However, Tesla found a loophole which allows them to sell cars on the Federal Tribal Lands at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville CT. I stopped in to see how things are going since their grand opening in December...

Got our Tesla at a Tesla location on a street with many other car dealerships. It was so quiet at the dealership next door, while Tesla was BUSTLING. A new Tesla driving out every minute! Tesla has streamlined the process. And it’s so exciting to see your name in your Tesla when you arrive to pick up your car!
B.S. Elon just screwed everyone who has bought one .... by lowering the prices bigtime which is going to totally screw up any used car market....and he's going to lower them a lot more because the blood bath is coming in 24 and 25. There are WAY too many manufacturers so the war will be quite awesome.
Great video. The worst part of getting a new car used to be haggling with a salesman at a dealership. I have purchased three Teslas online with no price changes, no wrangling, no pricy dealer "additions" and no problems. I would love to see more Tesla Service Centers because getting to one often involves traveling a distance. That is fine for test drives, but not so great when your car needs service. And I agree that keeping Tesla Centers out of states is wrong and foolish. It may even encourage a brand loyalty rather than discourage someone from buying a Tesla.
Tesla prices change all the time - they are going up $1000 in two weeks.
And they take preorders for vehicles which are not available for years (looking at you Roadster II).
They have such odd practices when it comes to financial disclosures and inventory.
Having said all of that - yes - car dealers are the worst. Negotiate on price then get wrung out on financing. It has been a win-win for the old dealership model and state attorneys have turned their backs on the customers which they are supposed to protect. Of course, going in armed with info is critical. Get your own bank rates and don't trade in the old vehicle but sell it to CarMax or one of those companies - that will uncouple the sale of your old car from the purchase of the new one and do not buy any op the last-minute options that they try to slip in on financing, getting a good price is only the first half of the deal.
Agreed, much-needed video. Having to deal with the insults and financial injuries of dealers should be a factor in anyone's decision on which car to buy. The two best things about Tesla: the Supercharger network and the relatively painless buying experience.
That’s a great loophole. Hopefully other manufacturers can get in on this for CT.
The Tesla staff at Mohegan Sun are very helpful and knowledgeable. I test drove a 2024 Tesla Model 3 at Mohegan Sun and I ordered a red 2024 Tesla Model 3 Long Range, AWD using the Tesla web site in late January. I expect to take delivery of that car in March. The experience was fantastic! Thank you Mohegan Sun and thank you Tesla!
A. Tesla needs to do this in Michigan.
B. All automakers need to do this everywhere. Crush the Stealerships!
That won't happen easily. The dealership will keep on pushing back along with their lobbyists until that can't push anymore.
It's absurd. I live in Austin near the Gigafactory pumping out Teslas but we can't buy one in Texas.
Hey Dave, as a fellow CT resident and as a repeat tesla owner i am so glad they opened this location to the public. Sadly i picked up my latest 2023 model 3 performance back in feb of last year and it was the drive of shame to Mt. kisco NY one last time to get it .. i have also been to the Mohegan Sun tesla show room a few times and I really wish they would showcase the cyber truck in there. it would draw crowds in my opinion. thanks for your video! Selling cars on 1st Nation lands is not a loop hole. It is simply going where the law is more favorable. It is a legitimate business practice that takes advantage of the legal framework and jurisdiction within those territories.
First... I also wanted to say thank you for assisting/instilling me with knowledge to aid in the transition to a BEV over the year. I just picked up my MYLR this month and Dave and the rest of the Out of Spec channels/crew has been a great resource.
I think it was absolutely brilliant for Mohegan and Tesla to partner up. I hope it becomes lucrative for both of them for years to come.
Dave, please do a follow up video and visit them on a Saturday when the weather warms up. We would love to see how things go. I also love that Tesla is able to exploit a loophole by opening up a store on tribal lands, providing them with much needed high tech jobs, and allowing citizens of Connecticut a place within their state to pick up their brand new Tesla.
What worse is some states like Virginia I believe. Where at First they didn't want Tesla to have dealerships, but then decided to limit it to a certain number. What sense does that make? You are either for it or against it. There isn't an in-between.
True. What Dave says is correct. The politicians are owned by lobbyists, not the citizens. The auto dealers' lobbyists essentially bribe the lawmakers.
simply change the laws to allow them to open showrooms and sell from them.
call your representative - but tesla has deep enough pockets if it is important for them, they could buy their own lawmakers.
I just bought a Tesla in VA without a problem. First time I hear about this.
From my technical analysis......I believe that telsa stocks will be over the roof soon.
Investor are buying more of the shares too at a very low price now.
Telsa is a very big move this 2024.
I test-drove a Model S here about a month ago. The hardest part was returning the vehicle, as the exact route into the parking area was not well marked at the time. I've been noticing for the past few weeks that inventory cars for the CT zip code are now showing as arriving at Mohegan Sun. BIG ISSUE with Mohegan Sun = Lack of usable chargers in the parking garage area. The very (very) few chargers the casino has are nearly always used or broken. Contrast this to MGM in Springfield, which, from day one, has had electric charges on every level of the MGM garage. One parking garage has been mapped out for chargers since before Christmas 2023, but it's still empty with no new chargers. Mohegan needs to do a lot better with their charging infrastructure.
I hope Tesla can put some public superchargers here. Would be a great location for them, especially if they install V4's to meet the demand of non-Tesla EV's that'll be using them too.
We do the same thing here in NY. Just got my model Y 2 weeks ago at the casino in UNY. I know they have Mt Kisco as well. What they need to do is change the laws. These laws are ridiculous and only add to the problem that makes EVs too expensive for many.
This was quite useful as Tesla owner in Connecticut. I bought mine in Texas and then moved here so I haven't had to deal with this yet. CT is quite EV friendly so I'm surprised there are issues here. Glad Tesla seems to have found a work around.

I checked with CT Cheapr that you can still get the CT 2250 rebate even if you take delivery in mt kisco. Also, I checked with Tesla, and they said you can’t get an in stock inventory Tesla at the casino. So New York is still probably a good option for CT residents in the western half of the state.

A Tesla service center and showroom site plan in Londonderry, NH has been approved. I stopped by Londonderry's Town Hall today and was told that Tesla site plan has been approved. I( 50,000 sqft) This particular site is in very close proximity to Manchester Airport. I've been waiting for Tesla to come to New Hampshire before I went ahead with a purchase. I'm one step closer to an "S".
Hope Tesla can do this in Wisconsin as well!

I'm pretty sure the Mohegans would dispute your idea that their land is federal land. It is a sovereign nation, which is why they don't comply with state law.

Residents of CT pay tax sales for ev and they are forced not to buy all the car they want in their state.

I bought my '24 Model Y 2 weeks ago via the Tesla website, picked it up last weekend at the Tesla Store in OKC. Easiest car buying experience I've ever had.
Just took Avelo. To me, worst airline experience ever. I flew on Sunday, it’s now Thursday, and I am still reeling from motion sickness from the flight. It is cheap, but not comfortable and not a smooth flight. For anyone that gets motion sickness badly, don’t fly Avelo. For travelers that don’t get motion sickness, you’ll be fine and save money.
I was told Tesla uses a reservation in New Mexico because of similar restrictions on that state.
Yes, they do. Sucks that they have to do this, but love that they're exploiting a loophole to make it easier for the citizens of New Mexico to pick up their Tesla in their state.

I can't speak for tribal land, but there is a Tesla store near downtown OKC. Between the dealer lobby and the oil lobby, I am surprised to see a store here.
I know they did this in New Mexico as well. Good. I don’t own a Tesla, I drive an Ioniq 5, but I hate stealerships. Salesman can go away IMO and we can have the showrooms and service centers. I know some say that just give money to Elon, but I’d rather support the manufacturers where at least some of that money goes into bettering the product, instead of supporting large dealer groups that do nothing but skim money from the consumer.

Strikes me there could be a constitutional issue here ... interstate commerce is the purview of the Federal government.
The tribal land is considered an autonomous region within the state. So they are exempt from having to strictly follow CT state laws regarding a car being sold here. CT still gets their tax/title/registration fees, so I'm not sure what the problem here is, other than the middleman dealers don't get their cut from Tesla.
@@Geckogold It's not about Tesla operating on tribal land. It's about whether states can prohibit Tesla's operations at all since Tesla is a national firm engaging in interstate commerce.

Dave, are you and your son right up there with Elon in Tesla management? I've never seen two youtubers go head over heel so much for Tesla as the Out of Spec channels. you guys never once point out the bad side of Tesla cars, and Tesla company. So many other channels have used the term “bumpy” to describe the ride. Not once have you or your son ever mentioned it! And how about Tesla car depreciation? Because there’s no dealers, there’s no dealers for Elon to dump on and there’s been a huge price drop. Great for new buyers, but not so good for already owners. Try trading one in. you never mention it in all the cars you trade in. But it’s a known fact. Trade in values for Tesla cars is low… low! How about the fact that the el cheapo Model 3 is no longer viable for the federal tax credit…
