"I didn't write down the measurements so I'm just eyeballing it." lol you sound exactly like me! I measure everything and then lose the measurements just about every time.
Thanks for sharing! I'm going to do this for my cat, as my dog likes the "snacks" as well! I've been thinking of buying a kit, but I think I can do it with my dad, who has all the woodworking tools you do!
If you layed taped down first and then drew your pattern on top of the tape and cut you would've had much cleaner edges. The tape would've keep the edges from splintering
Scoring works ok, i would use masking tape... 3-5 layers(horizontal, 45 degree one way, then 45 degree opposite, then diagonal) of masking tape then draw ur cut line on it, and cut right through with jig saw. No fraying, no chips. Works great also for putting in grommets on nice desk finishes for wire management with drills too.
That is a cat hole, not so much that cat door. When I did mine, I actually made sure not to cut out the very bottom edge of the door and left the support that goes across the entire bottom of the door intact. I also use a Dremel and it was about as easy as cutting through wall board.
Could you please explain if the graphic you show matches your video of the glue up? You mentioned that you cut the interior part to match the door width, but the graphic shows the interior board extending up beyond the door to attach to the trim.
Great video and creative thinking. I would have given this a thumbs up, but how you handled the wood so close to the blade, not sure you kept all of your digits.
Not to say that this isn't a good job, but I get the feeling that this was something you just knocked out of the way because your partner kept nagging you too do it lol. Or maybe I'm just biased because my partner keeps nagging me to do this 😂
"I had to take really precise measurements of both animals"... That made me laugh out loud!!
"Any finish is a wipe on finish if you try hard and believe in yourself." That is hilarious! Thanks for making my day.
So much effort for purrfection! Awesome job well done.
LOL The dry sense of humor is why I watched until the end.
Yy

6:14 the cat would probably squeez under the door without that pet door :D
Very nice bud, wish me luck I'm going to attempt my cat door this afternoon. Tanks again.
Took me a second to realize what you were talking about when you referred to "snacks."
😂
Awesome job, but I don't have an awesome shop like you. So freakin' jealous right now.

Making a door for the exact same issue!! Thanks for the tips!
Beautiful cat!
The measurements of the pets wasn’t necessary but I enjoyed it
Good little babies
The cat is like wtf is this sorcery?!? 😂

Nice door
LOL! Petting the cat with the measuring tape! YaY!

0:29 - 0:40 nice measuring technique lol I do the same thing with my cats.
I would have just pulled the pins from the hinges to remove the door.

I think masking tape is suppose to help minimize tear out.
Great video and creative thinking.

I always think the same thing when I watch other people work lol...my fingers were plenty far enough away, they just look closer on camera :)
should not cut the last wood strip cos it is part of structure for the door (2x2 inch)
it's an interior closet door lol. it's held up fine for the last few years.
Cool!
So..I took a plastic tote and cut a hole in the middle of the lid. This works to keep my 3 dogs out.!
Oh yes do it yourself you have a full f****** carpentry work shop
