And again I love how the Miata comes up from time to time!
You rock man. Great video, even better exhaust sounds. Yeahhhhhhh
Nice review man. Love the content
Way cool. Very smart, fun review. I'm looking at a 2002 Mini with 77k miles on it today and you've lofted me beyond my concerns about their infamous unreliability. I won't be using it daily as a commute car so maybe even that is OK. Buy a Mini and be sure to have the best road-side assistance insurance you can get.
This is an excellent review. Well done bro! 100K Followers you will achieve for sure! Going GOLD YO!
After watching this, made me wanna buy my own freaking Mini Cooper S. 👍🏻 great job man.
Got a 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible. Funnest car I've ever owned.
I still drive my 2002 "S" and still love it like the day I bought it. Been meticulously maintained by a friend who has a Mini shop but used to work at the dealership. Mileage: Close to 250 K. Tight, great body structure and everything you describe about the car is right on. Plan to hang on to it together with my classic BMW R65 motorcycle with only 12,000 miles. These are keepers. Thanks for this great video.
Wow, that mileage is amazing. I have just bought a 2001 with 90,000 miles. Haven't had it checked out yet but have a feeling repairs are going to cost a fortune
@@debbiepeter112 I did not realize the 2001 already had the new "retro" body style. Yes I have put quite a bit on maintenance as expected of a first model year car. But as I said, fortunately I have someone who has been taking care of it mechanically. Keeping it looking good is my responsibility. Have fun with yours and I hope you find someone who knows the car and just not any "mechanic" or even to the extent of saying, I never trusted not even the dealership as they have done things that my service friend found were out of line and unnecessary. Be careful.
@@gaerlan1946 I have looked into the car history and it was one of tbe earlier BMW Minis built in 2001. It's actually my 5th Mini but the earliest model I have had. I actually use a really good mobile mechanic. Have used him for a while. I trust him. If something doesn't need doing he tells me not to bother with fixing it. He looked after 2 of my previous Minis as well. Wouldnt trust anyone else. Learnt my lesson when the clutch went while he was on holiday. Took it to another garage who "fixed" it. I knew straight away something was wrong. Got my mechanic to check as soon as he was available again and they fitted the wrong clutch and so caused more damage to various other components as well. He had to replace everything again plus more parts on top. Luckily I got my money back from the first garage after threatening to take them to court. But yes, I know what you mean. I really wish I was more confident to sort things out for myself since these cars are so expensive to maintain/repair.
@@debbiepeter112 I am sorry it happened. But in spite of the maintenance I have put in it, I would not trade this for any other small car out in the market. And now I find out (RUclips) that stick shifts or manual transmissions are almost getting extinct. I have a 6-speed and it is a joy to drive and having the sense of control. My car plate says "Mini Fun". People have asked me if I wanted to sell it. It has pretty much been "de-bugged" so to speak. There has been less and less issues now. By the way, the car in video is exactly the color of mine other than I took the Dark Silver color all the way, including roof.
@@gaerlan1946 I love these cars. Well, I have owned 5 so I must do. My current one is red with white alloys and white roof and mirrors. Looks really nice. Its getting a health check on tuesday so I am hoping it doesnt have too many things wrong with it. I have joined Y-register club. It's for all Mini owners of 2001 Plate Minis . Hoping I can get advice from them as wel as I dont know anyone else who likes them (my brother hates them ). Thinks I should be driving am electrical car or one with a tiny engine. Talk about spoiling my fun!!!
You are right the Mini is a ball to drive.
I have a base 2002 and it is a little sluggish in first gear and going into early 2nd gear put it takes off at about 2500 rpm and just goes after that into 3,4 and 5 gear and the next thing you know you're going 75 mph. And does it handle like a dream
You may not like the door handles but I love them
Do these years have lighting in the door?
The bonnet release is on the right hand side because the car was designed by Rover in the late 1990s to be mainly sold in the UK, BMW had global aspirations for the car, but the design had already been approved.
So they moved the steering wheel and pedals, but couldn't quite figure it out for the hood latch?

Good review good content
I'm guessing the 16yo car doesn't have the original clutch? How the heck do you toggle through the info on the tach readout at 2:40? The '02 MINI is a few inches shorter than the 2-seat CRX I had prior; small on the outside, surprisingly roomy inside.
Very good review. Good expression of feelings. In my Mini it is very hard to switch :(
Well said and very well narrated great video, subscribe.
i just got an ‘06 mcs and the clutch is super light. bare in mind ive only owned/ driven a handful of manual cars (ford ranger, focus st, mcs) all four bangers. so not sure if i may need to service it soon.
so i went and drove my focus st and have to say the MCS is actually very heavy in comparison.
What are those wheels? What size and width?
Love my ‘02 Cooper S.
just bought a 2003, did you get a lot of issues with it?
Im getting a mini as my first car what year should i get between 2001-2006
Murat Unver these cars are full of issues. Lol but I still love it. When I first bought the car I took it apart and replaced everything I possibly could so nothing would go breaking later. I did all water pump, alternator (gave up unexpectedly) battery, all the oil seals (there’s a lot) even after that I ran into injector o-ring leak, and radiator leak.
BlackHoundAirsoft between ‘01-‘06 i would just go for whatever best fits my budget and mileage situation. Ofcourse a little bit newer would be better, but also how the previous owner took care of it.
Where do i turn on rear wiper 🙆
2001-2006 super 2007+ turbo with one of the tiniest turbos ever... that still lags till 2500rpm but dies off at 5500 because eco fuel maps
single best part about those cars other than the economy is the fact that tall guys like me can fit in them (I'm 6'10 at full height, about 6'6 normally, all torso w/ scoliosis)
I have a 330i never drove a cooper / might have to try it I bet it’s fun 🇨🇦✌️
E46 is my dream car.. I ended up buying a cooper s (supercharged) for the sound, front wheel drive and just fun to drive a kart like that
here cause I saw one on fb for sale...wanna by a manual for my kids to learn
What mods
I heard that the hood latch was left on the passenger side because they didn't feel like switching the latch to the other side of the car
the bonnet latch thing is irrelevant to the car being LHD and RHD , i live in australia and this exact year and model cooper s that comes out as RHD here has the bonnet latch on the passenger side on the Left. so they dont not move it due to being lazy they just designed it that way lol.
It's because it's a "rally car"
Navigator would be pulling it lol
It's because Mini main market is in the UK and driver sits on tbe right.
This was a fair review... Thanks man
Heavy clutch could be bad clutch bearing! I replaced mine and much lighter now.
sweeeeet ride
There's a racing series in Scotland at knockhill that the SMRC run just for Cooper S's, and those cars are stupid quick round the hill. They're so fucking loud as well, it's not uncommon for them to fail scrutineering on noise levels that they then have to go fiddle with them to get them through. I like the idea of the Cooper S, but I drove one of the standard Coopers and didn't like it all that much, much preferred my Puma.
If you could choose between a 2002 mini cooper and a 2005 always in S model which one would you buy? I don't know much about minicooper but if I want to buy one :v
2005
These cars are fun. Used to have one and it made all the right sounds, feels. Loved it and it is super spacious, being 6'7" I fit very comfortably. The clutch is dumb heavy tho, car makes very little torque but the horsepower is very nice linear and revs fast. SUPERCHARGER WHINE
Cool I am also tall and I was wondering if I could fit comfortably.
Yep, the clutch is a PITA, but damn it's a fun car!
no torque, mine torque steers like a bitch through the gears hard to keep it in a straight line
Very little torque? You must be joking
@@liecron sounds like you had worn out silent blocks on the front control arms. When these are worn and you're pulling the front tires shift forwards unevenly as the semi-axles are uneven in lenght, front left is usually the one pulling the most making the car power steer to the right.
4:10 its there because is a rally car
Want a Mini Cooper S, 1gen whith blower😁😁
Modern cars have too many electronics and they will constantly give you warnings and sensors and problems. Especially Germans. This mini is still simple and mechanical regardless of being a BMW.
Reprogram car computer and throw away devices not needed
I think your mini was converted from british to US or EU...
🐚
Obviously you have never driven a Camaro or Corvette... unless this guy has like a stage 4 or 5 racing clutch (which it doesnt seem he does because of the smooth shifts) the clutch is no where near as heavy as one of those cars... go test a Camaro or vette and get back to us on that statement. 👍👍👍
Modern day Minis are rubbish. Sorry if you disagree. I love my 2002 Mini, I have owned new ones and hated it. Always go back to 1st Gens.
Heard that a lot.. reliability wise I heard it too.
I don't know about actual maintenance but once you get the hang of it... the 1st gen is one to work on
2002 ...old? They stopped making the classic mini in 2000
@@Scale_Slotcars_Latvia Not talking about classic Mini though
These cars are garbage
