I like the version at KEXP better, but this one is great too. She gets into it a bit more on KEXP. Her voice is always so amazing. No, it's not a different language, it's just her vocalizations. In some songs, you will hear her talk in her own made up language (like in "A different kind of human" live at Christine's radio festival) Oh, and you look very pretty today. Yes, she does like her songs to be empowering, and she does make some of her sad songs more upbeat, which I do like as well. She has so many different kinds of sounds. You can't really put her in a box when it comes to genre. She is truly unique and special and mesmerizing to watch. Have you reacted to the video for "Queendom" yet? That's one that is very empowering. She is really big into equality and making everyone feel loved. She said in one of her interviews once that the only people she would not want in her fandom is racists and homophobes. That is why I love her. She wants everyone to feel loved and accepted.

Yes - it's her own personal language there. She does it in more than one song. She made up her own, what she calls her "emotional" language as a child and sticks it in here and there. (Not the exact same phrase, but made up language just the same). The KEXP performance of Churchyard has the wild dancing. She was a bit tethered to a headset and stationary mike for this performance. As for making you feel empowered...that is exactly her intention with the songs that cover dark human themes. In the course of the song that can bring you to your knees, she always offers the hope to get up and dance your way back into your own light. She is a special human in this world, and her "venue" is music.
