I thought people would think I was so weird for pretty much wanting to be, what would have been considered then homeless. Turns out my entire generation was thinking the same thing!!
After my dad died, I inherited his Suzuki 4x4 Sport and drove to the West Coast looking for work. Ended up living out of it, camping by waterfalls, rivers, lakes, beaches, in grand forests. I had a good time that year, but it was challenging at times. Once I got used to it all, it was very liberating!
@@vicp8772 I agree a 100% back especially in 50s-60s Families had station wagons to Current the family around Seems like a lot of people nowadays seem like they need more and therefore station wagons would be perfect for people or four doors but a lot of people think that having those cars means you have money when in fact that is not true because back in the 50s and 60s especially even before a lot of people had those cars weren’t very rich they were just families That needed those vehicles and they could get them real cheap brand new from the dealer because back then the prices for a car were cheaper than what it is today And not to mention that those vehicles were built with more quality
@@vicp8772 Sad and I hate to say it but I feel that nowadays a lot of people judge a book by its cover and value you on the items that you own If you are on a four-door car you’re probably rich and if you don’t want to four-door car just a two door car you’re not very rich and if you have outdated furnishings you’re most likely not rich but if you have prayer new items that means you probably are worth quite a bit of money which often times cannot be true because there are some people that are very rich but make enough money to survive and are able to buy themselves a new TV in certain new items for their living room and other rooms and they’re not rich they just want new stuff

Just an FYI: There's been a rash of catalytic converter theft on Prius because of the precious metals, platinum, palladium, and rhodium. The thieves can get anywhere from $375 to $850 or more per converter from scrap dealers but to replace a converter will cost you approx. $2,500. Some people have resorted putting aluminum plate as a barrier to discourage would be thieves.
Heard about that. I too have a 2 gen prius. I hope no one steals my cat. Won't lie, I have driven almost everything... Prius 2 Gen is the best car of all time... No doubt in my mind.
Catalytic converter was stolen from my 2007 Prius last summer while it was being serviced at Americas Tire. Not only did it cost almost $3000 to replace, we had to wait 2 months to get the replacement parts. After getting it fixed, we added a Cat Security shield getcatsecurity.com . According to the local news, the situation is getting even worse and Prius 2nd gen are especially vulnerable due to the design of the exhaust system. Lifting the Prius by 1.5" probably makes it even easier to get underneath the vehicle.

Next time I do a big hike I’ll explain all the items!:-) Hikinf shoe wise they’re all different based on your foot, I recommend going to an outfitter like REI and trying on a bunch, also cause they have things you can climb up and down to get an idea of fit too! Personally Vasque old style is the best fit for my foot and others not so much but I know many who swear by others!

There's a trick to open doors with no power. If you are locked out, the key fob has a latch that releases a physical key that can open driver side door. Then to open rear door, squeeze yourself in the back, and remove the 2 covers to reveal the spare wheel area. Look for a hole near the door, which has a barely visible latch that flicks right to left, trigger latch and push door, and voila. There's plenty of videos that show the process, but its good to know all this before you hit the road
Good to know but I would have to agree with above, Haha. Imagine trying to get under there with bags, a cover, removing the cartridge with pounds of items all from that small crawl space. Haha no thank you I’ll go with the jumper box 😂😂😂!

The water heater is amazing. I am a school bus driver and I am on my bus for 12ish hours a day without a lunch break. I usually pour water into a cup of ramen or ex Mac and let it sit for an hour. The noodles soften up and I eat it cold. This is something I can buy and use now that will carry over once I hit the road.
You CAN recharge the AGM battery, but you need a special AGM charger. And once it discharges, it kind of implies that you will be needing a new one in the near future. I ended up charging my AGM like 3-4 times before I finally got a new one. It's a little more expensive than a conventional battery, but it worked like a charm!
What, nothing in the engine compartment! Can't believe you get all that in there. I definitely want to get one of those solar fans. I assume that will be in your weather video coming up. Drive safe and take care.

I have car camped out of very small cars for years. My Toyota Echo I used to say was "the worlds smallest RV". I loved the gas mileage and the simplicity of camping out of a small vehicle; there is something about developing systems for packing what you need in a small space and living comfortably that feels empowering. I admire how you go even farther and actually use your Prius as a camper! I love your content - new Subscriber!

Put some thought into living this lifestyle the last few months and while out n about have noticed so many more people living this way lately! the car option is definately more challenging but considering the price rise of even a basic used 25 year old chevy astro van that barely runs for $3500 from a reasonable $500 only a couple years ago and a ready to live in upgraded newer 4x4 chevy van @ around $40,000 (Canadian) it is a very realistic option! great tips and advice! thank you for sharing these vids.

Curious, have you weighed your car after loading it up and what air pressure do you have to keep in your tires? Very through video on all that you need on an extended trip.
Tip for camper. When you are hiking with your mom you should wear a bear bell. Don’t want to sneak up on anything. Also in California I learned t take Ajax. It will keep ants away if you circle your camp site
As far as hot water goes, you can refill your bottle, or maybe have a large thermos, at any truckstop, in the coffee area, they have hot water dispensers and it's always free. Same goes for ice, if you need to fill a ziploc bag from the soda dispenser !
I've got a Subaru and Xena (a rescue I grabbed before she was put to sleep), She begs to go in the car anytime I want to run an errand. I think she and I should adventure-out ... Holy Moly!!!! You need to be an engineer to pack the stuff, a tech wiz to use all your gadgets and 100% organized or you'll go insane. LOL
The water heater is amazing. I am a school bus driver and I am on my bus for 12ish hours a day without a lunch break. I usually pour water into a cup of ramen or ex Mac and let it sit for an hour. The noodles soften up and I eat it cold. This is something I can buy and use now that will carry over once I hit the road.

You CAN recharge the AGM battery, but you need a special AGM charger. And once it discharges, it kind of implies that you will be needing a new one in the near future. I ended up charging my AGM like 3-4 times before I finally got a new one. It's a little more expensive than a conventional battery, but it worked like a charm!

I have car camped out of very small cars for years. My Toyota Echo I used to say was "the worlds smallest RV". I loved the gas mileage and the simplicity of camping out of a small vehicle; there is something about developing systems for packing what you need in a small space and living comfortably that feels empowering. I admire how you go even farther and actually use your Prius as a camper! I love your content - new Subscriber!

Put some thought into living this lifestyle the last few months and while out n about have noticed so many more people living this way lately! the car option is definately more challenging but considering the price rise of even a basic used 25 year old chevy astro van that barely runs for $3500 from a reasonable $500 only a couple years ago and a ready to live in upgraded newer 4x4 chevy van @ around $40,000 (Canadian) it is a very realistic option! great tips and advice! thank you for sharing these vids.

Tip for camper. When you are hiking with your mom you should wear a bear bell. Don’t want to sneak up on anything. Also in California I learned t take Ajax. It will keep ants away if you circle your camp site

As far as hot water goes, you can refill your bottle, or maybe have a large thermos, at any truckstop, in the coffee area, they have hot water dispensers and it's always free. Same goes for ice, if you need to fill a ziploc bag from the soda dispenser !
