FUN FACT! the creator of Death Note already confirmed that L is smarter than Light.
@@Danny-mg1hu There’s nothing funny in it. It’s common sense
@@capricornmir when did i say it was funny? i mean WTF?
@@Danny-mg1hu More in a joking way he didn't confirm anything lmao
@@Danny-mg1hu The opposite is directly stated in the comics.
L massaging Light's feet has definitely become a meme, but I still love the symbolism in it. L says he knows they will be parting ways soon, inferring he knows his time is up. Also the biblical reference. This scene is in reference to Jesus (L) washing his disciples feet . He washes Judas's (Light's) feet knowing he will betray him. It holds such meaning. The religous tone sin this show never fail to impress me.
fr it's so well done. one of my favorite scenes
@@iampancak3 I literally didn't even understand it was a religious symbolism at first simply because im not christian. Which made this feet scene even more odd the first time i watched it, because it felt more like some ecchi stuff going on 😆
@@LegioXXI oh lol yeah I remember when I saw it I thought of Jesus and juda.
Well because I am a Christian so it makes sense.
He also dries Light's feet and saying he sinned is because he knows Light sees himself as a God
There's also another story in the Bible of a prostitute (a sinner) washing Jesus' feet with her hair. Because Light thinks so highly of himself, to him, this is the symbolism. But in reverse it's the symbolism you put forth. Giving it a double meaning almost.
Also ironically, it's one of the only scenes L is seen with shoes on and Light has them off, in reverse of how it normally is
L’s last thoughts as he died were “I knew it! I wasn’t wrong..but I..” (this is from the Manga)
Yeah, but in my head I always edit the words: “b*tch please, I always knew” 😅
And the chapter name is 'hidden feelings'...
I still wonder if L died believing that Light was Kira pretending not to be throughout the investigation, up until his death.
@@negativenancy3738 L probably would have deduced that Light seemingly got his memories back at some point after Higuchi died.
This line to me could have meant so many things. It could have been: "but i....was too late", or "but i....didn't want to be right", or "but i....was not enough". Obviously since the chapter was called 'Hidden Feelings', L's last thoughts will remain his own.
Fun fact: you really can't tell with english dub, but it's apparent in the sub. In the beginning scene when L goes into Watari's office, Watari first asks him "what's wrong?" in a formal polite manner, like how a butler would address his master. Then he sees L's face and ask him "what's wrong?" again, but in a more informal manner, like how a parent would talk to their children.
oh, that's really cool details!
Yes, that is correct. It's the first and last time that Watari talked to L with such casual manner.
Probably could've worded it as What's up? The second time to do the same.
That's not something you could get from the sub either tho? You could only understand this if you knew japanese dialect.
@@zamaskowany12Sub watchers like to think they know Japanese.
I have a feeling L has known he would die from the moment Light became Kira again in the helicopter. He was completely subdued and always glanced at Light from that moment on, and the scene of them in the rain is L finally letting his true self out and showing his true opinion on Light, since he knows he won't have much longer to do it. He always thought Light was Kira, but could never prove it, so every single interaction of theirs has always been L trying to find the cracks in Light's armor and see if he could give him something useful. In L's final moments, seeing Light smile finally proved him right.
it was that stupid Rem! she/he got fooled in the end. there was no way for L to fight against super natural powers.......well there is the movie.
This is particularly why I felt that L is honestly the smarter one overall. The only reason why this man lost, even if Light had a great plan. Was that he lost to a emotional supernatural power. He was well on the way to finishing the case with the testing of that Notebook. Alas... Rem just wanted to be an issue, just as Light predicted.
@@Kuraudou Light created those fake rules knowing L would simply not accept it without testing them & in doing so dies by Rem,it worked out exactly as he planned but L had hard job for sure, without knowing anything about Death Note & the details of rules he never disappointed!
@@Kuraudou also that the creator of Death Note stated that L is smarter than Light. In fact when doing Death Note they had it planned out for L to defeat Light, but changed their minds. ***SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE**** It seems they decided to end Death Note the way they originally planned, maybe not all the way. L defeats Light in the movie, genius/intelligent putting his name on the Death Note far out ahead in the future. At the same time Light tried to manipulate a Shinigami, this time Reuk but failed to do so and backed fire with Reuk writing Light's name instead.
@@Itachi-no5xf also without knowing for sure if Shinigami existed, on top of that they able to have emotions/getting attached to humans.
My man L knew his time was up, but he still went down swinging trying to disprove the 13-day rule. Major respect.
I knew it from 1st ep😎
One of my gripes is that why did no one continue this line of thinking? L bimself stated that this was the last step. I guess no one had the guts to have a convict try the book
@@BuffPomsky The taskforce was morally opposed to it.
And then they put Kira in charge of operating the taskforce.
So there was no way they'd ever test it.
@@ElliotKeatonExactly this. The task force was opposed to it to begin with. And with Kira heading the task force, he would do anything to keep the task force in the dark and make them compliant.
@@GetWellSoonR.E.M. To be honest, beign morally oppossed to have a person senteced to death test it doesn't make any sense. Anybody complained that the case started doing the exact same thing with Tailor?
We have to give it a past for the sake of the story, but none of them questioned that years were passing and they never got any other clue on Kire, while the prime suspect of the guy that made all the progress in the investigation ended up in charge of the now fruitless investigations... All it took for Aizawa to keep the 13 day rule ringing in his head was somebody remembering him that it was actually a thing in the case lol

Most the Note's victims really struggle against their death, but L deep down saw it coming and looking at Light's smirking face he finally had the concrete proof. So he went more peacefully than others.
Pity he didn't have a pacemaker or defibrillator ready to go.
@@JonCombo Interesting that you say that because I just wondered if it's possible to save a victim of the Deathnote. Or is there a rule not revealed in the anime? I.e. someone being defibrillated after suffering a heart attack. Or having CPR performed on them if they drowned. Now I'm going to imagine an alternate timeline where L did have a contingency plan and was resuscitated.
@@lilscenechick1995 I suppose given the nature of it, you'd just keep getting heart attacks, regardless if revived. Still could've been a way to catch Kira.
@@lilscenechick1995Some heart attacks are to catastrophic for ppl to be saved by any method. I assume a heart attack caused by the Death Note would fall into that category, especially since the victims die almost immediately after suffering a Death Note induced heart attack.
@@lilscenechick1995 Go watch the Japanese live actions adaptations of this. Specifically movie two. You’ll enjoy the ending. I love it personally.
God as much as I hate this episode for killing him off, I also love it as it shows L accepting his death, the Christian symbolism, and Lights evil smile.
Some people like Light, some don't. I personally love the unique idea of having the Protagonist be more of a villain. Very few shows go down that route and do it well. And the absolutely genius plan from the previous episode combined with this one was extremely well thought out. Light manipulated everyone, even himself. And it's a shame. We can see from episodes 17-24 that Light really was a different person without the notebook. He actually had compassion and cared for people. But power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely. Light cared for people. Light cared for L. Kira did not.
I love him as a character in anime, he is expertly written and easy to understand. However I hate him for killing L.
But that is partially also because I like people with quirks and L is super cute eating sweets and doing silly things while being serious. And he was also expertly written, so I hate parting with him. He was the true counterpart to Light.
I love how many topics this anime explored related to morality, what is wrong and what is right, again and again showing us that the world is not black and white, even though Light sees it as such, L and the team must deal with various shades of gray.
Yeah, Light is 100% the villain which is why it's so interesting viewing the series from his perspective
This is the moment when Light became Heisenberg.
@@BriarShinn theres no argument there
Death note is the only show where they made protagonist pure evil instead of bs like Eren and Lelouch where they're forced to be evil because of same repetitive childhood trauma excuse
Writer didn't try to make Light likeable and that's what I love about his character
The reason I love L's death scene so much is how at peace L looks as he closes his eyes. It's the look on Light's face, and L finally realizes at his moment of death that he was right all along. He is able to die knowing that his suspicion of Light was always right.
12:34 the sound ppl did a stellar job here. The sudden silence in the rain emulates light's shock. Then when light formulates his response the sound of the rain gradually phases back in. That combined with both of their expressions, pure art
Some may disagree, but I think this is the best episode of Death Note. It feels so much different than every other episode in a sense that it's still a battle of wits between L and Light and both of them have their schemes, but they aren't what's important. There is always a sense of melancholy in the background, like something imminent is approaching. You can sense L's death approaching, just like L, and yet you can do nothing to stop it. Light once again manipulates everyone to his use and gets what he wants, and he holds his greatest enemy in his arms as he defeats him. It's so masterfully done.
It's a fact
Based
The manga was supposed to end with Light being the "God of the new world" because he was bored and lost all interest in Death Note. However, the editor wanted to continue it. The editor made a mistake there. If the series ended here, this manga would have been closest to perfection.
@@sosamma090 I do wish the story after L's death was better written, but the only reason I disagree with you is that there would be even more "Light is a gigachad and was always right" people than there are right now. Granted, you would expect people to have the critical thinking skills to deduce otherwise, but that's unfortunately not the case.
@@Marta-uv4id SPOILERS
I agree. And *you* might not agree with me on this, but I like what N and M represent. The show didn't give them ample time to develop as characters, I think, but as devices, I feel like they served their purpose well. And I like that they don't respect Light the way even L seems to. Where L's the foil to Light, existing in part to cement Light's view of himself as a practically unmatched genius whose only true obstacle is his perfect counterpart, N's like, "Nope. You're just a regular old criminal with a weapon of mass destruction. I didn't have to be L's intellectual superior to beat you. I just needed to drop the whole egotistical 'I will be the *one* to end Kira' mentality and actually work with my colleague." And then it's Matsuda of all people who guns Light down in the end. I dunno. Maybe this is just my way of justifying shitty writing, but it's kind of disappointing to me how many people think L should have been the one to kill Light. I wouldn't know where to begin explaining it, but I low-key feel like that would have been fuel for the "Gigachad Light" types too.
Sorry for the essay-length comment btw.
RIP, L. This was one of the greatest cat and mouse games in all of fiction. But like any game, someone has to lose eventually. Those last few minutes where L _knows_ Light is Kira and he's going to die, calling him out as a liar, and that final, meaningful staredown... Ominous, but enthralling. It's one of my favorite episodes. Also, the outcome between Light and L was foreshadowed with the tennis match; go back and watch, and you'll see how it plays out in comparison to the first season. Anyway, be sure to watch the scene of Light reacting to L's funeral; it' a fascinating look at how Light truly feels about L. The game is over. But that doesn't mean there can't be more...
Anime spoilers: You could argue L won here with a final move, by making it seem that it was over for his side. He lost personally, but still made it so Light turned cocky.
The music is so amazing in this episode and the voice actors truly give it their all.
And now we've arrived at the turning point of this entire series.
Definitely. I think the series goes way down after this. I don't recall it going all the way down to "bad" but the new antagonists do not hold a candle to how good Light and L were.
Keeping it somewhat vague because they seem to read the comments and I don't want to spoil them.
@@12thLevelSithLord I completely agree. This, coupled with the previous episode is a high that the show just does not reach anymore afterwards. It's still enjoyable for sure, but it's just not the same.
Also, I wouldn't worry about spoiling Kenny and Montana since they record ahead of time and already have the next, like, 10 episodes or so posted to patreon. However, there might still be people in the comments who haven't seen it, so it's still a good thing 👍
@@12thLevelSithLord I actually showed this show to my mom and dad who hate anime, they enjoyed it a fair amount, but I actually stopped the show after this episodes because for me personally I would’ve wanted the show to end here.
Completely unpopular opinion but I actually really like the second part of the season and love Near. The end was phenomenal to me
@@albino_dragon2447 I used to hate Near, cuz I really liked L and he was just a replacement, and I felt he was inferior to L. And if they were gonna bring a replacement L, they should not have killed L in the first place.
But after rewatching the show a few times, I've actually grown to like Near a lot. Still not as much as L but I like him.
I like to think L initially gave Light a rough foot massage on purpose, as a final jab to get back at light, knowing he's going to die.
That’s so petty lmao
@@peterwilliams2887 Sounds like L doesn't it? Lol
in fact, L, having sacrificed himself, eventually won. Light became the new L, just like Ryuzaki wanted. Those who watched the show know what happened next)
In the Japanese film L won without sacrificing himself. However, very smart.
still remember when L first showed his face to the investigation team....he said " i may have lost the battle , but will not lose the war " it stood true till the very end as ultimately his true successor unveiled kira and defeated him.
My take is they are BOTH equally smart in many ways, but Light has other types of intelligence specially in terms of charisma and manipulation, plus he's ruthless and doesn't care about anyone but himself, everyone is just a tool and that gave him the tools to win against L because he's free to just do whatever he wants while L tries to play with a set of rules. Which is also while many people compare Light with Lelouch, Light while the protagonist is also 100% the villain, while Lelouch isn't someone you actively hate.
People like Lelouch because he truly believed his cause was more important than himself. Light on the other hand is ultimately selfcentered.
Lelouch is what basically writer watched Light and tried to make his character likeable, by 'rectifying' (I think he ruined trying to do it) traits Light get hate for
For example Light gets hate for being cold, so he tried making Lelouch care for ppl around him but honestly he just made Lelouch inconsistent.
For eg writer shows Lelouch smirking while killing people (cause he wanted to copy Light's ruthless side because that's seems cool) but then he didn't want Lelouch to get hate like Light got so he make Lelouch cry for killing people in next scene.. Like- boy why were you smirking under mask while killing if you gonna cry about it afterwards?? how that makes sense?
@@melak8325 What makes you think Lelouch was inconsistent? He showed empathy to people he liked and respected. Nothing inconsistent there.
@@placeboobshere5458 yeah and he also showed zero empathy to others, going as far as enslaving them and using them as literal pawns and discarding their lives as such.
@@sb17899 Which Light does as well. Lelouch atleast shows he believes his cause is more important than himself.
L: Has there ever been a moment when Light told the truth?
Me: Well yeah, when he forgot all his memories, he was telling the truth often
For some people, this is where the show ended. I know people that dropped the show right here.
It's also one episode from 26 which used to the the standard run time of animes for a long time. 12-13 is the new "seasonal" format. But a ton of anime used to run for 26 episodes in the 2000s.
first time i watched this anime fully and then decided that ep.25 will be final for me. not because L died, but because Light became... hmm...
-spoiler probaby?-
stupider? no more 4D chess and all that stuff. he just became regular serial killer.
@@kudanez2085 For me it's a pro and con. It's a con because, what made Light compelling was the relative moral grayness to him and his mission. You COULD root for him, and a lot of watchers/readers do.
But the pro of turning him more into a clear cut bad guy, is that the show gets to explore different ideas than it could have prior. For better or worse, you can't say 'part 2' is a retread of part 1 for instance.
It wasn't the fact L died for me but *spoiler*
They "replaced" him with a similar character who was really annoying imo. I don't usually write off characters or hate them for no reason but I didn't like Near at all.
Death Note's anime sadly cut off tons of scenes regarding both Near and Mello, replacing the intellectual cat-and-mouse game with more fast paced, action scenes. You should try giving the manga a shot, as Near and Mello have more screentime and more character development and Light's character doesn't become as flat, rather he stays as smart.
I don't understand why people hate the Near arc so much. In fact if you didn't watch the L arc and only watched the Near arc of Death Note it would still be considered at least a good anime. Its just that the L arc was so much of a masterpiece that Near arc just couldn't hope to compete. However there are some cool scenes in the Near arc.
I always thought the bells ringing was L hearing his own death knell.
Honestly Light was playing at an emotional level, playing with people's hearts and friendship. Manipulating everyone and even gods of death.
L also never slept pretty much. He always had his eyes wide open.. This is first time resting truly. :(
The ominous feel of this whole episode leading up to L's death is like no other. There is a constant feel of suspense and incoming doom. I forever applaud the makers of this show. I will say that in my opinion, I 100% think that L knew he probably wasnt gonna make it the moment he saw Light get his memories back. That's just when he knew.
L’s death has to be one of the saddest deaths in anime
It’s the bell of a funeral. I heard a line in fanfiction regarding L and Light “a garden is only pretty so long as there’s someone to tend it.” Now the Light’s gardener is gone, I wonder how he’s going to cope?
Not many reactors catch the religious symbolism with L washing Light's feet scene. I'm impressed.
So for clarity, the feet scene is in reference to Jesus washing the feet of Judas right before Judas betrays him.
L always knew light was kira. L's last thoughts before he died is "I knew it! I wasn't wrong..but I.."
and L was grabbing on Light's shirt but as soon Light smirked, he let go of it ;( [in the manga] NAHH I LOVE L SO MUCH😭
I miss kind light. Anyway this reaction is definitely the one everyone was waiting for.
19:35 Am I the only one who noticed the reddish brown eyes...His red eyes almost flickering when L died..But then it went back to just red again with that evil smirk...?
It is weird, to hear Misa singing in another language...
In the German dub, they kept the Japanese recording.
I was hella confused for a moment. 😂😂
If I'm not mistaken, Jesus was near the time of his death when he washed his disciples' feet.
Also there's a L funeral scene and if you think Light was psychopathic, wait til you see that scene.
He washed Judas feet even when he knew his decision to betray him.
Absolute power doesn't corrupt but rather reveals character.
It's true. This case shows it. If someone else takes the Death Note, this wouldn't have happened. I mean, it depends, maybe there are people like Light. But Light's sense of justice, him being better than anyone, him being bored and unchallenged, the note gave him the challenge, the power to change the world. He looked at himself as a god. He felt invincible most of the time. Sure, there were cases where he almost slipped up and started to panic. This was all an enjoyment for him, something he couldn't experience in other ways. It was like a game for him. His thought process, his personality always was like this but he wasn't 100% bad. For a limit I supported Light's idea, he went way too far. It all became a game for him. When he forgot about the Death Note and lost all other memories connected to it, he was that young genius with the same sense of justice, but morally not that rotten.
@ I knew from episode one it was going to spiral because he wanted to be a god and those types of people always have a god complex.
Fr Light is like any other human being. We all have a darker side but we make it into intrusive thoughts.

"We're not? 😧"
25:00 Well, yeah L is dead so it seems like Light is smarter. However, if you check the first episodes of the show like after L included in that case, he alredy solved the case and told that Light is Kira, but he couldn't prove it since Death Note is not something he would expect like he doesn't even know that, that kind of a book exists. So I'll say that L is smarter than Light.
I agree. Light had a huge advantage with the death note, it's rules and capabilities that L didn't know about

Yep, it's Jesus washing Judas' feet.
Just like Jesus, L knows he's gonna be betrayed and killed by his friend. That's the message L is trying to convey. He figured out Light's entire plan already and knows there's not enough time to do anything about it. He knows he's going to die.
You missed a chance to include a Light Grippers Count 😭
In the editing, you mention that the discussion is for copyright but honestly its the best part about your reactions. It's like having a little peak inside your heads while you are watching
I wanna say: I always felt like Rem kinda rushed her decision there. I know she's willing to die for Misa, but doesn't mean she wants to. Plus she despises Light, and yet is playing straight into his hands.
I feel like she could have, at first, talked with L, try to make a deal where she'd work with him, tell him everything she knows, etc., in exchange for Misa's immunity. And to make it clear that if he refuses, then her only option would be to kill him (and, hey, he doesn't know that would kill her off as well, so that threat would be particularly effective in that context).
That way, L has a powerful ally in catching Kira AND remains alive, and Misa's safe, as Rem wants. That's very much a win-win situation, and I think L would agree. Especially since the alternative would be that he dies and Kira wins, because that is what would happen if he refused: Rem just do what she does her and the story continue as it did before.
Least dramatic outcome for sure, but if I was Rem I'd at least try to make a deal with L there before going for the extreme solution, no?
Any outcome where Light gets caught is off the table for Rem. If he goes to prison or gets executed it would destroy Misa's happiness. Basically Rem's only option to protect her happiness was to make sure the Kira investigation never gets solved.
You forget the key part in this scenario. Since rem cares for misa so much, she cannot do anything that harms Light also, despite all light is doing rem is not sure whether light would harm misa once L is dealt with.
I’ve posted several chapters of a fanfic with very similar story-beats to what you’ve suggested.
In my story, after Rem sees that Misa’s lifespan was halved again, she realizes that Light must have manipulated the situation to bring Misa to the point of making the deal again, infuriating her and causing her to realize just how little Light cared for Misa’s wellbeing.
So when she later realized that Light was trying to force her to kill L and, by extension, herself, she went and made a deal with L based on the fact that, though she was willing to die for Misa, she couldn’t bear the thought of Misa being left alone with Light without protection from Light’s manipulations. Basically, Rem was more concerned about an unchecked Light ruining Misa’s life than temporarily breaking her heart.
It's definitely rushed, but given what the author intended, it had to happen asap.
Because this way, it's basically like L just got the DN, and had zero time to act on it. This both serves as a way of protecting L as a character, but also making the second investigation feel fresher, when they know of the book from the very start.
the issue why Rem rushed to kill L was thatL suggested the 13 day rule could be fake. Rem had to instantly shut down that thought, because if they find out the rule is fake, that means Misa is back being the prime suspect. And she knows that the other task force members are no threat and don't think ahead, so if she kills L and Watari immediately then they aren't going to question the rules anymore. She basically had to react instantly and didn't think it through.
About their inteligence there is two thing you have to count. L find out Kira searching whole world. This is point for him. BUT after FBI agents L guess who maybe is Kira and he stick to this guess. It was never matter of "i have to gather more clues to raise %" it was "i'm 100% sure its Light becose... why not. And i want to prove this."
That why he was so... frustrated when all clues prove Light is innocent and he still was 100% sure it was Light. That is big minus.
The Smash Bros edit was hilarious 😂😂 hats off to the editor
Hope you watch L's Funeral scene
L washing Light’s feet before his death appears to mirror Jesus washing Judas’s feet before his death.
Game is not over yet though hahaha This is actually more like a player sacrificing the queen to set up for the win
L's Final L
Ironic how the episode named "Silence" has the best sound design of any anime episode ever. I will die on that hill. It's so interesting how this episode in specific plays with the audio mixing. Like when L breaks the cookie and the sound of the cracking shortbread drowns out the rest of the sound. It's such a neat touch. I think the sound design is easily one of the easiest things to take for granted in a show as it isn't in the forefront of everyone's mind the same way animation or music are.
Considering L found light within weeks of him using the deathnote and immediately fingering him (giggity) as kira he wins in my eyes. Especially considering he was playing with half the deck stacked against him not even knowing the other worldly elements in play as well as, besides the unlawful imprisonment, working within the confines of legislation
em no? go back and watch episode 3, the only reason L got so close its cause Light wanted that to happen in order to find his name and kill him

Yeah but after the last episode, that scene was deleted for a reason it’s a spoiler if not how Light acts, it’s what Ryuke does at the background lol
Agreed, I always felt that although Light has no remorse for killing L and he may not even realize it himself, but he will feel incredibly lonely and unchallenged again. They may not have been true friends in the end, but Light and L were kindred spirits. Rest in Peace, L. You will be sorrily missed🥺
👇people who want see them watch Code Geass after Death Note
Their Death note and Aot reactions have been the best so I feel Code Geass, Monster and Vindland Saga are the best follow ups for many more amazing discussions
I'm recommending it as much as I can. Glad to see many others recommending too in the comments
I loved rewatching this with you guys. I rewatch this anime every year with different creators so I can get fresh takes on it... But i always stop at episode 25... Ive only ever watched it all the way through ONCE... Never again.. I cannot continue. But I really enjoyed this journey with you ❤️
L always knew Light was Kira he just didn't have enough evidence to convict him. He was so close too.
Here before this premieres and I cannot wait for this reaction
spoiler:
L asked if Light ever told the truth
In the end L himself made a lie
"i told Watery to delete all the data if something where to happen with him"
While, he told Watery
"Send all the data to the orfin"and crash our system"
This lie made it so Light wount not know about the next detective coming his way. Making him feel more at eas. While the the next detective does have ALL the data, meaning Light cant lie.
While Light killed L with his plan. L planned ahead, offering his live to let Light be sentenced.
This is the point in time when you are gonna get the 'wow I guess the show's over' and the 'there is no more death note after this' etc comments. I o have full respect for the people who dont like the direction the show took after L's death, we all have opinions and all of them are valid. Personally I love the show that continues after though episode 1-25 will still be iconic for me and just hit different. But I will say try not to go in the last half with negativity, it only makes it worse!
L's funeral scene is the ending in my eyes
If the game is fair, L would surely win.. He is in a disadvantage all the time with Only Light knowing the rules of the game..
The truth is... The game was rigged from the start.
Only Light's playing tho.
@@TheGrandJeef Not the FNV reference 😂
em no? go back and watch episode 3, the only reason L got so close its cause Light wanted that to happen in order to find his name and kill him
@@elsotanodelhorror810 true, but not after the fact L tricked him when he killed his stand-in.. So it was not his intention in the beginning, Light's cockiness is his strength and weakness as well, and L did exploit that..
Big thing moving forward, lots of inner monologues get cut from this point onward, so if things get confusing…that’s why
13:07.. Montana's face 😂😂😂😂. She's not here for Light at all..😅
Just can't help but think
WHAT IF
Light never touched the notebook again.
Seriously after y'all finish this series watch Code Geass you will love it
how did y’all not cry?😭 when i watched this episode for the first time i literally balled my eyes out and i still do
Because they watched the episode beforehand. You should be surprised how well KENNY is predicting everything right about this episode in the beginning of this reaction video
@@noorahmadsarkerrayhan7739 The symbolism is pretty obvious. Only reason you wouldn't predict it is a lack of media analysis skills
This episode probably takes the most creative liberty from the source material in the series and it’s so good.
not in the mood for love, but always in the mood for death
L played the game without knowing what the rules were. And he played it masterfully.
em no? go back and watch episode 3, the only reason L got so close its cause Light wanted that to happen in order to find his name and kill him
@@elsotanodelhorror810 That's not even true. Light wanted the police to find L for him. A plan that, mind you, failed once L created the Task Force.
@@jessetheanimenerd3304 not really, he literally says "my real agenda is to get close to L so i can eliminate him" go back and watch the episode lmao
@@elsotanodelhorror810 He didn't mean that literally. He immediately followed it up by explaining his plan to get L to investigate the police. Why do you think Light killed Raye Penber and Naomi? Why do you think he was so caught off guard and angry when L directly approached him? It's because he didn't plan to be literally close to L.
@@jessetheanimenerd3304its not because of that he killed them to get rid of unnecessary evidence
After this materful episode is where Death Note starts to go down in quality and never really recovers.
I love that the "L genius counter" reached exactly 100.
Also, I when I watched this episode with my then girlfriend she was inconsolable for at least a week 😅
How high is the chance of L knowing Dem would actually intervene and kill L to save Misa? L could have figured out this Shimigami belongs to the second Kira.
I just noticed how Rem just said Shimigamis do not need to feed.
Given about the information he had that a notebook has a death God around and how Rem is not very cooperative with L and clearly lacks the interest for apples.
It's been over 15 years since the first time I saw it.. and yet still L's death breaks my heart everytime 💔
Kenny is a literal genius, this dude literally predicted everything that happened in this episode. Literally a reincarnation of L
idk man sometimes I feel like he's watched it. And if he has, he's a reincarnation of Kira =O with a Misa at his side, no less.
I'm sorry. Nothing I say makes any sense anyway. If I were you, I wouldn't believe any of it.
Some of these reactors are very perceptive. Shera from yaboiroshi is also another who can guess the next chain of events with relative consistency.
@@oneRyanJoseph honestly most of the things you say sound like complete nonsense
@@oneRyanJoseph yeah, some parts in their reactions are a little suspect. Quite a few times in FMA I felt he read or watched ahead, but I dunno.
I don't think he watched it ahead of time, but he clearly had stuff spoiled for him or read a synopsis. There was so much of him goading her with "awww how sad would it be if L died amirite???, that one simply wouldn't do if you were just following the show.
While it is really sad that L died, I feel like we've glossed over the major importance of Rem's life and now death. She was essentially the conscious for Misa, acting as the carefulness to counter Misa's blind impulsivness. On top of that, all of Light's emotional abuse and manipulation that Rem would be able to alert Misa to, she can't now that she's dead. Rem was sort of like Misa's anchor, and now with her gone, Light not only has free reign to be an evil god, but also bend Misa to his will with no restriction. Everyone loses in this episode, except Light.
I would argue that L was smarter. L was at a severe disadvantage because Light had the notebook and knew everything about how Kira's powers worked. L had to piece together how it worked from only partial information. And ultimately it was Rem who killed L, not Light. Having a shinigami who would act on Light's behalf is what allowed him to win.
On top of that L has an ability to think like other people in a way that Light does not possess. He is able to tell when someone is being desceptive or being genuine. It's subtle, but there are several clues that point to this:
1. L recognizes that the 2nd Kira is serious about showing off their shinigami in the recording, and screams and falls over because of it, when there is no real reason for him to reach that conclusion.
2. When Light gives up the Death Note and loses his memories of it, L correctly identifies that Light is being genuine in his denial of being Kira, even though L believes Light is Kira and all evidence supports his theory.
3. When Misa tells Light that she will obey Light's wishes and not investigate The Yotsuba Group further, L notices that she is lying. Light, on the other hand, believes her.
I'm sure there are others as well, but you get the idea. L sees through people in a way that Light simply isn't capable of.
I think L was smarter, but he had the burden of proof, so he was often at a disadvantage. Given how little he had to work with, and how many more options Light had but fumbled with, I think L ranks about a 9.5 on the Brilliant Savont Genius (BSG) meter.
The scene at 11:00 is so eerie. L is such a good detective, in this moment I think he even deduced his own impending death.
I love the live action version of this.. from what i remember L wrote his own name to live a little bit longer.
are you guys planning to watch short episode L funeral after the show
You should definitely watch the "L's funeral" scene.
Ryuk finds humans interesting while Rem finds them disgusting.
Also there's a deleted scene of Light visiting L's grave that you could watch
I think it's from Death Note Rewrite - a re-release of the show with some added scenes
It wasn't a deleted scene, it was a scene added to the movie
Pls Code Geass after Death Note. Let's keep these amazing discussions going
I still hold the story could've ended here. But I do love where it goes after this
Then it would've been an open end. Not satisfying. Also doens't go well hand in hand with the moral of the show.
@@tabithadejong6365 nah a story where the villain straight up wins could still have been sold. 90% of the shows most iconic moments are this episode and earlier.
I can imagine after discovering the death note and shinigami L probably had some kind of internal breakdown as he realized that these beings could keep giving people the power whenever they wanted. There's nothing he could do about it. Kira can always come back no matter how often he finds the culprit.
Honestly the best episode of Death Note, L knew his time was coming up, the scene in which L was drying Lights feet was symbolizing Jesus cleaning the feet of Judas, knowing he would betray him. Rem Dying also means they have 3 deathnotes now.
I was devastated in this episode
L does know, he's always known pretty much. But as someone who doesn't want to kill Light himself, but capture him, try him in the court of law, he needs hard evidence.. But because it's all supernatural stuff, it's incredibly difficult
I bawled like a damn baby when L died 😭😭😭
One of my favorite...I wanna say 4? Episodes. The previous episode where Light's memory comes back and his plan is revealed, the one where L appears, Light kills Lind L.Taylor and reveals Kira's existence, the first episode, this, and a non-specific episode I don't want to hint at or spoil as it has yet to come.
My favorite bits are when L calls Light out on his bullshit, both because Light KNOWS he's right, that he's a fundamentally dishonest person, and because he only reinforces that when he deflects "have you ever told the truth?" with" everybody lies sometimes". He never answers the question directly, never confirms or denies it, even to say "yes". His answer is more dishonest than a straight up lie, because at least with a direct lie, you've given a definitive statement. Listen to Light answer that question, he starts talking like a politician, he won't even be any kind of direct with L, who he knows he's got against the ropes, who isn't asking with wiretaps or recording devices or any traps or tricks. He goes out into the rain where any evidence he could gather would be ruined, where it would just be the two of them talking where no one could see or hear them, and asks Light, who he almost certainly considers a friend, to just be honest with him. Light could confess here and L wouldn't be able to do a thing about it and they're BOTH smart enough to know that and Light just...lies, doesn't even directly address the question L asks, because he's that much of a snake, and L knows it. "I thought you'd say something like that". The closest thing to a redemption this scene gives Light is when L is dying, and he gives him that smile, that "I've WON" smile, only for L to see, to confirm that yes, he WAS Kira, before L dies, so L gets the closure of knowing, but with how Light is, everything he's done so far, he'd have done that anyway, taken that opportunity to gloat to his greatest foe that he'd won.
Personally I think L is the smarter one between them, Light's advantages are almost entirely supernatural and unpredictable and L STILL had him so cornered he had to erase his memory and give away the Death Note to even get out of it. Still a brilliant move, but a mundane, human detective with natural, human level resources was still absolutely obliterating every strategy put forth by the supernaturally empowered teenage genius with undetectable gods of death, if not on his side, then in his camp. Plus he had an entire OTHER supernaturally empowered person on his side with greater power than him AND an actual shinigami ally willing to die for her. Light BARELY wins, and even then, he had a god of death do it for him, he still never learned L's real name until presumably after looking at Rem's notebook.
Ultimately, I think Light lost in this episode, because he sacrificed everything in the name of winning, lost his only equal, probably the only person who could be a genuine friend to him, and is now doomed to a pointless, lonely existence, while L got to die fulfilled, knowing the truth, his best and only friend at his side, knowing others would continue after him. Light won the game of cat and mouse, but L won the game of life on his own terms. His death is sad, but Light's life is sadder.
In 2006, 2 life action movies of Death Note were made in Japan, and the outcome of L vs Kira ended different than in the anime. Yo guys should check it out.
Mi esposa y yo anhelando este episodio con su reacción 😊. Gracias seguimos "siguiendoles".
The smile right before L dies is telling allot and making L sure of himself
Great last episode of Death note! Really enjoyed the series!!
Oh this one's gonna hurt
