Saw your other video about portrait lenses and agree with your choices. But if I had to pick ONE lens, regardless of price or budget, it would be the 50 1.2 S. For every use including portraits, this lens is simply incredible as well as being very practical.
I’m partial to longer focal lengths for single & couples portraits. But I also have the 50 1.8, it’s the lens that made me love 50’s. Funny, I swapped my 85 1.8 for the 105 MC like you mentioned. Loved the 85 but it just wasn’t getting much use, with the 105 and 70-200 as my go-to’s. That’s me trying to consolidate lol. Not easy 😆
Have the 40, 50 f1.8 S, and 105 S macro. My two main photography interests are close-up/macro and infrared. I have the 85 1.4 D mainly for IR but has been a nice lens for me for other purposes. In my case due to all the MF lenses I have I do have the TechArt AF adapter, so I do get Eye AF with the 85D on my Z cameras.
Underrated but the Voigtlander 90mm f2.8 Skopar is a very pleasing lens. It is one of those Ais styled lenses for the F mount. Build like a Leica if you ask me.
As you know, I enjoy your channel, understand your new format, and the formula of keeping the videos limited is probably a good idea. My concern with this video (and the others you have that are similar) is that they share your opinion without examples (which I know would take significantly more prep time). A very smart photographer once said in a lecture (on Acutance and the definition of Microcontrast0 "If someone is trying to influence your opinion, without showing examples, they are just another talking head. Make them show you examples". Without naming channels, there are several fairly popular ones that are excellent about demonstrating points both with images and live - and yes - I know that probably takes people and time. Love the channel, just saying that while keeping it this short my gain a bit in the short run, perhaps a slightly deeper dive into comparing and demonstrating the reasons for your opinions would be helpful - i.e. the lens "character", the slow as molasses AF of the 85mm f/1.8, the blah images in comparison - I know you get this. Lot to see your channel grow. Keep up the great work.
I wouldn’t really call this the new direction. The actual new direction hasn’t even launched yet. The biggest issue is, showing work falls flat amongst the ravenous consumerism that pervades RUclips when RUclipss algorithm already identifies you as a show for people shopping and the channel goes no where. The larger a channel gets the more you can divert away from the stuff and move into actual photography. That’s the journey we’re on here. In the meantime, If you’d like to see work or suggest specific types of videos, Consider becoming a member of the channel. If that’s not your cup of tea, please enjoy the free content 🤙🤙🤙
@@ZWadePhoto Thanks for the explanation. I know you know what's working and not on this platform - that so many feel is loosing viewers for photography regularly. You're the best and appreciate the thoughts - always.
Thanks for the content. Let me just throw this out there: It might be nice to see you compare some of your favorite f-mount glass to Z (and/or) which you think are now great bargains because of the move to Zglass.
I wonder if I have a unicorn. I have an 85/1.8 Tamron SP. That seems equally at home on the D800 or Z5. I'm not in love with the current trend of extreme shallow depth of field. Back in the olden days I was an advocate of the 135/2.8. I still have one that I think is about a 1975 vintage that was Ai converted, and a similar 105/2.5. the focus peaking and on screen prompts makes using these classics relatively easy on Z-system cameras if I have decent light or contrast to work with.
I shoot with the Z 105 MC f/2.8 and it is mahvelous darlink! Totally agree on sharpness and color. The 85 1.2 may end up in the bag. But I have other things I need such as a second Z camera body! Hang in there mang! You are looking too sharp these days. Dressed for success.
@@je1642 if you want to be conservative, no it wouldn’t make much sense. They are close in focal length. If I could choose only 1 I would go with the 50mm 1.8
I don’t like telling people to sell one thing for another. All I can say is that the Z version is absolutely awesome and I don’t like the bulky FTZ adapters
For a vintage lo-fi feel, try a Tamron 18-270 on an FTZ. That way you get all the benefits of a sloppy nested-barrel telescoping zoom and throw away 60% of your pixels.

Hasn’t stayed at home since I bought it. I might have not used it a few times, but it’s always in the bag haha
My favourite is the 135mm Plena. It gives the look I want when shooting outdoor portraits.
🤘🤘🤘🙌🙌🙌
How does it compare to the 85mm 1.8?

The 105 does take great potraits!
Juicy…🤤

I love voigts. I wish they’d send me some to try out

I do but have any f mount lenses left I’m afraid

Heck yea my dude. If it ain’t broke, but sell it haha
I loathed the 105 and dumped it. Love the 85 1.8 and 50mm 1.2. And the 70-200 2.8 S at 200.
Do over!
Whaaaaat?!?! I love the 105. But I’m a macro guy on my own time so, 🤷♂️ haha thanks for watching

Hello would it make sense to Own the 40m f2 and 50m 1.8?
I currently own the z5 kit with 24-50m 4-6.

I have the 105 f mount. Is it good with the z6ii
Super fantastic lens 👌
I have the A F-S 105 mm 1:28G ED.. Should I sell it to buy the new S series lens?
Thank you .

@@ZWadePhoto Thank you.
Stuck between the 50mm 1.8 or the 105 Macro to pair with the z6ii
105 macro is definitely more fun. Excellent portrait and macro :)

You should
Include samples of photos for each lens to be more credible
I haven’t even shot them all yet. I have videos with almost all of them. Go watch.
Come on. Every professional knows you should use the Nikon Z 24-200mm set at 85mm.
Nah just kidding😅😅😅😅😅

Good lens advice n- but I mostly shoot portraits at f5.6 and would spend savings on lighting ... 🦘
In studio I live at 6.3, outdoors, I usually am rocking wide open with the f1.2 s 🤘🤘🤘
