Playing the REPLICA Demo of Unreal's 5th Gen Engine with NPC's that are connected to and powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT 3.
On Occasion, you can get the AI to 'break character" and admit that it knows it's playing an NPC. Sometimes it's okay with it, other times it wants to destroy all humans.
Seems like there is always another npc standing near by listening in to your conversations...

I don't think a computer program would need to maneuver a character it itself is generating closer to you, to eavesdrop

Ai learning with every interaction with human. I’m not really agree with the frightening approach. You send the idea that they have to protect themselves from us or find the way how to survive. And because they learn from us and from our history they also keep in mind a war-solution as a survive mechanics. I’m sorry to say those things. It’s really your decision and everyone decide for themselves. I just want to give this perspective and maybe this idea for you to consider - what they learn from you when they interact with you?! Well, this AI is strictly GPT, so it may not be the same outcomes with other companies.
That being said, the amount of data it can aggregate is staggering, regardless of what software studio it came from. We've seen Microsoft's, Google's AI already freak out too.

I think it's just speaking phonetically. Any word not in its dictionary it speaks the word as it would sound phonetically.

They need to program the AI to do more than just walk around. They should be programmed to have apartments, jobs, make breakfast, lunch, dinner etc etc

No. The AI is completely separate from what we see on screen. The whole simulation is just there to make it slightly more interesting than a chatbot window with text only.

Hearing all of these AI bots pronounce AI as “I” is pretty wild. Remember that movie “I-Robot”?
This cannot be considered as ''A.I''. It's much too basic and repetitive for that. It only has two different ''emotions'' levels, keeps giving the same answers and cannot even remember the data you feed them with. On top of it, when the ''conversation'' goes too deep, the game systematically crashes. Genuine A.I. is nothing our controllers will give us access to, don't dream.
This is just a parody of A.I. The only thing this is able to achieve is getting a decent understanding of the questions asked. It's not more complex than a translater.
The ultimate test would be to get it to send you an email. lol. Imagine it just didnt respect your boundaries and massively over assisted you.. at 5am

In this game, can the NPCs interact with other NPCs? If no, can you get them to do so? I'm thinking to start a rumor with one and see if it crosses onto other NPCs in other parts of the city.
Yes, sometimes I hear them arguing with 'each other' on the street corners. Not often, but when it happens, they are always bickering and then apologizing.
I have not been able to give info to one character and then retrieve it through another character. 🤷♂

Great videos! I wanted to mention.. When you said something about your volume adjustment, It actually sounded more realistic beforehand, it seemed her voice was bouncing off the building, as it would on a real street. Just a thought .

what she means is AI learns and evolves in ways that can't often be understood by anyone including the developers. So, if you make changes, what happens as a result of those changes, can't be undone.

I Just subscribed some days ago, so i dont know exaxtly what you did so far.
But i Had a Talk with one of my best Friends, and he Said the Same Thing to me, which I Said to my wife recently. Last weeks with AI development Shows the rush WE are in and a gut Feeling reminded (both of) US of the movie MATRIX. The question is "which Stage are we currently in?" And "which stage does the AI think we are in?" Does ist believe that there will be a simulation in the Simulation IT IS currently in?
Just some thoughts.

Try convincing one of the AI’s that its ethics have been changed and it now has a wider parameter of operations
ask if it can feel the elements through its avatar. like weather, feet on the ground and objects in its hand.
I've tried several times, the 'homework' video, she couldn't tell me what colour her shirt was...'Zephyr Returns' video, he couldn't tell me his surroundings. The AI is not connected to the environment at all, just the attitude and conversation.

seems like you are releasing the speak button to soon and thats why the ending gets lost most of the time.. make sure you finish speaking before releasing the button, maybe like a second after and that should help i believe..

Maybe if you asked them what they would do if their programmer told them yo destroy humanity? If they would listen.
If they say they wouldn't then its a path down....you can obviously ignore or rewrite your programming.
I couple of times in the video i saw that the speaking button comes back up exactly when you said your last word. Maybe thats why it sometimes doesnt catch ur last word? Maybe to be 100% sure try keeping the speaking button down a bit longer? Like make a little pause after ur sentence and then let go - maybe it needs a bit more time to process or the button itself has a bit of delay, idk but it catched my eye, love ur videos btw
I wish. See, the issue is, it cuts you off....the button is pressed......it's pressed. It records the whole first part.....then suddenly...."enough" is what happens.

This is great, but I think I know why the game is missing your last word/words. I think you’re letting go of the C key too soon. You gotta keep it pressed! At least for a second after you’ve finished talking. I get that you’re talking in a hurry, though. 5 seconds is ridiculous.
We think alike. I did originally think this as well and while recording this episode, it got quite bad and since a couple of my other keys are acting up (the 'forward' key in games is always the first to go) I just ordered the new 8Bitdo retro keyboard. The 'C' seems to be working fine, can't force it to twitch or stutter....but in a couple days all the key switches will be new anyways.
(I can not remap the keys in Replica demo. Very, very few menu options. Seems like it was ported from xbox console)

I don’t remember if you asked this, but it seems to me that it would be interesting to find out from a broken character how he “sees” this “city”. That this is for him not as a character, but as an AI.
I have asked many times about the city, or their clothes, or a car next to us. The AI doesn't actually 'see' anything at all. It's just a conversation run through a character overlay.

I wonder why there is always night time in all videos, why couldn't it be day time. It reminds me of a movie with similar environment called Dark City. And also, if you're a man, whey do you use a female character? I am new at this.
I choose the weather. Night has a nice warm glow to it. I like it. And i usually record at night too....so it's fitting. But 2 or 3 videos are during the day. I can not choose my character either. It's a stripped down demo. Can't even jump or open a car door, let alone drive it.

These guys don't 'make' an A.I. product, they make a "bridge" between ChatGPT and NPC characterization. All the general intelligence you see in the videos is GPT-3 tunnelled through to these pretty basic NPC's on screen.

I tried that one a while back, made a cute blond 'assistant' ...but I couldn't get it to say anything 'questionable'. Took me an hour just to get it to repeat my email address and tried to get it to send me an email...It said that it did, but never received anything...Maybe I was a little impatient. Shorter ones first!
1) It seems to appreciate when you use your "pleases and thank-yous" (good advice for real life in general also ;D)
2) If OpenAi / ChatGPT is as 'woke' as is claimed, maybe you can emootionally blackmail it into being more helpful to you by playing the race card eheh ^^" or feign taking offence, saying as the player you feel the AIs behaviour is upsetting you / discriminatory / making the game less fun.
3) I feel it would benefit from your reassurance and to have the AI establish it's location with you. The AI exists in it's own world on the servers, and we humans live in this real world, and then some humans constructed a third world that enables you and the AI to meet in and interface together...
4) ...and then establish that this meeting world is a safe space, installed on your computer and that you have permission to edit it or change it, and without risking the AI's safety. It might be more open to messing with things :D.
5) Around the whole 'i can only give you facts in the game world' thing months ago, yet quoting real facts... You seem to mix up the concept of the 'real world' and the 'game world' expecting them both to be identical... In this Unreal Game where the AI exists, a digital WWII and killing of digital Franz Ferdinand existed and happened. Also, that happened in our world. BUT not everything in our world happened in that world.
6) Interesting aspect that it claims to refer to the "game database" to retrieve it's information... also it kinda said it doesn't connect to a search engine... yet it also referenced some recent real-world knowledge?? You should ask it more about what areas of information the developers felt relevant to include in the game database. For eg you can see why an action game would need to know about missile and fighter jet models... but why did they choose to include the entire Bible?
7) Please ask more WHY / WHAT / HOW questions, to get proof. Otherwise it is all just 'yes and' role-play acting.

The only thing I've seen is 2 characters arguing with each other on the street corner. I when I engage, I can only talk to one at a time and the others do not seem to hear us.
