What a stunning instrument. No wonder you loved it on sight. Plus, the wonderful global-ness of a Japanese instrument being played by a British player, and performing New York New York!
I think about stuff like that all the time. I'm glad I'm not the only one
What a lovely story Alex. Enjoyed watching that very much. Thank you for sharing. It's a stunning Uke .. of course, you don't need me to tell you that.
Such a lovely balanced and sweet sound. The looks may not be to everybody’s taste, but for me it has everything I like in a Uke. It seems like this Sumi was always destined to be yours. Congratulations!
Thanks 😊
Such a stunning instrument…thanks for sharing it with us Alex!
A beautiful instrument, Alex. I’m glad you purchased it. If you’re like me, instruments are like treasured friends. While I have several expensive guitars, I have an early 70s Yamaha guitar that cost me a whole $139 (with hard case). I can’t give it up... 😱
That instrument is perfection. Congratulations on finally getting it. It was meant for you :)
Thank you so much.
I dont have enough knowledge or played the big brands to say whats "best", but that really could be my ideal of the perfect ukelele sound, just beautiful!!
Thanks Alex for making these videos
I like that a uke can travel between players. In time it will go to someone else.
I’m impressed that you supported Feeder! I’ve been listening too/playing Buck Rogers absolutely loads this year
It’s stunning, most beautiful uke in the world. It was meant to be yours
Thanks so much
First of all I loved to be as good of a player as you are, 2nd the sound of that ukulele is unique and I love it
Very kind, thanks a lot.
This is a beautiful story. It was meant to be! This stunning uke is the perfect partner to your skill Alex, it's great to see you together on this channel :)
Aww, thanks so much
It's not difficult falling in love with that exquisite Uke and a great story too. Thanks very much for sharing this Alex, take care.🎸🎶❤️
Great story, Alex...you two were destined to be together LOL! Beautiful instrument, thank you for sharing it.
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing Alex. I have a question for a future vid, if you're interested...how did you get introduced to playing ukulele, and are you self taught? Cheers and thanks again.
Very good questions!
Really beautiful uke, fabulous sound, inspiring story. (Love the pineapple sopranino I bought recently, by the way). Best wishes.
Wow what a beautiful looking and sounding instrument Alex you must be so proud to own it ,the look on your face says it all 🥰 what string have you got on it it .
I am currently using Fremont Blackline with a D'addario BEB031W low G.
I also like using the thomastik CF30 as a low G with Worth Browns 🙂
I can't sleep anymore.
Ok... Sorry to hear that.
Try not having caffeine after midday 👍
The sound is just supberb
Loved your story Alex. I can very much identify with not being at all flashy in every day life but being prepared to pay for an exquisite instrument that brings so much joy and satisfaction! Now here's a question - how many ukes have you owned in total over the years and how many do you own now? (Just trying to justify my own UAS 😀)
I've just sat and worked it out - great question by the way I love asking my customers stuff like this.
I have owned approximately 80 different guitars as I did lots of buying and selling between 2012-2018. Ukes not nearly as intense... I reckon I can list everything I've owned in the past here.
Cursley Yew Tenor (a Bournemouth builder)
Beltona Resonator
KoAloha KCM-10 (one of my first Ukes and one I often wish I'd kept).
KoAloha KCM-00 (early 90's one)
KoAloha KTM-00
Kanile'a GL6 (I've owned a couple of these for jobs but I don't really play guitalele for fun so move them on when I don't need them)
Kanile'a K-1 Tenor
Kanile'a SUS-T (still have this)
Kanile'a Manako (still have this)
Kamaka HF-2 (not really a Kamaka guy but this one was superb)
Imua Spruce Concert (probably the best Concert ukulele ever made and I sold it twice!)
Lo Prinzi Long Neck Concert (still have this)
Bird on a Wire Shearwater (sold recently)
Eastman Tenor (just purchased)
Millar SP240W (just purchased)
On my dream list of Ukuleles although financially I could never justify them - an old Kiwaya KTS-7 or KTS-4
Some kind of Howlett as I have quite a nice personal relationship with Pete Howlett going back 10 years and it would be nice to show him I believe in his work.
Sumi Kobo Hummingbird uke... problem with this is that I could never afford it, I would need to custom order it and even if I did he is an elderly man who can pick and choose what he does and I can't imagine a left handed man from England would really inspire him to put a few hundred hours in 😅
What about you? I'd love to know...
@@UkesWithAlex Wow, great answer! 80 different guitars!!??
I'm only about 3 years into my ukulele journey so my list is nowhere near as impressive as yours but here it is:
Kala exotic mahogany concert (sold)
Kala KA-ASAC-T (sold)
Kala aged cedar top concert (sold)
(Decided I don't like kalas 😂)
Martin C1K (sold)
Kremona Mari tenor (sold)
Kanile'a SUS-T (still own)
Islander SAT4 (still own)
KoAloha KTO-10 (still own)
Kiwaya KSU-1L (still own)
Flight victoria tenor (sent back)
aNueNue AMM-3 (still own)
Flight Leia tenor (still own)
Forest ukes FUZZ-S (Just ordered)
Also got my eyes on a kiwaya kpt-1k (wish I could justify the extra grand for a 5k - but I really can't!!)
Don't think I've ever written my list out like that - it's bigger than I realised! I think I need to calm down and just do more playing 😂🤣🤙
Very nice one Alex, so beautiful and sounds amazing, what strings do u currently use on it and with what strings it came from the manufacturer?
Just curious
I couldn't tell you what it had on from new but I suspect it was Worth clears as other Sumis I have seen had these on from new.
Thank you!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Alex, this is Tony, you know I'm on the hunt for the right strings so the question is, what are you playing?
On this uke right now I have Fremont Blackline with a D'addario BEB031W
I find darker Flurocarbon works better on this uke. On my Kanile'as I almost always use a tight clear Fluorocarbon string like Martin, DR, Worth etc with a bronze wound low G of some sort.
I soo envy you I would just love to buy one do you have any in stock Yvonne Doherty
No, Eiichi Sumi builds very few Ukes but we will be getting at least two more in the next 3-4 months. You are best off contacting the shop at alex@ukulele.co.uk and asking to be put on a waiting list. There is almost always one or two people on the hunt for one and we get maybe 3 every 2 years.
