    The Z6 was my first jump into mirror-less cameras. Coming from a Nikon DSLR, wow, what a difference. I still us my Z6 for streaming and stills work. It is an amazing camera and well worth the investment even today! I did use the Z6 for birds in flight and was able to get many excellent images.

    I enjoyed this video. A bit over a year ago I got a used Z6 to upgrade to full frame. I paid about 300 less than the current prices because it had a good sized scuff in the rubber grip. After noticing a internal mic issue near the end of the seller warranty, I asked if it would be covered. Wasn't even sure I'd send it in for it. They replied by sending me a shipping label and all. They sent it to Nikon for repair, who repaired it AND replaced the grip with a new one and new weather sealing gaskets. So, win win for me.
    Everything you said here I can agree with. I personally shoot for fun. Even the idea of shooting weddings for a job gives me nightmares. Its not a perfect camera, exactly for the reasons you mentioned. But for my use its fun and more than good enough. The autofocus is enough for me shooting portraits and landscapes ect. And with the ease of manual focus on mirrorless I use old lenses a lot too like the old 105 f2.5. A Z6 II would really be no benefit over it for me and would produce the exact same results for more money.

    Love my Z6. First and only digital camera I will ever need. Coming from shooting film for decades using a F8008s, N90s, F100 and F5 the Z6 was just fine for what I use it for. 24.5 megapixels is just fine. Don’t use auto focus lenses. I have an adapter to fit my old F glass. I typically use a 50 1.8 ai, 35 2.8 ai, 28 2.8 non ai and 135 3.5 ai. I have it set at manual mode and set the shutter speed accordingly. I use what I call automatic stop down and auto ISO control. I focus using the red colored outline on the subject. I wish film cameras had that focus technology.

    The Sony a7rii was my first ful frame mirrorless camera, but i had always been a Nikon shooter. So when the Z6 came out, i jumped on it. Its not the best camera but with a little time you quickly learn how to work around its few shortcomings. I still use my Z6 occasionally as a backup and for studio work. The images that come from this camera is just as good as anything you can get today.

    I am an avid amateur who just shoots whatever I want to. A year ago I stumbled onto a deal from a retired photographer who had a Z6 and all the fixings including the FTZ adapter. He had used as a backup and only had 70 clicks on it. I wound up buying it for $1,250 which a year ago I thought was a very good deal. Story short, I love the Z6 and think it's a great full frame starter camera for someone wanting to get into mirrorless.

    I bought a Z6 about 4/5 months ago and so far I can't say that I have much complaints about the camera.
    It's fine for all my event work, it does video excellently (especially in regards to autofocus), and I know that if I ever need a top tier quality video camera... I can simply slap a recorder on there and record 10bit 4.2.2 footage without having to buy a new camera. That's something I don use yet, but that I'm definitely grateful for (something that a few of my friends rockin a Sony A7III would have liked... they all needed to go to an A7IV when they needed 10 bit !)
    Otherwise, coming from a Fujifilm X-T2, I gotta say that the autofocus never let me down, even shooting stuff like wildlife and sports events. If you don't rely on subject detection too much, the camera is actually the best AF system I've used to date (with my previous two systems being the X-T2/H1 and the Nikon D700. Yeah, oldies I know).
    I have absolutely zero issues bringing the Z6 to a pro gig, and it didn't cost me more than my car. Overall just positives ! Few nitpicks here and there, but it was a much better compromise than paying more to get less like a Sony A7III or Canon EOS R.
    Also when it comes to the sensor performance, well even the Zf uses the same sensor, you wouldn't get any advantage when it comes to image quality by going for a newer sensor, which in my opinion makes the Z6 an even better value.

    AF accuracy is one thing but the ability to even get AF confirmation is another with mirrorless.I shoot the Z5, fuji xt3 so don't know how the AF is on other mirrorless camera's. But the AF on my old D4 beats the craps out of my mirrorless camera's. Especially in low light situations.

    Great video and excellent points. The Z6 has been my main camera, my second camera, and everything in between for both photo and video. It has its limitations, but I feel like most are not that big of a deal or can be countered (learning how the focus modes work and adjusting/external monitor for video etc). I came from a D750 and upgraded to a Z7. Soon after I bought a Z6 as a second body, but found that I was using it as a primary video shooter more often than not. Even after getting the Z9, I still found myself picking this camera up and being more than happy with the results. Autofocus might not be on par, but that hasn't stopped me from getting clients/paid. Sadly, selling the OG Z6 to pay for the taxes for the upcoming Z8:)

    I literally just subscribed to your channel because you described my shooting style to a T; hates shooting sports or wildlife, would never shoot weddings again and usually only shoots in single point AF. I'm looking at the Z6 specifically as a walk around camera for photos and videos on vacation. My cameras for paid gigs are a D810 and a D700. I'm a fashion photographer, I don't do video for work. I do find myself hating carrying around my big heavy DSLRs when I'm just out and about but I like to take video of my kids so I use a GoPro... Long story short, here I am. I figured a used OG Z6 would be a good walk around and vacation camera and double as a backup to my D810 so I can finally retire my D700. Thanks for the info.

    I bought the Z6 when it came out as a lighter alternative to my D850 for general photography and it’s been great. The picture quality is fantastic. However my passion is wildlife and birds in particular and the Z6 is just not good enough for small fast moving subjects. When it nails a shot the results are perfect but it misses more often than it hits. So for now I’m sticking to my D500 for my nature photography and waiting for Nikon to bring out a Z500

    • @ZWadePhoto

    I have no use for the Z6, but man! With the prices I am seeing in almost brand new condition with box, inserts, cables, and all accessories under $1,000, I am just tempted to try it for the sake of the sensor. Interestingly enough, I hate the way the camera handles. My purlicue just gets destroyed because of the tension it causes on my thumb. Another thing is that it has a battery grip that has no shutter release button! Why Nikon thought this was a good idea is beyond me! Love my Z6 and the firmware updates really improved AF. I think the one in October really helped out tracking mode as it seemed a little wonky prior to it. I found that getting things done is a lot easier on Z6 vs. D7100 when it comes to AF. The sensor is amazing and video quality is quite awesome for being 8bit. Sucks that 120fps is limited to 1080 but that 1080 is pretty fantastic!

      I haven’t shot one since 2020, but Ive heard a lot of Z6ii users who own a Z6 mention how much better the AF is now. 🤘🤘🤘

      I have a D7100 and many gopros for video. I am considering a Z6 for hybrid use (photo and video). D7100 rubbish in video, but will the Z6 be a good choice mainly landscape and trip video? Thanks.

      @MTBD80 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@lelezoli Yes, I've traveled with my Z6 extensively and it has been great. I also shoot hybrid when traveling (walking/hiking) and it's amazingly easy to go back and forth. Video quality is also fantastic. The 1080/120 is a very nice oversampled image. The II will get you more AF features in video and lil better AF performance overall.

    I am currently using a sony apsc (alpha a37) for my family photos, and would like to upgrade to either fuji xs10/20, nikon z6 or Panasonic s5. Since i shoot indoor also i think about z6. I am in confusion, please guide. No pro. works. I kept fuji, because of the form factor.

    Perhaps Nikon was able to shrink enough stuff in the time between the Z6 and Z6II to fit the second card slot and processor? It's easy to say, "They could have done it" without being in the design meetings.
    The F4 with the MB-23 looks more like subsequent vertical grips. But sure, hate on the epic F4! 🤣🤣🤣

    • @ZWadePhoto

      The F4 is amazing. But the slant on the grip is so silly looking. Like it’ll tip over if you sneeze. Haha

      Hahaha!! sorryy, my bad! So, you say you high recommend the Z5. It is comparable Z5 with Z6? I ask because the Z5 is presented like "entry level in full-frame", and Z6/Z6 II as for higher quality, more for experimented shooters. The results of 2 sensors are similar? As I know the Z6/Z6II has BSI sensor, and Z5 not

    What's your experience/thoughts on the Z6 AF keeping up with fast moving erratic subjects like kids & dogs? Can it keep up with the action or is it not very good, even in 2024 after all the firmware updates?
    Many thanks!

      @@GnarutaM the Z6 has a great looking sensor. But you may find it doesn’t meet the industry expectation in terms of autofocus compared to other mirrorless brand cameras in that price range.

    Does the Z6 have a better sensor or same sensor as the Z6ii?

    • @ZWadePhoto
      @ZWadePhoto  9 месяцев назад

      Many people will say yes, but side by side the Z6 to me seems a little sweeter for some reason. The performance on the Z6ii would be better, so maybe it’s not worth the difference. If you’re a shingle shot photographer, the Z6 sub $1000 is an absolute steal

    It always tickle my pickle when people complain about af. People love their af porn I've shot very fast moving subjects with no issues I don't really understand what the complaints are it kinda baffles maybe my technique is better maybe I bought the 26ii after firmware was updated a few times and improved but man some ones face could be so small in the frame and it locks to the eyes no problem and doesn't really get confused in the odd chance it did I just use manual focus override and pull the focus where I want and it's locks back on instantly easy peasy if I missed a shot it was always because I wasn't ready not the camera

    • @ZWadePhoto
      @ZWadePhoto  8 месяцев назад

      People have a little bit of point when they complain about AF as it relates to the competition. If your ecosystem is underperforming, to a big enough degree, versus the competition in a given price range can be frustrating.
