Hey! You are very calming. I look forward to some classic recommendations. I am also not very social media forward and somehow ended up with a RUclips channel 😂
That's so nice to hear, thank you! For some reason RUclips does feel a little bit different than a lot of other social media? Or maybe I'm just kidding myself 😂
Hello Celine, I'm so glad you created this channel, I'm a student of English literature from India who recently completed her master's. Your videos helps me a lot to dive back into the habit of reading ❤
Hey I’m also new here too! I love reading thrillers and depressing books and also like to break them up with the odd romance. I’ve just subscribed to your channel and can’t wait to follow your journey on here 😊💜
Welcome to booktube! I mainly just document my thoughts on what I've read book or manga wise. I'm an avid horror reader of both books and manga. I also swap between in front of the camera or audio only format. I'm an afternoon or evening reader mostly. I've been making videos for a while, but I don't know if I'd call myself a newbie lol. Great video! 😊❤📚
Welcome to BookTube! Now that you are done with your PhD, embrace your mood reading! The wonderful thing about a bookish life is that there really are no rules...just do what makes you happy! I am looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Hi there, I'm also a newbie. I tend to read a lot of adult fantasy books, but once in a while I will change it up with a non-fiction or a mystery. Depending on my mood and if I want to learn something. Nice to meet you and home to see more content from you.😊
Welcome to Booktube, this is a strong start! Our reading tastes overlap on the classics and the nonfiction - always delighted to welcome another nonfiction reader to the community. Pull up a chair and make yourself at home.
I’m a retired academic research biologist and you’re the kind of person that should be a professor of Literature: a person who LOVES books and reading and will get that across to your students. Therefore I figure that you have no hope in the halls of academia.
Thank you for the kind words John! I indeed have had no luck in securing a job at a university so far, ha. There have been significant redundancies in English departments in the UK, it's very disappointing
I wish you good luck - have you considered the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand? While they’ll hide it and deny it they have a huge inferiority complex towards the mothership - especially in universities and most in English literature ( it IS your language after all). My wife is an MD/Ph D with a faculty and university appointment at arguably the top university/hospital in the world ( and I did my Ph d at your Cambridge U, CANTAB! I haven’t used that term in decades, if ever ) and i wouldn’t wish her job on my worst enemy. She LOVES her research but hates every other aspect of university politics and hypocrisy ( if anything they worship money more than the Trump family, they just hide it better). My best friend’s wife with a PhD from Yale in history has spent her life teaching in boarding schools and it’s a rather amazing universe of its own - once you are an insider you can live anywhere in world teaching at these schools where almost every penny you earn you can save since the schools usually provide housing, access to the free school dinner halls and gyms ( Hogwarts Forever!!!). And they especially love female teachers because they are viewed as infinitely safer around the teenagers. I’d just hate teaching rich kids all my life and thus furthering the inequality and unfairness of this life…..but then what are the universities? Someday Socialism but sadly not today
Thank you! I'm pretty much committed to the UK for now - my partner is British 🙂 That is so interesting, to hear of other people's experiences! I'm not surprised to hear about the frustrating university politics. Boarding schools are such fascinating spaces, growing up I thought Rowling had invented them. I just couldn't imagine any parents would happily send their children off for months at a time! I am considering going into secondary education now, as there are huge shortages in the sector. I dream of equal educational opportunities for everyone, but alas, we're not quite there yet 😅
Commenting to support channel. Tell me you don't like booktuber faves, The Ruins or Wuthering Heights, and we can be besties. 😁 They show up as favorites in their genres and I just don't get it. I was okay with movie version of Ruins, but the book was insufferable IMHO.
Hey...
Nice to see you in the community!
Welcome to Booktube

Hi. Nice video. I’m also a relative newbie but am enjoying it very much already. Look forward to getting to know you 😊
Aw, thank you Raynor!
👋
Your style has some similarities to mine, although I do read a lot of non-fiction, science and history. I do binge read. I don’t have a channel yet.
Thanks for watching! I do read some non-fiction too, particularly history, I just forgot to say haha

Ha, I had to look up The Ruins, I didn't know that book. I enjoyed Wuthering Heights though, hope we can still be friends!
