Puerto Ricans unlike a lot of other Latinos are generally very proud of their African heritage. I did my ancestry and I was over 25 percent African very cool
Yes! We are one!
Blue beach in Vieques. Have a beer on the beach. Watch the wild horses.
@@GmaZZ4 Hold up? lol Wild? I aint never seen that before. In Texas somebody own em.
@@trilleats The horses are descendants from Spain. As you drive to blue beach. they roam freely. Like North or South Carolina. Water is crystal clear. Look ot up.
@@GmaZZ4 Wooowwwww! I most definitely will. Cant wait to see this.
As a Puerto Rican married to a black woman, I can say it is always pleasant to see people from my wife's background visiting my island. The only advice I can offer is to learn Spanish if you do not already speak it. While most people in the San Juan metropolitan area may know English, this is not the case in other parts of the island, such as my hometown of Ponce. I encourage you to explore our island and enjoy your stay.
For sure! I actually spoke on this in the video I posted yesterday! Appreciate the insight! As a black man, I can say, I love it here! Much love!
Yo, you gotta check out "Las Justas" this weekend! They're gonna have some sick artists and entertainment. It's from the 25th to the 27th in Mayagüez. It's like the sports competitions for the universities, and it gets lit at night. If you're going, I suggest you stay at a hotel 'cause it's like a 3-hour drive. Trust me, it's worth it!
What? Puerto Ricans can be black
Yes, we come in all colors of the rainbow. You can have one blonde with blue eyes and you can have one that is black and everything in between. This is because of our racial makeup. We have African, Spanish, and Taino Indian (a type of Indian that only lived in the Caribbean islands and parts of Venezuela) ancestry. But since the island is so small (the smallest of the Greater Antilles), we are very mixed with all three races.
This was my experience visiting there a couple of years ago. The kindest people I've ever met. They will go out of their way to help you. Something else I noticed is that they are proud but not arrogant. They're passionate and respectful. Truly awesome people. I fell in love with PR and can't wait to go back!
100% True!

Congratulations on getting out from the US as a black man🎉. Welcome to the Caribbean, it's a learning curve but I just feel happy for you brother... From your neighbour on another island 🏝️
Thank you! They say the new American dream is getting out of America lol. I'm glad I've been blessed enough to make this move!
Puerto Rico is still under American jurisdiction, but indeed congrats for him getting out the "states" as a Black American. Ive moved to St.Thomas and I got out from the states as a Black latino, I never turned back.

As a puertorriqueño, my recommendation to those who are going to visit; come with a blank slate. Try to leave your preconceived notions home. All of our heritage that is indigenous, African and Spanish have made huge contributions to who we are as a nation (yes, we think of ourselves as a nation of people.) Island people don't live in isolation from one another, so we're more open than may be customary or comfortable for continental people who are not Hispanic.
I appreciate that insight and advice! Definitely keeping my mind and heart open! Much love!
ACTUALLY PUERTO RICANS HAVE 4 HERITAGES RACE INDIAN ,SPANISH,AFRICAN,AND ARABIAN.THATs WHY A LOT OF US LOOK LIKE ARABIAN FROM JORDAN OR KUWAIT ETC....THEY DONT TEACH YOU THAT IN SCHOOL BUT WE HAVE 4 RACES IN 1 .SO WE HAVE JEWISH AND ARABIAN ANCESTRY MIX..
@@josuetorres2394 :::Arab is perhaps an oversimplification people commonly being naturals of the Levant and North Africa. The latter was peopled by waves of groups going back tens of thousands of years right to the fall of Rome and the ensuing migrations from east of modern day France and the Suebi who, according to data were a tribal group that swept into Spain from what is now Denmark. The arrival of Germanic groups pushed the former in some cases to North Africa. in some cases proper such as the Vandals and other tribes contemporary to them from post-Roman empire then migratory /escaped to North Africa.

Let me teaches you something very important to Puerto Rico's geography. Puerto Rico is an Archipielago not an island. You are standing up on the Big Island of Puerto Rico. To the eastern of the island you'll find Vieques Island and Culebra Island. This two Islands are populated as well. If you visit the western of the Big Island you'll find Mona Island, Monito Island and Desecheo Island. This three island aren't populated and are forest preserve but you can visit them with a visit authorization from the DRNA (Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales). That's what I been told about the western Islands of the Big Island of Puerto Rico. What I know for sure of those Islands, according to the tv news, is that there are always security guards on those islands. That's great because you'll feel in a safe place.
Except when the gringos start coming in and complaining about how we do things
@@Rinniantoinette You haven't seen one video of any complaints on here lol you're projecting your anger at someone else over here and it looks a little extra lol
My dad is from PR and I’ve lived there for 5 years and my experience was very much the same. Super nice people, my sweet neighbors would cook for me and offer to do my laundry, like who does that. I never witnessed any crime and yes they love to party. I’d venture to say that it’s even safer out in the country, la isla as they call it. I’ve lived both in San Juan and on the west coast where I didn’t bother locking up my house half the time.
That's good info to know! Great vibes out here!

same im puerto rican born and raised in the bronx. hoping to visit for the first time
There is crime in some low income areas but generally people are nice and friendly... Just have to use your common sense on such areas... If you go out of the San Juan Metro area people tend to be much friendlier... It is a must to say "buen provecho" when you go in or out of a restaurant..it is a Hispanic tradition..it means "enjoy"
Thank you so much for the insight! And thank you for the education! Will definitely start using in my vocabulary! Much love and hopefully you keep tuning in!
Good to see my home. Yes drinking in public is legal down there just don’t drink and drive. Have fun
For sure! I definitely will! Thanks for the support! Will be dropping content consistently about things I learn about PR. Hope you subscribe and tune in!
Drinking in public is not legal. If you get caught you can get a $600 fine. Some places like Placita Santurce have an area where drinking is allowed since traffic is cut off, similar to Fiestas de Las Calles or Las Justas, it depends on the occassion and location, but in the end, no, it is not legal to drink in public spaces. You can drink in the beach, which is public :) but not on the streets.
Cheers!
@@videosearcher22 I've been through a few block parties down here and everyone is drinking outside on the streets by the bars and the police just ride by and wave. The dont arrest anyone. Maybe its just from place to place, different rules. Idk. But the vibes are amazing out here.
@@trilleats True, block parties might be the occasional “it’s all good” vibe and cops just might not care that much (they equally party on their time off), but they can if they want to, and they will if they feel like it. In Old San Juan for sure you’ll get a ticket if and only if you get caught, but, you’ll sure get a warning first. Anyways, just be aware of the situation and your surroundings and you’ll be fine. I don’t live in the island anymore but it was nice to stumble upon your channel and to see you integrating yourself. Cheers!
@@videosearcher22 Thank you and I appreciate your well wishes! Thanks for the info as well!

‼️
2 things: Marihuana is not legal in Puerto Rico. Medical cannabis is legal. But you cant consume it on the streets and you have to be certified by a doctor to consume it. Alcohol drinking in the streets is not legal either. In the tourist Condado maybe you have seen people drinking in the streets but that is not legal. So be careful.
Appreciate that heads up! Thanks!
Who said you can't drink in the street? Of course you can drink. Weed is not legal but alcohol yes
@@AlexLopez-wp8dc I've noticed the same. They don't really trip off the weed either. But maybe it's different where they are. Who knows, but I haven't seen a cop stop anyone for any of that so far.
Drinking in the streets is totally legal in Puerto Rico in all the island id like that just not the tourist area you can drink alcohol where ever you want
@@jonamedina3708 what did you say ? Drinking in the streets is not legal anywhere in PR
Welcome brother stay here long enough you will be not Texan but Puerto Rican. Info police more laid back on other parts of the island and that is saying something. You speak ALL TRUTH brother!
Thank you for this video! Can you tell us specifically, the things that you had to do to transition there, as well as, the time it took to do it?
Will do!
Congrats on moving to PR bro.. I’m Puerto Rican and been thinking about leaving NY and moving there.. just keep in mind your in San Juan that’s extremely tourist so it’s completely a different experience than going more towards the other end of PR.. you want the tru Puerto Rico experience head towards Agusda, San sabastian etc you will see what Puerto Rico is really about.. but keep in mind Puerto Rico is EXTREMELY dangerous the murder rate and crime is through the roof.. but as long as you don’t get into things your not supposed to be doing you be fine.. just be careful going to bars in random places.. over all it’s a beautiful island I visit all the time and I’m dying to move there.. rent is Extremely cheap in Puerto Rico other than San Juan because that’s tourist capital.. you can get a 2-3 bedroom house for anywhere around $300-$600/month.. as a matter of fact I was going to move last year to this nice 3 bedroom house with back yard, drive way, car port, fenced in, two floors etc for $425/month it was in San sabastian..
Appreciate the insight! Much love!

3:01 When I was in the mountains saw a guy driving out of the gas station drinking a beer with an open window, I was a bit surprised because the U.S. at least in the state I live in they are very strict with alcohol. The drinking age in Puerto Rico is 18, you bet I was drinking some drinks over there.
Absolutely! In Texas, where I'm from ... any open container in a vehicle while driving, you're going to jail! Immediately! ... So it's definitely a culture shock down here in regards to the alcohol rules.
May see someone with open container but if they see a cop they will hide it. And some places you can drink on the street some places you can't at least not in the beer bottle or beer can usually the bar will serve in a plastic cup so it's less obvious.
@@cruzianfibergeek Appreciate the insight!
That's because up here in the rural mountain areas with the lack of cops on the island they don't really be patrolling this areas, you only really see them when they are called. When shit hits the fan we really need to fend for our selfs until the cops get here to do the paper work.

@trilleats Like with other vacation spots, there are a bunch of places you can go. If you like artesenal beer, then I recommend a trip to the Ocean Lab Brewery in Isla Verde. It's a bit expensive, but sometimes I just get the burger and fries with a couple of their IPA beers because it's affordable. If you are willing to travel to the West, there is a very popular beach spot called "Crash Boat Beach" in the city of Aguadilla. There is even an IPA beer named "Crash Boat," in honor of this beach. ⛱️ Your car GPS should get you there fairly easily. Also, in the West, there is the city of Rincon - another great beach town - with a good restaurant named "Estela."
they prideful here in the us my brotha from PR you should head to the DR
In Puerto Rico every ones drink, lol not everyone but early in the morning you can see people drinking beer in the corner of small bar or store that sells alcohol. Also the age is 18 to drink.but younger drinks too and they don’t get arrested . Very layback when it comes to draining and if you noticed at the beach you can drink as well and u don’t see people waste like in USA when they party .
Good to know! Thanks a lot!
I’m Puertorican and live in Texas. PR pride is in the same level of Texas pride. The people from PR and Texas who haven’t traveled anywhere will both tell you there is nothing better than their country or state.

The laws here apply if it bothers people. For example, No you cant drink in the streets. But since its a dumb law, you would only be stopped if its obviously wrong, like at a school or kids park. Iys about the vibe. Cops dont bother stupid laws. They are hard on traffic tho.
Great insight! Thanks!
When you visit go out into the island. Meet the people
Going soon!
YOU & CUZZO AB SHOULD COLLAB SHE JUST MOVED OUT THE ALSO
Ima look into it! Appreciate that!
I'm glad you enjoy it. It's not legal for you to walk arround with a beer but the cop will not going to arrest you right away, but yeah if you f-up they will go hard on you. Our culture are mixed with Tainos, Spanish, Africans we have a diferent perspective about races... TBH we dont care if you black, brown, asian or white it's common to see families with many colors, we dont have that kind of unhealthy mental issues about black man is slave or white people priviledge. During xmas season people get along people will invite you to feast and drink they will treat you like a family member, you should try "El chinchorreo" hope you're not muslim (lol). If you ever need something just ask and enjoy.
I appreciate the insight! Much love!
I’ve being eyeing Puerto Rico for a while to move to. My daughter will be 18 next year and I’m moving when she goes off to college. I am also from Texas. Can we connect?

Welcome to Puerto Rico, I'm glad you like it here. Just a disclamer is not legal to drink om the streets, most of the police dont care too much about it but it is ilegal so be careful.
Appreciate the heads up! Will definitely be careful! Much love!
