Samaritans, the world’s only holders of dual Israeli-Palestinian nationality, are a unique religious minority on the verge of extinction. In the Heights of Nablus, Abdallah (Abood) Cohen, the high priest’s grandson, seeks to find his own way.
Samaritans: we tend to stay out of politics
Abood Cohen: I'll become president of both countries
Hahaha
I'd love to see that actually :)
"Tend to..."
High priest and president of both countries You never know it could happen I would vote.
Peacemaker ، you idiot
I'm an athiest but respect for keeping this ancient tradition alive. Best fortune to those 800 folks
There are countless entirely harmless ethno-religious groups practicing ancient traditions. It's really only Christianity and Islam that have caused so many problems.
I’m a Karaite Jew. I love my Samaritan brothers and sisters
What is the difference between them and Judaism.

Jews consider their most holy place to be Mount Moriah, Samaritans Mount Gerizim.
A LOT MY DEAR FRIEND!, A LOT!.
BUT THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT YESHUA LOVES ALL EQUALLY!.
The priest said most palestinians are samatarians from their ancestors.
@@laanaa26Palestinians descend from all the ancient people of Israel/Palestine. So after lots of invasion, exiles and people killed in the periods leading up to the Roman period and during it, there remained three main peoples in the land: Samaritans, Jews and Pagans (Israelites that worshipped the Canaanite god Ba’al). In the Byzantine period, large numbers of all three peoples were converting to Christianity. This slowly continued for many centuries and by the 12th century, most Samaritans, Jews and Pagans had become Christians.
In the Muslim periods, those Christians started converting to Islam in large numbers until most of the Christians had become Muslims by the later Muslim periods. In the Muslim periods, large numbers of Samaritans were converting directly to Islam and bypassing Christianity. Most of the Palestinians in Nablus today are descendants of Samaritans that had converted. The Pagans had disappeared completely through conversion, but a minority of Samaritans, Jews and Christians remained by the Ottoman period while the majority of the population had become Muslim. Jews from Europe started arriving in the 1880’s and moved into the communities of Palestinian Jews on the coast and eastern Galilee. More and more Jews were arriving as time went on and the Palestinian Jews melted into the immigrant Jews until they disappeared. This left only Samaritans and Christians left and both had become small minorities by the 20th century.
"the conversion of pagans, Samaritans and Jews eventually produced a Christian majority"
Goodblatt, David (2006). "The Political and Social History of the Jewish Community in the Land of Israel, c. 235-638". The Cambridge History of Judaism.
" During the Late Roman and Byzantine periods, many Jews emigrated to thriving centres in the diaspora, especially Iraq, whereas some converted to Christianity and others continued to live in the Holy Land, especially in Galilee and the coastal plain."
Ehrlich, Michael (2022). The Islamization of the Holy Land,
634-1800. Leeds, UK: Arc Humanities Press. pp. 3-4.
"Moreover, vast areas of rural Palestine, such as Galilee and Samaria, had an absolute Jewish or Samaritan majority.
The influence of Christianity in these regions was therefore limited and came at a much later stage than in the pagan settlement areas."
Bar, Doron (2003). "The Christianisation of Rural Palestine during Late Antiquity".

I'm smiling thinking about how Abdallah then showed this video to his uncle and he was happy to see his nephew on the internet.

Your interview in another channel brought me here. I am teary-eyed watching this film. I am a christian and I have great love for the Jews and the Israelites (from the great kingdoms of Judah and Israel - the descendants of Jacob). In our book the second testament, Jesus dispayed his great concern for the Samaritans. He used Samaritan characters to teach good moral values towards others and towards God. He defended them against the Jews. During this conflict between Israel and Palestine, I realize the significance of the Samaritans in Israel. I learned that they were left behind when the Jews were exiled in Babylon. They are a proof of the existence of Israel since the beginning of time. It is noticeable that in the enumeration of your friend of people who have lived in your place, he did not mention the Jews and the Israelites. Jesus was a man of the land of Judah and Israel. He died in Jerusalem - where Judah and Israel meet. I pray for your people and your land...May your tribe increase. I pray for the peace in Jerusalem. Our God - yours and ours - is faithful and just. He has been faithful to Israel, to the Jews since the time they recognized Him as the creator of heaven and earth. Yes, how it is to be a Jew and Israeli without the Passover???!!!! Jesus, also, told his disciples - from the land of Judah and Israel ..."I am with you till the end of time!" SHALOM!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Im Chatolic and i love my brothers and sister Samaritans✝️❤️
Love our Samaritian brothers ❤️ From Kiryat Shmona. Thank you for educating us.
This documentary is so beautifully done! Thank you very much for sharing your precious culture, people and religion with us. You have done a wonderful mission for Samaritan. I have learned so much from this documentary.

This is the most profound moment of this entire documentary, his line "We have to survive." gave me a megaton of existential chills.
This was a great insight. I find the traditions and history fascinating. I also think it is interesting that the Samaritan Torah matches up with the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint in fine detail, and that the Hebrew used to write it is one of the oldest and still spoken. It says much on its authenticity. Authenticity is rare these days.
This is awesome, Abood Kohen I'll like to come to mount Garizim to see for myself the way of the Sameritan Israelites.
As a Jewish person, I respect and love the Samaritan community who are our sister nation.
Thanks for sharing your life and faith with the world. I’m sure Samaritans will continue to exists in the future too. Good thing to marry converts to help you rise more children who are also healhty. Israeli authorities must help Samaritans more to have better lives, health and preserve Samaritan culture.
The Israeli authorities have indeed helped. Facts: by the end of the Ottoman period, they dwindled by massacres to near extinction, with about 150 people left when the State of Israel was reborn. After Israel took over, full integration was gjven and their numbers have been steadily rising. Nearly 1000 now. The Samaritans basically owe the Israeli's a big thankyou for preventing their demise.
@@weisshalivniwine Israeli lies AGAIN the world sees all your lies that hide your evil doings!!! The Samaritans were in fact living with the Palestinians peacefully just as the Christians were and are!!! Thus why they have Arabic names!
@@weisshalivniwine how dare you, the Israelis are Khazar frauds who have stolen the land from the real Israelites
@weisshalivniwine why doesn't Israel accept them as their own since they are the descendants of ancient israelites the 10 tribes of the North
@@truthseeker-nv6nyAs a Jew, I accept them. Some may not, but they are ignorant.
Fantastic documentary, very moving and so wonderful to meet Abood and Breeto virtually!!! I had the great pleasure of visiting Nablus and the Samaritan community in 2014 - it was an intense and beautiful experience for me to realize that we have these long-separated cousins in Palestine and sparked a real interest in learning more about the history and experience of the Samaritans. (And also nice to see one of my favorite restaurants in Israel, the Old Man & the Sea, featured...) I hope I can come back again someday when the pandemic is gone and visit again. I would love to spend more time and meet you for real!! Wishing you all the best ... and I hope Breeto found a Samaritan, Jewish, or even Ukrainian bride since 2018!! :-) Love to you all from Paris, France!
I feel so bad for those people , hope their population wont disapear , love from israeli jew
It's sad to see Breeto dislike his culture so much. He seems attracted to modern western culture, which isn't all it's cracked up to be. I think it's good to be tolerant and friendly toward other cultures, but there needs to be a very clear line that you don't cross if you want to preserve what you have.
The footage of the Passover sacrifice and feast was very interesting. The way it brought everyone together as a people is a beautiful thing.
I know what you mean, please understand Breeto doesn't hate the culture at all, in fact, he's known in the community to be one of the lovers of the sect's traditions and culture. he's simply frustrated a bit from the limitations that are forced on him from the community, it's also worth mentioning this was filmed 4 years ago, he changed to love the community much and it's members, and the mountain too.
@@AboodCohen That's good to hear.
Thanks for your comment
I’ve never disliked our culture, I’m known as one the best Fairies chants volunteer singers
I was in a lower level of consciousness and I’ve used to blame my Community and its traditions for the things that I couldn’t do
Now I became more conscious, and I’m working on my business, without letting any limits to stop me
I just fitted myself and my Ideas with our traditions
Thanks again 🙏🏻

This Documentary is wonderful 👍 First time I have seen like this ,vInam from India I also faith in Torah because I am Muslim from India. I am nowadays learning Hebrew language myself from RUclips videos. Please Pray for me . Thank you 👍
These people are Palestinian Samaritans, and Palestinian Muslims and Christians have Samaritan origins, but they converted to Islam and Christianity
But the Israeli occupation harasses the Samaritans
The Samaritans define themselves as Palestinians
We have no relationship with the converted European Khazar occupiers
You obviously a goof.I have genetic link to ancient Judeans, and have genetics to prove it, including my J1e Y chromosome. You and so called “Palestinians” have nothing. These “Palestinians,” at least 80% of them, have no connection to Samaritans, other than living in neighboring villages.
Many Palestinian villagers claim ancestral ties to Arab tribes from the Arabian Peninsula that settled in Palestine during or after the Arab conquest, while others trace their roots to Turkish, North African, Kurdish, Egyptian, and Turkman origins. Some Palestinian families, notably in the Hebron and Nablus regions, claim Jewish and Samaritan ancestry respectively, preserving associated cultural customs and traditions. They’re not the majority though
Such a fascinating documentary on a fascinating community.
It reminds me sometimes my paternal grands parents who were jews from the ottoman empire.
This is one of the best if not the best documentary I've ever watched.
Egyptian
Me gusta mucho ver sus documentales, amo ver donde esta el monte sagrado, amo ver la comunidad. Espero Shehmaa me permita estar ahí pronto.
Wonderfully made and directed! I love the ancient peoples. What talent you possess! You should seriously consider taking this film career all the way. Good job!
Thanks 😊, I didn't direct it I was just a character in documentary, would love make a new one ;)
Thank you so much for sharing your story with me/us, the world! I had no idea your people still existed! Of course we have our Biblical stories of the Good Samaritan, the Samaritan Woman, whose daughter needed healing from Jesus & the Samaritan Woman at the well. I’m Judeo-Christian & was taught that the Samaritan’s were very important people! For in Biblical days these Samaritan stories were given as examples of the Goyim or Non-Jewish Nations, Others,of whom we were basically descendants of! I find that even more fascinating in light of this story! Especially since you basically live in between the Israeli & the Palestinians. You hear plenty about them, but no one addresses your people’s plight in all this! What a wonderful gift you’ve given to the whole world! May our God Bless you, your family & your people forevermore!!! ❤ from Texas,USA
Fascinating film!❣️It was very interesting to learn about your culture. Thank you for sharing your life with us!
wonderful, you are the real israelites, god bless u and ur community. love from bahamas

Good Stuff Abood, I've been sending this video to a lot of my friends that are interested. If I go back to the Balad next summer I will definitely visit the Museum.
Hello my long lost brothers. It's been thousands of years
From what I had read, not all Israelites were deported to other parts of the Assyrian Empire when the Kingdom of Israel was annexed. Only the poorest were left behind to maintain local infrastructures. They then intermarried with settlers brought in from other parts of the Assyrian Empire. Their descendants became known as Samaritans. In a way, the Samaritans can be considered as living descendants of the 10 Lost Tribes of Israel. They retain and practice an ancient form of Israelite religion with many features no longer practiced by the Jews. According to Rabbinic Judaism, the Samaritans are descended from pagans who were resettled in Israel by the Assyrians and later converted to Jewish religion while retaining some pagan traditions. It seems to the Jews, the Samaritans are descended from pagans who converted to Israelite religion instead fellow descendants of the Israelites. The deported 10 Lost Tribes most likely ceased to exist as their descendants never retain their cultural identity and assimilated into local populations. In contrast, the Judean Jews retained their cultural identity during the captivity in Babylon while embracing local culture.
I had relatives I. My family in my Jewish side of the family who were Ashkenazi, that had well I had relatives who one girl from my great grandmother’s brother who had a daughter who was born deaf and I think such possibility could happen due the fact that Ashkenazi Jews earlier in their history married between cousins. We too have people born with birth defects and disabilities due to family/ cousin intermarriage.
Peace and everlasting growth of the Samaritan people!
Great documentary i wish to one day visit as someone who has a deep interest in history and religion your very brave people with a beauty that shines through with how the elders speak the way you just want peace the way you give hope.💛

The Samaritans would profit more if they continue to tell their history and study the "New Testament Gospel of John chapter 4 the story of the Good Samaritan". Moreover, they need more women to continue their population. Great video,,,
My israeli-american husband and I, a venezuelan Anousim going to a gyur, have been looking for the opportunity to visit your community.

Wow! Abood, I feel your struggles brother. But a very big challenge finding a good relationship, love and then a life partner in order to continue the generation.
Your friend made me laugh & emotional as well when he said "we live in a hole".
But you didn't tell us why there's no new converts into your fold. Or is that, that too is prohibited as well as living elsewhere?
I Long to visit Israel, and possibly see you guys.

Awesome! Enjoyed the learning about the Samaritan community. 👏❤️
me gustaría verlo con el idioma español.esta muy interesante.
It's been over 38 years since I was there. I lost touch to my roots. I'm not sure if my relative's are still alive. Family name is Tahan. I had to send money over there to purchase a sheep so I can feed the poor when my son was born and another time when my son was in the hospital for a week (almost lost him). I do not know the true meaning behind it. Why it's traditional to send money on certain occasional. Can you please explain it.
Truly fascinating. I hope as a people you grow
This authentic Babylonian costume is now worn in Syria, the Levant, and North Africa, as well as by the people of Baghdad and Mosul, but it is 100% Jewish and Aramean.
How about learning the Paleo-Hebrew or Samaritan Hebrew language? Any resources? I am studying Paleo-Hebrew and would really like your insight! Thank you!!
Fascinating!
Do Samaritans consider the tombs of the Patriarchs in Hebron to be a holy site? And what about Mamre, also in Hebron, where the three angels appeared to the prophet Abraham (Genesis 18)?

This is fascinating! Thanks Abood for the tour today on Amazon Explore. I learned a lot from you.
You're welcome! Thanks for joining :)
Is the word for Restorer "Taheb" originally a Hebrew, Aramaic or Arabic word?
I have a question. What do the Samaritans living on Mount Gerizim call the Holy Land as a whole? Do you all call it the Land of Israel, Palestine, or something else?
Does it depend on the context? Would the answer be different in a religious setting, or if you were in the company of Arabs, Jews, or fellow Samaritans?
I also want to know about it, but I think they openly say they are children of Israel like he was saying in the documentary
If I was opening up a Samaritan restaurant, I'd call it "The Really, Really, Good Samaritan", just to piss your friend off.
Are Jews allowed to visit? Do you have tourism from Israel or is it unsafe?
The good samaritan
Can Americans convert?
8:42 Why does is say ࠔࠅࠌࠓࠅࠍࠉ _šomroni_ instead of ࠔࠌࠓࠉ _šameri_ (not sure about vowel lengths and specific qualities)?
كنيسة ولا معبد 41:34 ؟!
Do the Samaritans believe that King Solomon had the actual Ark of the Covenant when he dedicated the Jerusalem Temple and that it was later returned to the Samaritans or do they believe the Ark was never removed from Mount Gerizim? It seems that as King, he had soldiers to take the Ark by force if needed. I can't imagine that Solomon would dedicate his Temple without the Ark. Do the Samaritans have an opinion on this?
They believe the Ark was copied
