      In sweden bernadotte is regarded as the saviour of sweden and is often compared with Gustav vasa (The father of the nation). Its beacuse of Bernadotte that sweden have been in peace for 200 years and the royal house of sweden is stil bernadotte dynasty so thats pretty cool

      I really appreciate the fact that this has taught me so much more about Sweden's military history I definitely like. The fact that they have decided to do at least two of the swedish kings that made Sweden into a military juggernaut for at least for a while I certainly hope they can do more obscure military kings like the other two kings that fought alongside czar Peter the great I think both videos do a great job explaining the different point of views from both the swedish and the imperial Russian forces from what they viewed as they thought what was right even though the swedish were trying to defend themselves Peter was the aggressor but this conflict has been stewing for years but it boiled over where Charles even though I think he could have had a long reign but this wasn't meant to be he was killed and then the swedish empire died with him Russia however managed to rise in power all they way up until the rise of Soviets however I do find them both brilliant military commanders and they definitely have my respect they were trying to do what they thought was right

  • @theresemalmberg955
    @theresemalmberg955 4 месяца назад

    When I was growing up I was told that our family name of Malmberg came about because an unnamed King of Sweden invited a group of ironworkers from the Low Countries into Sweden to make cannon for him and they all took the surname Malmberg (Iron Hill/Mountain) as a result. Now, it seems that this story wasn't exactly true, at least not the way I was told it; for one thing Malmberg could mean "gravel hill" but on the other hand the more I learn about Swedish history I am thinking there could be some teeny, tiny grain of truth in it. Because I was not aware that Sweden had a Baltic empire in the first place! So whether my ancestors played a direct role in making it an empire or not, this is still very much my heritage and I love learning about it.

    Kalr invasion plan of russia made alot of sens at the time when you look at it in its time and not with a modern lence, Karl most likely model the invasion on the polish-Muscovite War of 1605-1618 when poland manage to take moscow. this was the first major war when russia used scorched earth tactics and Fabian strategy on a larger scale like that. Also the argument that karl was only succseful beacus of luck is so dumb if it was only luck he would have lost a battle or two in Poland, karl big mistake was not that he invaded russai it was that he did not turn his army around once he could not feed his army and choose to keep going that was his big mistake.

    His name was Karl not Charles and the name Karl (or Carl if you want) exists as a name in english too so why call him Charles? In Sweden we don´t call England´s King Charles III for Karl III.
    Just stupid...

    • @TrocaTheNero
      @TrocaTheNero 10 месяцев назад +2

      Charles and Carl/Karl are the same name (they are cognates). Generally, monarchs from before modern times (i.e. the 20th century) are called by their anglicized name, while modern ones are called by their native name. Hence, people say Charles XII but Carl XVI Gustaf. In Swedish we do this as well except with the Swedish name for older monarchs. So for the UK we say "Karl II" (Charles II) but Charles III for the current King.

      Karl and Eric will be sharing hosting duties in 2024. Eric's agreed to take the more serious and somber scripts, since Karl's not super comfortable covering super sensitive topics. Karl's an awesome host, though, so we hope you still watch his episodes. :)
