid distortion of true Biblical Faith of Christ. @@GeorgePenton-np9rh Human can err, everybody have mistakes inside their own mindset and thought. But still, no human is 100% evil. If you disagree with someone who sees Luther as an inspiring man, then leave it like that. :(
It also shows how you can NOT say you're too little for God to use, for Luther was a relatively small and allegedly insignificant German Augustinian monk God used to destroy the darkness as he can do with you. Soli Deo gloria!
Hello! It's Sumit from Nepal. I'm really grateful for the documentary because it has been a blessing for me. I expect that many other Nepalese Christians would watch this video and be revived greatly for the reformation in the Churches in Nepal.

I have never seen a more accurate title. This is truly a summary of The Life and Legacy of Martin Luther! Thank you Ligonier for producing this magnificent work.
Beautifully presented and edifying film. Thank you! If a Christian wants to honor fellow believers of yore then do so by getting acquainted with these Great Reformers. Not those now who presented you a works and gifts centred religion by vain protestants - charismaniacs - who forget their roots and what these Reformers had done.
Thank you for this video, my faith in the Lord restores again. It is not by chance or accident that I watch this, but it is God's purpose. I pray that God also restores and bless whoever watches this video.
Christianity is not a religion, its a relation, its the way. Way paved by Christ. Religion for us the people of the way according to the book of James (jacob) is to take care of widows and orphans in distress.
Many, many thanks for Ligonier’s RUclips ministry, this documentary and also for the free study guide. As for God, if he had not sent him, we would still be sitting in Catholic darkness and being sold false salvation! But that's not all, because God wants to bring His own back to the first state right after Pentecost AD 33. And whoever wants to go back there to become like Christ only needs to click, then he can do that with a different kind of preaching.

@Mr. No Name The editors of Luther's Works include a footnote for this comment of Luther's, and they offer the following speculation: This entry has been cited against Luther, among others by Arnold Lunn in The Revolt Against Reason (New York: Sheed & Ward, 1951), pp. 45, 257, 258. What Luther meant might have been made clearer if John Schlaginhaufen had indicated the context of the Reformer’s remarks. The probable context is suggested in a sermon of 1536 (WA 41, 647) in which Luther asserted that Christ was reproached by the world as a glutton, a winebibber, and even an adulterer. Be careful with Luther’s Table Talk. The Table Talk is a collection of comments from Luther written down by Luther’s students and friends. It is not in actuality an official writing of Luther's and should not serve as the basis for interpreting his theology.

I became a Protestant Christian when I was only five years old. My mother used to sent my sisters and I to the Catholic Church up the road in our community, and then the first Evangelical Missionaries came to our country and to our English speaking community. The following Sunday, she sent us to the New Missionaries Church of God. I was impressed by their teachings about Jesus Christ. I noticed that there was a big difference between the Catholic mass and this new Church. I am now 58 years old, and I never returned to the Catholic Church. On that Sunday, My mind and my heart was reformed by the Holy Spirit of God.

Luther’s legacy can be summed up in one word...schism. So grateful to the Holy Spirit for drawing me to the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ and bringing me home to the Catholic Church.
Actually, it is the Roman church that caused the schism when it decided to elevate its own authority above that of the Word of God. When Luther defended the Gospel during the reformation, the Roman church chose to break away from the true church by persisting in false doctrine. When a protestant pastor commit adultery by sleeping with prostitutes, the congregation have every right to call that pastor to account, because the final authority in our churches is not with any specific person, but with the Bible. In the Roman church, when the clergy commit adultery by sleeping with prostitutes, the lay people have no recourse, because you've given your clergy the final authority, and mere sinners divine authority.
This was so good. Would love more documentaries like these on other figures and events of Christian history. Church History is such an important topic to reflect upon that is often neglected. And a lot of beliefs and resurrecting ideologies can be prevented and clarified if we see that history already addresses them. Great Documentary. Especially appreciated the animation art style.

@EUCHARISTforLIFE Amen Protestant does not mean a thing anymore. Sounds like the protestant copied the Catholic site. It sure is not something that lines up with other things that Luther said. I can read in the Bible: " There is no God" if I just left out the fool says in his heart. I would think a 1000 time before making your sick claim.

Agreed, the church still deals in the indulgences Luther warned about. They hide the Gospel of truth from the people. In the modern age we are gatekeeper by systems of money. This is the peddling of Gods word. I appreciate the limited release from Ligoniers but I pray that they recognize this practice as unbiblical. I just completed a timely book that was offered free online that deals with this challenge called the Dorean Principle and how God wants us to fund ministry rather than commercialize it. Amazing study I highly recommend it.
Thank you for this! I learned much of Luther here that I had not known in my studies of Church History. It greatly helped and I will be using a portion of it in my classes with youth and adults.
What a great story on his life. Very inspiring, in this day and age, to want to serve GOD in standing for the Gospel message-JESUS gave His blood for this. Thankyou. Sometimes I wonder/pray-where can I go...what can I do, or be a part of...to truly be impacting, and run my race to the finish. The one place I feel at home, content, purposeful...is in the Word of GOD. The "next step" seems to evade me.
Watched this with my kids for Reformation Day, thanks for sharing! I love the way you ended the film with a message of hope. Our modern times aren't unlike Luther's, although the issues might be different, the gospel in his time seemed to be crushed by so many lies...but we know the ending already. God's Word always prevails!
I am a Maronite Christian and moved every time I hear or read about Luther. There is something fundamentally true and pure about his teachings and works. Uncovering the abuses of the Church at the time, translating the Bible into German to make it accessible to the people, and restoring the principal role of faith as the entry point to salvation are insights that cannot be overlooked. To me, he is the undeclared saint of the Church, the conscience that needs to be kindled and rekindled in every generation and time. Thank you for this beautiful and moving video.
@@robatrhema Sure, he is far from perfect since "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. Mark 10:18". I might consider the positives of Luther's, not the antisemitic sayings. The attitude towards the Jews in Catholicism was first positively articulated only in Vatican II. Otherwise, it was a horror story (Spanish inquisition, expulsions, holocaust, etc.) with blessings from even Popes at times, directly or indirectly. "Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own? (Luke 6:41)." With some humility, we recognize we are all sinners and need God's mercy and grace. 🙏
As the names of Wyclif and Tyndale have achieved fame in connection with the history of the English Bible, so that of Luther stands out prominently in the history of the German Bible. Long before Luther's day, however, Germans had taken an interest in having Scripture in their own tongue, and vernacular translations had been laboriously copied out by hand. With the advent of printing, editions of Scripture in German, as well as in Latin, began to multiply from various presses in the German lands. By the time of Luther's birth in 1483, no fewer than nine such editions of the complete Bible in High German and two in Low German had appeared, with further ones still to come before the publication of the Reformer's "September Testament" in 1522.
the 2006 movie, "Luther" captures the real life story, and the events in this documentary but I wish it is was a longer film. Luther's character wasn't as passionate or as flawed as he should of been. I think a remake is due. Great job guys, this is was sooo good. I love Martin Luther's story, it's so amazing and wonderful. I forever will be a protestant Christian. There is a lot of conservative catholics rising up against this horrible Pope, which is good. I could never adhere to a "church" or denomination for that matter. It's all faith and trust in Christ and what he did for my salvation. THe ending of this documentary really gave me hope in these dire difficult time. Thank you.

Thomson Finny, are you in India? I lived in the state of Gujarat, India for 6 months and didn't meet a single other Christian. @Mr. No Name Prove from Scripture that Luther was not out of line 2 Samuel 12: 8 I gave your master’s house to you and your master’s WIVES [Plural] into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah, and if that was not enough, I would have given you even more. Luther was an out-and-out believer in polygamy. To say that he did not "counsel" polygamy, or that he advised that it should be kept secret as a sort of matter of "conscience," is utterly beside the facts. When Bruck, the Chancellor of the Duke of Saxe-Weimer, heard that Carlstadt in 1524 advocated polygamy he consulted Luther on the new and pernicious teaching. The Reformer, not in the least abashed, openly and distinctly stated: "I confess that I cannot forbid a person to marry several wives, for it does not contradict the Scripture. If a man wishes to marry more than one wife he should be asked whether he is satisfied in his conscience that he may do so in accordance with the word of God. In such a case the civil authority has nothing to do in the matter." (De Wette II, 459.) Many other clear statements wherein Luther sanctions polygamy might be reproduced here, but the one given above will suffice for the present.

Great film. I really like the opening music where church bells and fire is heard followed by what sounded like a bomb exploding which to me seemed to go well with the Theological impact Luther made in Church and society and the dangers associated. Just all around serious, no nonsense feel.

Both in Europe & here in USA (Texas).
Hoping you have discovered the great resources on RUclips to witness Christ contra Islam: search out Nabeel Qureshi, his testimony is compelling & taking much ground from Islam - Praise the Lord...
Luther? Otherwise why would he have forgiven her."
Inspiring? Let us get our inspiration from Christ and leave the evil Martin Luther alone.
@EUCHARISTforLIFE Amen

You should be ashamed to write that here.

Thank you for this video. It feels better to know that Martin Luther along with others had the same struggles that many of us still have today.

As all saints have their skeletons David, Luther was far from perfect. We are still seeing the effects of his extreme antisemitism.
Then you're a heretic
the 2006 movie, "Luther" captures the real life story, and the events in this documentary but I wish it is was a longer film. Thank you.
Thank you so much @ligonier ministry to share with us this. So happy to see again RC. Sproul.
Thank God for Luther ! I became a born again Christian after I read the bible.. leaving the Roman Catholic church started my relationship with Jesus

Weak Catholics becomes Protestant
But strong Protestant becomes Catholic!

Excellent video, thanks for make it available. Greetings from Costa Rica
Watching from India. thank you for making this documentary available 👍
There is a wonderful movie called "Luther" starring Joseph Fiennes as Martin Luther. Every time I watch it, Luther inspires me, in all of his humanity and his relationship with diety. Praise Jesus, the Living Word, which the most commonest of men need and will love when they realize the love God has for them through the Lord Jesus. Cindy from Michigan USA
Holy Spirit FIRE!!! im so thankful God sent him to us to set us straight.
The straight way is the RCC,
God bless you for uploading this. Reformed Youth Pastor - Thomson Finny, India.
God be with you, brother in Christ.
Thomson Finny, are you in India? I lived in the state of Gujarat, India for 6 months and didn't meet a single other Christian. After 2 and a half months I felt so isolated I had to fight back tears when I traveled North and saw the Star of David in Christmas lights from the window of the train. I would have loved to have met other Christian brothers and sisters in Christ while in India and fellowshipped with them. Big hello from a sister in Christ. 👋☺ -United States

And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. - John 3:16
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.
-Acts 3:19
If are in North America, please go check out any of the churches available to you: PCA, OPC, Rpcna/Rpc, Urcna, or a canrc church
(These are conservative and actual Presbyterian churches)
If you can’t find one of the conservative presby churches then, maybe a Lcms or Wels Lutheran church.
If you are Scottish, I recommend the Free Church of Scotland and the APC.
(Different from the Church of Scotland)
If you are English I recommend the Free Church of England.
(Different from the Church of England)
Online you can look up church finders for each of the groups and it will show you locations

Please translate it into Indonesian, so that we Christians in Indonesia know and understand this history properly and correctly 🙏🏼❤️

@Plastik Rusak This is not a kind reply bro. If you or any of your buddies cannot respond in Christian charity to a humble request from @Ezekiel, perhaps better would be to keep silent. Howgh.
@Plastik Rusak lah, apa si wong si Ezekiel minta terjemahan Indonesia buat orang yg gak bisa bahasa Inggris situ malah nyinyir, Sehat?
Thanks for your work regarding this matter. I was deeply touched and encouraged. Shalom
We praise God for his faithful servants. Thanks for this @ligonier
Thank you very much for this great documentary about a great man and an even greater God. Thankful for Ligonier and all who worked to make this film.
Good timing for this to be made available!...Currently finishing up Here I Stand by Roland Bainton.
I had Dr. Stephen Nichols as my theology professor at Lancaster Bible. He's one of the best professors I have ever had. If you ever get the chance to learn from his teaching, jump on the opportunity. If I would personally recommend one of his writing, my favorite is his book For Us and For Our Salvation.
A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and pow'r are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
I love it thank you for this documentary ❤️

What a blessing to have this type of documentary for the information and edification of the soul. May The Lord continue to bless the world and His church through the ministry of Ligonier. To Him be the glory forever. 💎
Sylvan you
This was awesome! Thank you! God shines through this story so much! Amen.
Wonderful documentary . The reformation was God's plan and He will not allow His Gospel be polluted
On the Jews & Their Lies is one of the most controversial works by Protestant reformer, Martin Luther. In one of the most notorious chapters in the book, Luther urges the German people to “raze and destroy [the Jews’] houses,"
Great film. I really like the opening music where church bells and fire is heard followed by what sounded like a bomb exploding which to me seemed to go well with the Theological impact Luther made in Church and society and the dangers associated. Just all around serious, no nonsense feel.
