Push kicks are less risky for your toes, a good elbow block can break your toes on a front kick to the body so I prefer push kicks.

You need to work on your speed, timing and accuracy...

@@hokimoki3677 Don't worry, I am already working on it ;)
Still I mostly use push kicks, find them safer and more effective for my style regardless of my speed, timing and accuracy. I kept my snapping front kick for when I am stuck in close combat to crush my opponent solar plexus.

No so risky if you hit with your heel, of course the range is a bit shorter

Last year I broke a toe doing a front kick blocked by an elbow, exactly like you described. Wish I had read your comment before lol

Another thing is if a guy grabs your foot and starts ticking your foot. That will take the fight right outs ya!

Never really thought if the difference and seeing the purpose of each helps explain when to use one or the other.

I engage in a modified version of MMA training particularly for self-defense purposes and scenarios on a regular basis weekly, and I really love using pushkicks/teeps and front kicks as my first line of defense against an attacker rushing forward to me.

During Lockdown I was doing Karate then a year later I took Muay Thai for a Month so I can do both a Teep Kick and a Front Kick at the same time

So one is like a strike, and the other is like you’re pushing as far away as you can.

Arjan Pipa taught me how to modify the teep according to range and you can use the heel for the rear teep it has a stab and push all in one

A healthy diet with enough vegetables and vitamin D will make your bones strong, along with running and lifting weights and, jump squats and jump roping. Those things will make your shinbones strong. Kicking the thai pads and heavy bags very hard and very often will numb your legs over time so it doesn't hurt as much, and kicking the bags will also help a little bit in making your shinbones more dense. But mostly the kicking is to numb your legs and increase your kicking technique and endurance, a good diet+weights+running is what will make your legs strong and durable, kicking the bags will make them numb so you don't start limping every time your leg crashes into a knee or elbow
