Don't forget when you ears get plugged. THE WORST EVRRR. But I so get the part of when you bring a book but you're torn on reading or writing. My Sister and friends always say "Why do you bring books when you're not going to read them now?" THE COMFORT, THE COMFORT of knowing that your 400 page baby that almost cost $20 is with you! ha went a little dramatic

    @allisonsijgers4069 7 лет назад

Hey Jesse! I travel a good bit, and also have struggled with annoying people and sounds around me. A few suggestions to help you feel productive reading, or to just be able to relax and read.
-If you want insure reading on the plane, bring either a book you are already engrossed in, or a trusty reread. For the engrossed book, if you can hold off until you get to the airport, you will be able to read and be productive throughout your journey since you will be desperate to finish. In regards to the reread, I have designated "travel books" that I take on every vacation with me. I have one for long car rides (The Wrath and The Dawn) and then one for airplanes (The Kiss of Deception). This book should be something you are comfortable with, and that you enjoy reading every time. This way it can help you get into the reading mood.
-Headphones are an absolute must. If you don't usually listen to music while reading it can take time to get used to (practice at home- it'll be worth it), but once you are able to have light background music to focus on it will take you away from the people annoying you. I usually use a trustworthy movie score(HP or Theory of Everything), and let the music match the emotions present in the book. Listen with only one headphone if you are worried about announcements.
-Finally, Be That Person. I know you have said that you are shy outside of your videos so this might be a little uncomfortable, but ask others to quiet down. Tell the lady she is listening to her book 50 Shades too loud. They might be a little bothered, but you will become a hero for others on the plane or in the area!
I hope these suggestions are helpful!

I will say I tend to read less while traveling but I read whenever I can. I love ebooks so I always have my entire library with me. I also try to pick something light and fun while traveling since focus isn't always the easiest thing with everything happening around you. There are certain books that I will see and remember my trip because I read them on a vacation. Those make me happy. I would also recommend audiobooks (I see many other commenters suggesting that) for when you can't concentrate with all the distractions around you. I usually end up playing a mindless game on my tablet while I listen. Keeps me focused. For the most part though, I travel to experience the world so it's okay for reading to take a back seat. I limit reading to poolside or bedtime. :)

I'm always listening to music when I'm traveling :D it helps alot with annoying situations! (it also helps that I'm reading books in english, not in my native tongue, which makes reading in trains way easier because I can just blend out my native tongue and don't get confused while reading!)

I have honestly just accepted that I won't read while travelling or on vacation. On the plane I'm too excited to get to the destination to focus on a book, and at the vacation spot I want to do as many activities/immerse myself in the culture as possible. Might bring a kindle with a few ebooks on it if I get the urge to read before bed there, but other than that no reading until I'm back home!

I dont have any problem reading at the airport or in the plain (except when there's a constant noise ). But when I reach my destination I usually read. I always find time for reading obviously 💁. For one - it made me really happy when you picked up Cinder, just as a prop. I'm a bit obsessed.
Two: I travel a lot. I live on one side of America and go to college on the other. I can't remember a time I didn't like reading on planes. I find this funny because growing up I read all the time including in cars by the light of street lamps and now reading in moving vehicles makes me motion sick. But not planes. I am a physical copy kind of girl and so I'll bring about three books in my personal item, the one that goes under the chair and you still have access to. And as for reading during vacation, I feel no guilt.

  • @Nicoleeeeeeee8
    @Nicoleeeeeeee8 7 лет назад

Luckily I can read almost everywhere. No matter the situation. I just get completely absorbed in my book and ignore the people around me which is a good skill to have as an introvert. Sometimes I even read while walking, although I almost got run over by a car once so I started being more careful with that..
The only place I struggle with reading is on a plane, because I'm super afraid of flying, but even then it just takes me more time to get into the book.
The struggle of choosing which books to take with me to read is so real though. Very relatable.

I just have to share my most ridiculous travel story after watching this video! I was on a flight from LA to NYC (which is a long flight!) and I was sitting in the aisle. I pulled out my book as soon as I boarded and started reading. There were two guys next to me who clearly were friends and then the guy in the middle seat asked me if I wanted to switch seats because he wanted to sleep and his friend wanted to talk to someone for the whole flight so I was like obviously no, I'm clearly reading and why would I ever move to a middle seat from an aisle? So I go back to my book. Then the guy is like what are you reading so I tell him and he asks me if I have an extra book so he can read too! I was like is this for real?! I was so shocked that I actually let him borrow an extra book because I didn't even know how to respond. It was so crazy!

I don't carry any books from home with me, the main reason is because there are bookstores everywhere, I always end up bringing home at least one book. I pack those books in my suitcase, but there is usually another bookstore at the airport where I get my book for the plane. The bookstores at the airports usually have those smaller paperback editions so they're easier to carry around. Latest one I've got was The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen and it's 600 or more pages book, and it was superlight and supertiny, still fits in any bag I have!
Speaking of taking notes, carry a tiny pencil, like the ones you get at the IKEA, and lightly underline the quote or write next to it, once you put it in your notebook, just erase it. If you're not really a fan of a pencil or if you are simply scared that you'll damage the book while trying to write in it, carry a pack of post-it papers and write on them and simply stick them in the book until you get to your notebook and write it down in better enviroment.
I don't have problems with the noisy surrounding, but I'd advise you to carry ear plugs or even earphones so you can listen to music (I don't know if you have problems with multitasking - listening to music while reading a book).
I hope this was helpful! I love your chanel a lot and merry Christmas!

This was funny. When I was younger I was JUST like this. I used to bring books traveling with me and have a hard time reading them. Eventually, I got good at reading at the airport and plane with all the commotion, but I NEVER got to the other books besides the first one. The reading kind of stopped once I landed in my destination and I learned from that. Its better to leave the books home and experience your new surroundings. You don't need to read every second that you have a moment. Observe the people around you, the atmosphere, just take a quiet moment for yourself when you are doing absolutely nothing, even if it is chaos all around you.

I went to Ireland with my family and I had some problems.
    1) We had to drive for 2 hours and I read the whole time and the moment we drive into the parking lot of the museum, I get to the most important and intense part and the next 3 hours I suffered and tried to be interested in planes.
    2) This time we hade driven for half an hour and then I suddenly get very VERY sick. I tried to focus on the road after but my little siblings were talking so loud and I told them (trying to hold everything inside me, still inside me): "if you don't want to get thrown up on, i recommend you to shut up". Luckily my parents pulled over and I sat on a rock for 10 minutes and tried to not vomit all over everything. I hate vomiting, I'd do anything to avoid it.
    3) Ireland has some damn good bookstores and I brought back 4 books which didn't fit in my suitcase so I had to put them in my brothers suitcase.
But it was a fun trip overall.

I traveled to the UK for two weeks at the end of May last year and brought about 3-4 books with me. I don't know why I thought I would actually have time to sit and read at all. I mean there were days we traveled in a bus or on a train for hours and I could have read but basically the exact reasons you explained in the video I couldn't even think about trying to read. Somehow my friend managed to read two books though!

I initially started listening to audiobooks for a lot of these same problems so they're my goto on the plane. Then I have a minimum 2-3 books for my time at the destination even if it's only for a day or two. At the very least I'll read a page or two before I fall asleep after having my own adventure.

I tend to lison to audiobooks at school. And I end up isolating myself in a corner outside the lunch room, because everywhere else is WAY too loud.I feel your pain

I don’t read in the plane or the car when I travel because I watch movies on my phone, but last summer I went to Montreal and walked around and explored a lot, but I also had downtime to read. That’s how I read It in a week.

ha, traveling is one of the times ive got no problem reading. and thats either bus, train or plane. though it might have something to do with the fact that if i have my own music on i dont hear any sounds around me and i can tune my own songs out and just be completly focused on my book.

I only bring a couple of books. I have read in a hotel a couple of times, but I don't get much reading done either. When I travel, most of the time, I don't bother to bring anything because I know I won't have time.

Headphones and listening to soundtracks - my way to focus on reading in public with noise!

For me audiobooks work great when travelling (or even using public transport), because you have your headphones in you generally don't hear all the annoying noises, you don't have the struggle of trying not to hit people with your elbows (or any other limited space struggles), and when you have to walk around a lot, you don't have to close the book and stop but you can keep reading (and pressing play or stop on your phone is way easier than taking the book out of your carry-on, flipping it open, finding your place and then putting in the bookmark and putting the book back in the carry-on). I do usually take physical books with me as well just in case I actually get the opportunity to read it without all the struggles, but sometimes I can't read it (I get carsick :/)

Yes, yes, yes! I've tried listening to audio books, especially since they don't cause motion sickness like kindles or physical books but I JUST CRAVE PHYSICAL BOOKS! It adds to the whole reading experience:) and I like owning the original copies I read the book for the first time with. It just makes my love for the book that much more sentimental! (And that story about the lady listening to 50 Shades out loud! 😂😳 I can't imagine. Haha!)

I love all these new videos!! I've been on a plane or let alone stepped foot into an airport so I don't know how I would go reading on a plane. However, I can't read while in the car or on the bus, it makes me feel sick and gives me headaches. I have tried listening to audiobooks but I can never seem to find one that is any good.

Same! But I walk with my book in hand so I can read in lines and stuff. On my last flight I had the screaming baby/toddler next to me. The mum ignored it so I just started reading out loud, but very quetly and thenkid stopped screaming! Yess✌

I listen to music while I am reading at the airport/airplane because I'm able to zone the music out pretty well and the music is zoning out the people. It usually works for me.

I travel a lot by bus and I find that if you bring a portable cd player and some cds, I can usually get some reading done. However, sometimes traveling will make me tired, because I've been very early and I wind up sleeping instead of reading .

during vacation and in public transport are lately the only place where I read a lot... it is where I do most of my reading... and it is mostly because I don't have any distractions at all from electronics (cause that keeps me away from reading actual books, cause I always read my fanfiction otherwise)... So I do indeed have mastered the skill of reading in public.. YES!!:P

Audiobooks with some noise cancelling headphones are the way to go on an airplane. I turn up the speed, so I don't get bored and then play candy crush or a coloring app or just close my eyes. And yeah, once I get to my destination I never read as much as I do at home.
