How about a corner of the Fluval flex (the front flex panel) on the very front left hand side (second hand tank and did not notice the damage until home.
to be honest thats going to be a tough one. If its just the corner thats broken out I would probably just not fill the tank the full way. If its more of a spide crack you can drill the end of it to stop it spreading and fill with epoxy to strengthen it up
@@BlakesAquatics thanks Blake, epoxy Glue like Gorilla epoxy glue, or like a food grade epoxy? i figure that i could ues sealant to stop it leaching into the water column. I picked it up second hand and didnt notice it was in bad shape, 2 other corners have crunched glass (no cracks yet). i have just ordered a new one from my LFS (still the Flex). I did have a mad idea of cutting the bottom panel out and making the top[ the new bottom (would have to remove and spin around the sump internal)
I managed to mess up any extra glass i had laying around. A panel cracked on my turtles tank I just couldn’t get the cut straight. Hasn’t cost me anything extra. Just a lot of time. Maybe my cutting tool is no good. Can you recommend one. Also what kind on sanding tool did you use? Thanks!!
sorry to hear that, it is true the gap between a decent cutter and a bad one is pretty wide but it is also important to strongly press down to make a nice deep score. If you double score, if the glass is scratched or if the score isn't deep enough it can wreak some havoc.
You can definitely buy the glass from a glazier, often theyll even cut it for you, silicone is available at any hardware store too if you want a custom tank 👍
I saw those safety glasses and knew we were going to be in for a good video.. it blows my mind how many aquariums that get thrown out because of being broken. Especially when they're made with good glass! A very helpful and informative DIY Blake!! Also had some great suspense 😂 I'm glad it worked out!! This is a skill that will definitely help me in my hobby, so I really appreciate the tutorial!! Nice save on your tanks!!! I hope you have a wonderful day my friend! Thanks for sharing!!🤗👍🌿🐟🌿💚
Hahaha thanks Mary. Glad you liked it. It takes a few practoce goes but im fairly confident cutting glass these days after messing up a few times in the process
Thats an option for sure but both of them had main panels broken. The tanks got replaced anyways so i just wanted to salvage what was there with no further cost (except some labour and silicone i suppose, which wouldve been required even with a new pane)
I ordered from nano tanks, and a small corner is cracked. Do u think they will replace it, and is it still okay? Also if replaced did u get to keep ur old one or had to send it back?
Awesome. Could what you did when putting it back together work to make a tank from spare glass?
Can actaully tap the glass with your cutter after and it will crack the join nicely
Every time ive tried that its done nothing 😂
Blake's Aquatics works perfect for me 😂😂 I done around 30 cuts like it a month back
@@Dansfishroom i might have to whack it with a bit more gusto or something 🤷♂️
tip before snapping with the ball part of the glass cutter tap along the score line of the glass
Yes I've seen that thanks for the reminder 🤗👍😁
great info there mate and easy to follow. thanks Blake!
Well done Blake! Thanks for sharing! Did you say Bob is your Uncle? Hahaha
Very Witt-y Bill 😉
Great save with the tank Blake.
Cheers mate, the old buy 3 get 2 free deal haha

good info bud...im a patcher,cutting glass scares me :)
But how do you seperate the panes of the broken tank in the first place? That's what I'm struggling with! What tool do you even use?

Good job Blake, can you buy glass and silicone kits to build your own tank ?

Paddle pop stick also works well as a specialty tool for cleaning silicone 😂 n Nice save of tank.
Haha nice tip 👍 i have one of the actual tools somewhere but you can never find these things when you need them
Blake's Aquatics 👍
I’m bit slow just noticed I not done membership. All done now
@@cheveburkinshaw860 thanks 🙏 appreciate it
Nice work.🐟🌿👍😄
Got the whole safety part but like bear foot?
Hey, I have a 20L tank and my tank lid has snapped right in half. Is it safe to use tape to fix it because I don’t want to leave it without a lid?
its not great long term because the tape will lose its adhesiveness but it can work for a few days whilst you figure something else out
@@BlakesAquatics I don’t know what to do as an alternative.
@@zombitch_slayer5363 grab a sheet of greenhouse panelling from bunnings or a hardware store and cut that up to use.
@@BlakesAquatics I appreciate the help I’ll look into it thanks.
Cool video, thank you.
Cheers glad you liked it

Best 😂😂
I have a cracked 4 ft tank, so u better get up here and fix it haha
Hahah good one 👍
Why didn’t you just buy a new piece of glass to replace the cracked one?

how to fix a tank
step one give it to james and let him keep it because its cracked
I swear Auspost were playing football with my tanks. took them 4 attempts to deliver one that wasn't destroyed.
I finally got the replacements today 😂 but they had to be packed in styrofoam boxes with padding
