ER vet tech here, please make sure you always wrap from the bottom of the foot and up. Wrapping from top to bottom or not covering that whole foot can cut off circulation to their toes

I had a dog break her leg stepping on rocks used as flower bed border. Still can't imagine how.
Get well soon Blue. You did great Maria, that was an A1 field dressing, keep the wound clean, wrap it for three days for it to scab over and a week later Blue will be back to being Blue. Great job Maria

Edited to add: People, a basic cut doesn't require a vet, just like you don't run to the doctor for a small cut on your hand. A deep cut, really large cut, cut that won't stop bleeding or cut that's infected needs a vet. Maria is a great dog mom and she knows Blue probably better than she knows herself. If he needed a vet, she would take him. Y'all can't even see the freaking cut but you're already insinuating she's not taking care of him properly. Don't do moms like that, doggie or human.

Couple things i always carry in my backpack is super glue & duck tape. If supper glue doesn't stop the bleeding then i use duck tape. God bless blues little 💙

Oh poor Blue! My dog had the same and I had to keep it wrapped for a couple days, tons of Neosporin that stuff is the bomb and takes away the pain really fast. All the best cutie Blue and Maria too!

Growing up my family always had dogs, so when I first moved out it wasn't long until I rescued my dog. Now we are coming up on the two year anniversary of his gotcha day and I could not imagine my life without him. I prioritize him over anything else and luckily we've made it this long without any injuries or health issues.
Blue is lucky to have a mom like you who will pack up everything and move to a new spot to keep him safe. The world needs more caring dog moms like you! I hope the rest of your week is less eventful but filled with spectacular views.

Blue seems to be doing fine. You cleaned it out and that was the best thing and It's probably best you took the wrap off because more than likely he would have chewed at it until it came off and could have made that cut worse. He will be fine but that wont stop you from worrying, cant help it. Thanks fir sharing the video. You always have the best views and drone shots.

Just keep it (the pad) clean and apply antiseptic cream, It can take up to three weeks to heal fully.
and now the hard bit ! Try to NOT let him lick it.

I have 2 rescues...Charlie Brown has been with me 16 years and is my baby boy, he's also my hunny bunny, my confidante, my big lion, no kidding, he looks like a lion...Sheba has been with me for about 7 months, she came from a horrible situation and is my baby girl, Sheba Deeba, love dovie....
They make spray bottle peroxide which really comes in handy.I have an English Bulldog, Thelma. Hope he heals quickly.
If you cut the toe off of a sock you can try to put it over his bandage.

Aww poor Blue. Just cleaning it, putting the salve on it and bandage up to make sure no bugs get at it that will do it. Yea, I said bugs. He’ll be alright. It happens. Just from now on keep his little shoes on as soon as he goes out the car. Those rocks are meanies. He’s just acting like it’s bothering him after the wrap because that’s what they do. He’s gonna try to rip it off too. That’s just their deal but at least until it scabs or dries up being in the wilderness he should have it covered so he’s not licking it and the bugs you know. You did good!

If it really bothered him, would think he would be trying to tear it off. I hope you got some sleep that night, saying because as I posted yesterday that my dog has to have surgery ( it's to remove a growth on his leg) he licks it incessantly at night which drives me nuts. Constant licking can just irritate the area more & more and prevent healing. If he does start chewing on it, fortunately for front legs inflatable collars rather than cones can work. Something as simple as a 'necklace' made of a cut up inexpensive pool noodles may work.

A dogs lick has more healing properties then the ointment you put on him. That's why when a dog gets hurt, they lick their wounds. That's how they heal. And if you keep a wound bandaged up more, then it takes a lot more time to heal. Let it be exposed to air. That way a wound heals faster.
With all do respect this comment is exactly why people shouldn't always believe what they read on the internet. Dogs lick when there is discomfort it's their way of saying "hey something hurts or doesn't feel right". A dog's mouth is not clean at all. Think about it they lick their butts & private areas along with random things they find. You want to keep the wound clean & covered up to prevent it from getting infected.

A spiral wrap works well for the limbs. Less risk of cutting the circulation off.

my dog cut the inside of her paw pad and couldn’t do much but definitely sucks to see your go in pain. and my dogs back leg was hurting her, not sure what the problem was but luckily i though to wrap it and it helped

On your travel stop off at tractor supply and get the horse rap itself adhesive stick to itself and you can pick other stuff up there while you're at it 🙏🙏🙏

There's a product called blue coat that farmers use on livestock, horses,chickens ect it coats would to keep dirt out,might be worth checking into
Maybe add baby socks to cover paws when paws get hurt. Just a thought😍

Also I did take Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries in high school… All the testing was wrapping foot injuries. You wrapped it WAAAAAY too tightly... it only gets tighter as he stands on it.

Those cones can be expensive but they would work. Was thinking the same thing. Would a Vet sell one without seeing the dog?

I heard that they (dogs) have a enzyme in their mouths that promote healing which is why they lick a wound so much .

I was going to reach out to everybody in this situation to try and help you all but the last girl on her video said, and to me this is crazy...she said, "I have a boyfriend.". This stop me cold from helping everybody because what you guys don't understand is when you're in these types of situations...

I came super close to being homeless...by about 3 minutes to be exact.
My sister kick me out and right before i walk out the door my nephew called and set me up with a spot. If he would have called 3 minutes later, I would have been on the streets. So, I feel for them... you know.

Ditto. He’s kind’ve the same! He’s not limping anymore and I’m just keeping an eye on it and wrapping when needed to avoid infection. Otherwise it’s open to air.

You didn’t give it time to heal maybe when he’s sleeping then in the daytime when you are up with him let it air out you don’t want dirt to get into it and get it in infected
Didn't you have those little shoes for him..put one on that injured foot...I would keep it cleaned and wrapped every day..You don't want it to get infected I would keep a eye on it..
Unfortunately those shoes tighten on the same location his injury is!
