So happy I found your video! I have been struggling for a couple of days now and could not find a video to better explain to me like this one ! You helped me learn my cricut and now my solo ! Thank you !
Michael, I received a SOLO for Christmas and would very much appreciate you putting out more tutorials for this machine! The learning curve is huge on the CREATE software. Thanks!
I know a lot of the other comments mention that it looks complicated- and I was nervous to watch the video after glancing through them. But, I was pleasantly surprised how absolutely do-able (and quickly) it seemed. A nice mix of features that I enjoy from both Design Space and Silhouette Studio. I think it would only take a couple times to have this mastered pretty quickly with tutorial videos like this already out there when the machine launches
I think for most of us, anytime we see a new software it can seem complicated and overwhelming. Many people feel that Cricut Design Space is complicated the first time they see it, but ultimately, the more we use and learn any software the easier it becomes. 😊

Thank you for this tutorial. I recently become interested in purchasing machine for cutting fabric. I like the fact that you can download your files on a USB drive and you don't have to connect to the internet or your computer after that.
I'm excited about this machine. It looks like there is a lot of space between the images and the registration marks (like cricut). What is the biggest image you can print then cut on an 8.5x11 page?
I enjoy watching all you videos, I have learned many tips from you and good knowledge regarding the Starcraft SOLO machine. I just won a SOLO machine participating on a raffle and I prayed to win it, now I am trying to understand it. Thanks for all the help!
The print + cut option is amazing on this cutter. It allows far greater use of the printout area compared to other cutters in its price range. The camera is also very fast and the results are very accurate.
I was finally abe to save up and get a starcraft Solo, what a game changer! Now I just need to find more video on the software and using the program for projects!
Great tutorial. This Solo looks like a great machine. I'm going to pass on it though. I can't help myself, I'm a Cricut girl. All that needs to be done is for Cricut to expand the cutting space for print then cut.
Ok well after having issues with my design space and having to limit my sticker business and almost close it down because of it… I have found my new machine! I’m convinced. In the am it’s getting ordered!
You make this look so easy, I am the proud owner of a new Starcraft Solo (I won it, only had to pay 1/2) with your videos I am hoping that I can do this!!!!
I feel like I'm falling in love with this machine alongside you! What other materials is it able to cut? Can it also do engraving or debossing? I was planning on purchasing a Cricut Maker 3 but I'm being swayed.
Yes, it will do engraving and debossing once those tools are released. Here's a list of other materials that have been tested. More materials of similar thickness and density as these should also cut: Acetate Adhesive Vinyl Cardstock Chipboard (up to 0.033”) Construction Paper Craft Foam Craft Plastic (up to 0.02” PET-G) Double-Sided Adhesive Fabric Felt Heat Transfer Vinyl Label Sheets Leather (up to 0.06”) Magnet Sheets (up to 0.035”) Mylar (up to 0.010”) Copy Paper Photo Paper Poster Board Rhinestone Template Materials Shrink Film Styrene (up to 0.015”) Wood Veneer (up to 0.015”)
I'm a total cutting machine noob so I couldn't justify the cost of one of these spiffy machines, but maybe the price will come down over time. It does look pretty cool, and thanks for all your excellent tutorials.
It looks kinda of confusing to me, but it does seem like it does do more than the cricut. I'm an October baby like Elizabeth, so maybe, who knows, I might get one. I was intimidated by design space too, but now can operate it with my eyes closed, so I'm sure I can learn this too.

I am coming from the Cameo Plus and Cameo PRO, but ready to throw the PRO out the window lol my Solo arrives friday and I am super excited to hopefully FINALLY get cuts done right. But I have a question, your stickers have the white outline, are you able to cut closer to the black outline to avoid that white around it? If so do you happen to have a video showing how to do that? I make shirts, and I know not everyone will like that white around their design.
Cool machine. A little complicated for me over sixty. But learn-able. Like the custom functions! Thanks for showing us all it can do. Looking forward to more tutorials. Thanks again
I was 62 when I first began testing and documenting this AMAZING cutter! You can do it if I can do it. Just takes a bit of grit and how many of us over the age of 60 don't have grit! Right?
@@sandymccauley I'm game and have grit for sure. I'd like to try. Im a respiratory therapist thirty years. Hi, Thanks for a very exciting look at this machine. Two questions : How does the Solo work with transparent photo paper for print and cut ? Can I lay out a full 8.5 x 11 page in photoshop, save as a png, and import without having to re-manipulate the files ? Thank you.
Sorry, a couple more questions. Do you have to go through the alignment process every time you print and cut ? Can you save a cut and print file and use it over and over ? Thanks again !
You had mentioned a printer you were using maybe a canon maker? What are your thoughts? Or if I am totally wrong do you have a printer you love?! Thanks, Julia
I'm curious to know when using 8.5x11 paper and cutting a simple rectangle shape...what is the maximum print then cut size? I'm guessing if you use just a simple rectangle you can get 8 inches wide and 11 inches long, figuring that print registration takes roughly 1/2 inch total from width and height? Right now I use my Cricut Maker 3 to cut my tumbler sublimation prints perfectly for 20oz tumblers at 9.35" X 8.0"...and unfortunately on Cricut Maker 3, you have to waste 11x17 because the max print then cut size is 7.9" x 6.76 inches...so I just flip over to the 11x17 size and it fits and works very well...however it does waste a significant amount of the paper. It's not expensive really, but I would consider getting a Starcraft Solo if I could confirm I could cut 9.35" x 8.0" using 8.5 x 11 paper instead of the larger 11X17.
Great Tutorial!! Can you compare the maximum size print then cut someone could make from your Canon printer to a Starcraft machine and then to a Cricut? It would be interesting to see how much bigger of print then cut you could make with the same image on the different machines using a standard inkjet printer.
Do you have a tutorial on how to draw directly on Create using a digital pen? I was hoping this was an option for Create. Thank you Also, how to make rhinestones?
Can you please let me know where I can get a weeding pen from? When I followed your link it won't allow me to purchase here in Australia...it looks amazing and would love to get one
Do you think that the solo is a better machine than the cricut maker? I have the maker and am thinking about buying the solo. How many different kinds od tools does it have. Thanks for this video, you a great teacher
There are future tools planned for the SOLO, such as an engraver and a scoring tool. In comparing the SOLO to the Maker, it's all about what you need or aspire to do. When it comes to print-and-cut applications, the SOLO is going to beat Cricut hands down on both speed and overall size of the projects. The software has dozens more design and editing functions, as well as freedom to do things like import and export more file formats. Using a cutter like a SOLO does have more to learn but only because there's so much more you can do. You end up with a lot of moments saying things like, "Too cool! I had no idea it could be done THAT way!"
Looks awesome! And, you presented the instructions for the p2c very logically and easy to understand. Thank you. May be going this route for my next cutter. (when my Eclips, which is discontinued, bites the dust. P2C is my very favorite technique, and it looks amazing to have it so precisely. Question: Do you do the calibration just the first time, or do you have to calibrate for every p2c project?
If the cutter has been shipped or transported on a bumpy ride, then it's a good idea to recheck the calibration. But otherwise, you only have to calibrate the one time.
First I really like your demonstrations but that solo seems to be a lot of work, do you have to make sure the cuts are right every time you do a project?

You can only print as large as your printer will print. What I am curious about is can you do legal size? Most printers will print out legal but are there sticker paper legal size? Still waiting to see if they will ship this baby to Canada or I may have to find a family member that will accept and ship it to me from the states.
@@sandymccauley I will do a search to see if there is sticker paper that is legal size. Seems legal exists but not larger that I can find so far. I am trying to figure out if a surecolor epson large format makes sense. It doesn’t if I can’t buy sticker paper that size. Even legal size is exciting.
I'm thinking printable vinyl is what they're referring to when they're talking about such lengths. You just have to find a printer that will print that long.
@@cgarrett325 Or use a professional printing company to do the printing.. that's what some small businesses choose until they can afford their own vinyl printers.
AAV (Another Awesome Video) lol....thanks! So if I make car stickers using permanent vinyl, do I have to seal them with something? Or I've heard of others laminating them....ideas? Thanks ahead. Take care & God Bless
You don't have to seal permanent vinyl but do take into account which vinyl you purchase. They are rated based on how long you can expect them to last which is tied to color fading as well as other factors.
Sandy McCauley 1 second ago The camera calibration is only needed one time. The engineers do suggest that if you've shipped your SOLO or, yikes, dropped it, then perhaps you might want to check it. But otherwise, just a one time quick calibration and you're good to go after that.

You can load the mat from the front or from the back. The goal is to just have the blade holder over the lower right reg mark as you face the SOLO. And then the printout needs to be placed on the mat in the same orientation as you see it in the software.
