Description: "Jean Baptiste Armand Guillaumin (French 1841-1927) is one of the original members of the group of artists who started Impressionism, though he did not achieve the fame and repute of his contemporaries. The artist was born in Paris, and worked a series of odd jobs while honing his drawing skills in evening lessons. The lessons led Guillaumin to attend the Académie Suisse, where he met Camille Pissarro (French, 1830-1903) and Paul Cézanne (French, 1839-1906).
The artist showed several of his paintings at the 1863 Salon des Refusés. In the 1870s, unable to make a living as a painter, Guillaumin moved to Pontoise, a tiny village where he was able to find night work. This allowed him to paint during the day, using the natural light for which the Impressionists are so well known. Cézanne eventually joined the other artists in the village, and he and Guillaumin briefly took up residence together. It was during this period that they participated in the first ever Impressionist exhibition in 1874.
In the 1880s, the artist made the acquaintance of Vincent Van Gogh, (Dutch, 1853-1890) whose brother, Theo, would later help him to sell a few pieces. Perhaps due to the influence of Van Gogh’s bold style, the following decade saw a shift in Guillaumin’s use of color, he began to use brighter and more expressive hues to define his compositions, almost in anticipation of the Fauve movement.
During this late period of his life, the artist traveled throughout France and Europe. Guillaumin died in 1927 at the age of 86 in Orly, Val-de-Marne, making him the last remaining survivor of the Impressionist group."

A master painter indeed ; his diversity of style is astonishing; they’re all in there from Van Gogh to Matisse and Manet et al. A visual treat - thanks 👍
Expromantic artist: Though I am a colorist myself, but I must say some of his paintings are incredible. I have to see them in person. Looking at these small reproductions does not do justice to his true capabilities. Lovely and gorgeous! A great instinctive understanding of colors, a harmonious symphony of colors in the manner of Van Gogh. He also knew about colors a lot. When you paint after nature or any other subject, you could have a reality of your own, and sometimes your rendition could be much more exciting and energetic. Van Gogh wrote that after him, some painters would take colors to new heights. I thought I was one of them! Since this painter outlived Van Gogh, and his colors are outstanding, that is a testament to Van Gogh's veracity. I think they knew each other. These new Realists.who keep regurgitating Realism by giving it new names like Photo Realism of the 60's and now Hyper Realism have no shortage of prefixes, but they lack understanding of true innovation and creativity.

As a painter myself I have to say that most of them are excellent! Some are obviously sketches so I won’t judge his quality on those.
Beautiful. Calm and soothing. I like Happy Trees. I love Nature. Still Dali makes me think. Any Artist make me think. My Twin encouraged it. He liked to read my comments . It shows I am thinking. That is what I want my Art to do . Make People think. No wrong or right answer. It is in the Eye of the beholder. Even Abstract makes me think of my Emotions.
Beautiful Art
Like all artists, some of his paintings are good, some not so good. To be a recognized artist it is important that you do many paintings. A few thousand paintings of various quality is more likely to get recognition than a few dozen paintings of excellent quality.

Great paintings. I love the colors. That’s what I like to do. Bring back Fauvism and cubism. It fits in the 21st century.
Cubism? Initial ones had hardly any colors. Fauvism yes! The link: Van Gogh to Fauvists and then to Expressionists. Art evolves and we learn from the past and we add on to it.
That is what I am trying to do.
