I love the fact that you only use this old RWS deck - so refreshing. Proves the point that wisdom and knowledge does not require you to own hundreds of decks.
This channels stands heads and shoulders above many others in the tarot sphere - real depth instead of shallow popularity boosting and consumerism.
Ofcourse, you only need one deck.

Perfect timing John!! I've watched just about all your videos since deciding to dive deeply into understanding the meanings of Tarot. (Knowing that there are infinite levels and I am always open to learning more) I at the point now to do practice readings with people who are open to it. In my first practice reading, I realized that I was very calm...so I know my progress, no matter how small my successes are...slow and steady baby steps. Thank you! Something I definitely have to work on! I am prone to falling back on traditional Rider Waite Smith interpretation or Rachel, or Jessa, or Vincent, or Liz or any of the greats rather than actually looking at the card and feeling my way into an interpretation. Keep them coming!

Hello John, I have been a long term follower and like you philosophical approach to life of Tarot. Or even life in General, always like listening to your stories. I like many of your videos and your consistent approach like start with I know nothing. I have not done tarot in a long time, but was thinking of starting again! Looking forward to your new series. I think many of us get hung up on meanings and your approach of read the picture is an intuitive approach I like. You are correct every time you look at a card it will have a different meaning for each question or in your words what ideas does it contain! I think in one of your videos you mentioned what’s the first thing that comes to mind when you look at a card and then build from there. Maybe in the future lessons you can talk about reading a spread as a story? Or how one card influences the one beside it? Your camera set up is fine actually I prefer it rather then looking over your shoulder or straight on. Cheers, formally from Ottawa now on Vancouver Island.

Hello, Mr. Ballantrae. I took a hiatus from the tarot as well as from any related videos and returned recently to find this new series of yours beginning, and I'm very happy to jump in. I understand being overwhelmed by comments so I don't expect a direct reply here, but I do have a topic to propose for a future episode should you fancy tackling it. I have trouble with addressing specific questions in readings... for instance, if someone asks me "why do I have such a hard time detaching from my ex?" or "is there a future for me and (name)?"
In using spreads like the Celtic cross, where the position of each card is meant to represent a particular area of the problem (current situation, obstacles/challenges, etc.), I find myself trying to make the meaning I derive from a card's positioning fit the question (I know this is a "no-no"!) Furthermore, while I've been practicing what you preach about working from the images on the cards rather than the meanings ascribed to them by the various books out there, I do tend to get caught up in their broader archaic meanings as far as the four elements go. So, if a question is about an emotional or spiritual matter and I pull a lot of pentacles, I get stumped on how to propose meaningful answers to the question when the cards seem to be "deviating" towards messages about earthly matters and the material world. I tend to interpret quite a lot (and sometimes well, if I may so myself) but I feel that at some point, in cases like this, this kind of interpretation that favours the question over the cards might be somehow disingenuous or hurtful to the organic flow of information from the cards.
If you feel this would be an interesting matter to address, I'd be thrilled to hear what you have to say about it. I am also, of course, happy to hear from anyone in the community who might like to chime in with a reply to this comment. Peace be with you all!
You are looking wrong at it, you have to integrate the cards all together. So the pentacles you have to translate in emotions. But it can also mean thatthe focus should be shift to other things then love. It all depends on the reading and all the cards.. It’s hard to explain here, i am sorry.
Hey! Cheers from Brazil. I bought my Tarot deck couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to study everything I can get my hands, eyes and ears on. It's giving me a certain level of anxiety if I'm being honest, because I'm under the impression that I'll never be able to learn this well enough to read for other people. And then, I found your channel with this different approach of the Tarot and honestly, I'm really moved by it. This series looks promising. Thank you so much for sharing with us. 🥰

Same for me!!!!! I find it sooooo overwhelming, I feel I'll never be able to read freely and naturally. But I like the approach of not focusing so much on the card meaning and observing and feeling the card. It's very intuitive.
I am new I tried runes and I want to step away from them. So I have been looking into tarot and these videos are helpful. Also your voice is soothing.
The message of this video is the underlying concept behind the TdM Open Reading style. You read what is going on in the pictures, not necessarily the meanings. The Open Reading uses three cards to form one picture - this works with the RWS as well.
Straightforward, effectively explained video - fantastic.
