  • Newsy episode about potato blight causing early harvest......Pulling most of my garlic.....Erected the berry cage and giving new life to old CD's in the process.
    Along the way, I show a few maintenance tips for chives, cucumbers, and tomatoes. I succession sowed some new to me bean varieties.
    I hope you give this a watch, and enjoy sharing my garden adventures.
    @thefarmyardgarden - Appreciate your video that included the "witches broom" on garlic. All these years growing garlic, I had never seen the phenomenon, but now I have and knew right away what it was!
    @theflyinggardener - Small garlic clove grow along...worked!

    Your hostas are gorgeous and they are untouched by slugs! Your potatoes are gorgeous! Love their colours! Your netting frame is impressive! You always have great ideas! The berries have been incredible this year in the UK! Hope it will be the same for you! You harvested such beautiful garlic! Your garden looks amazing! All your plants are so healthy! You are such an amazing gardener! Love your signs for your herbs. I am so glad the beans are growing well for you! Really enjoyed the video! 😘🌸💕

      Oh TY so much!
      I do like my hosta's especially one called fragrant bouquet ....it smells divine. Slugs aren't a real issue here, but we have plenty of other critters you don't like the squash vine borer.
      I do wish we would have purchased a commercial fruit cage in the end, as it would be soooo much easier to deal with. Oh and there was an adult word uttered putting on the net and it was me not Al who let it fly LOL!
      The Crystal Apple cucumber you sent should harvest this week. I'm really looking forward to tasting those!

    Oh, no, Robin! I'm so sorry about the blight. Looks like you had a nice harvest though. Adirondack blue potatoes are always so exciting to dig up. It's just been a challenging year this year. It hasn't felt like a normal growing season. Lots of heat and then too little rain or too much rain. The CDs are a good tip for deterring birds! Beautiful dahlias!

    Those blue potatoes look amazing 🤩. Great result with the garlic, the bulbs look lovely and a nice size. Am going to give garlic a go later this year and just hope it's not too wet here 🧄🤞. Cheers 🙂🌱

      Do you have a raised bed you can put those garlic in? It's very rewarding and you don't have to buy it ever again, unless you want to try a new variety. It just hurts a little to have to use the biggest bulbs as seed LOL. I got my seed from the farmers market in town. I know it's acclimatized to here that way. I did get those soft necks from a grower in Northern Indiana which is same zone as me.
      Both varieties of potatoes taste amazing. It's so true that you can't beat fresh.

    Hey Robin 👋 so lovely to see you and Al! My gosh those temperatures, I'd literally melt 🫠 🥵 how do you do it!!
    So pleased you got a good little potato harvest in the end the purple ones look amazing!!
    Ahaha absolutely no adult language 🤣🤣 so we do all have potty mouths behind the camera! That's is an amazing cage wow 😲
    I am soooo jealous of the garlic 🧄 what a fab harvest!! Loved this video, see you soon ♥️ x

      Well I let some rip when we put up the net...always the trickiest part. It's working with the extension and the CD's look better than the reflective tape strips I typically use.
      Those potatoes are sooooooo delicious. Can't compare to anything store bought.
      I keep trying to film my flower gardens but they are just not looking that good. I think they are mostly just hanging on waiting for cooler days. I think I'll just have a go anyway.
      Off to watch your latest video as I see you've posted one.🥰🌱🥔

      Mags those potatoes are soooooo amazing tasting.
      The 4th was spent in the garden, much to Al's dismay. The garlic needed to come out and I rescued some sale flowers that were desperate to be planted. Spoiler alert the last variety of garlic was not as huge as last year.
      We're retired and have time, but not the energy we once had.
      LOL the garden is tidy, but don't ask to see inside the house.🤣

    Look at those blue spuds 😮
    Great early harvest Robin.
    Temps have dropped here and we had the heating on last evening!!!

      Yikes the heating on! LOL I cranked up the AC a wee bit last night to sleep! We've been having regular rain so the humidity is off the charts. Perfect weather to breed trouble in the garden.
      Yes those blue potatoes are pretty amazing. We've tried both in potato salad and roasted. The only real difference we've found is that the white ones...kennebec are a little more buttery in flavor and the texture is a bit more waxy....if that makes since. I'm quite keen to do potatoes again even though there was blight.
      My peanuts have a little something starting....ugh.

      @therightpearplot 29 дней назад +1

      @@RobinGardens Tricia always mentioned how it could be unbearably humid in Canada at times. And that AC was a must!! Definitely a right mixed mash of weather so far this year. Ants and moles are our pests at present . But I did use some ant powder today so hopefully there will be an improvement in the greenhouse tomorrow. A million flying ant yuk. Xx

    😢 my potatoes had early blight Steve thinks so I have cut all the leaves off and I’ll harvest later (they should be ok in the soil Terry King leaves his in). Mixed I formation about blight living on dead leaves but I put them way over I. Gerald’s area 😂😂. Not a bad harvest there Robin 👍👍. We are due mid 30's this weekend 🥵🥵 it's bad enough now at high 20's. Cage will be awesome take that squirrel 🐿️ and birds 🐦. Some awesome garlic compared to mine 😊. Love the tshirt 🐗. Hope it’s not too hot for you both, have an awesome day, Ali 🌞🥵🇨🇦

    Great harvest! And I learned something new with the juvenation of the chives. Not that mine have flowered, they're in a pot that only gets morning sun, if there is sun at all. But it's good knowledge for the future. I'm not sure if I can identify early blight, I get some funky spots after rain on some tomato leaves, which I've cut off. Not sure if it's blight or what.

    • @RobinGardens
      @RobinGardens  29 дней назад +1

      Since it's my first time for potatoes, I sent pics to my friend in the UK. Even if it wasn't, I got a good harvest and can grow something else.
      Ya I figured out the pulling of the hard bloom stems a few years ago. I would harvest chives and have to pull out all of them in the kitchen...which was much harder than cleaning them up once in the garden.
