Don, Thanks for showing your "cost of living" numbers. I am sure that all of your subscribers are crunching numbers to compare against yours. As for myself, here in Texas, I spend about the same amount. So , moving to Ecuador or another country ,would not change the numbers enough for me under present circumstances. Living aboard my 44 foot boat in a gated municipal marina with a beautiful view of the bay is hard to give up. I am still researching other countries but the standard of living in the USA and Texas is IMO is still the best. As a retired pilot, I have traveled everywhere searching for a better place but just have not found Utopia. Dissatisfaction with our ill run government and taxes health insurance are my biggest complaints here. Sadly, there is no perfect country . Everyone must retire with no debt in order to live modestly on our much reduced retirement incomes ! I am a very interested subscriber and watch all of your videos. I can't mix alcohol w/my 4 hb pressure meds. Makes me jealous or envious although I never was a 'big' drinker. -- Still affordable there and people can adjust to their likes or lifestyle from your info. -- Cuenca may be less expensive and more to my liking cause I don't like the heat. Each to his own ?
I've done several videos in which I talk about this. It is definitely a better, smarter choice to come rent here first, then buy if you decide this is where you want to stay. I'm even recommending now-a-days that if you can afford it, keep your "home" in storage a year before you come here, then you can easily go back if you need to.

I remember you saying that you would like livability of Cuenca if not for the altitude.Do you still think that or has the rain,noise,dogs,closed expat clique changed your opinion.thanks for your brutal honesty about all your videos.

When you got to your medical insurance, I thought you had IESS plus the private policy. I know you did a video on medical insurance but I wasn't Interested in having private insurance then. Now, it is almost impossible to get appointments at IESS, that I am considering adding a basic insurance policy. Could you tell me what to watch out for when I shop for the policy? I will be keeping IESS for large expenses. Great video today! Thanks.
Just call Carlos at Blue Box and deal with him. So far, I'm extremely please with him and Humana. I DID have IESS but dropped it for the same reason as you plus I've seen first hand what govt health care is like and I don't want anything to do with it.

The altitude is the problem with Cuenca. The attitude is the problem with the coast.
