This has to be one of the best episodes of SNL. The water sparyer was a perfect gag and definitely helped make the joke even funnier. The Whoopi impression was spot on from the hair to the voice, she nailed it.

Leslie is alot funnier when she plays it down. She has a very expressive face and suggestive mannerisms, but they always wanted her to go over the top. She always seemed a bit uncomfortable with that.
Look up her stuff before she joined SNL she’s always played that loud character
I mean look at her in interviews, she really is loud. But I agree, understated Leslie is best Leslie. Her facial expressions alone are enough to get a laugh, whether serious deadpan, comic surprise, and everything in between.
She's perfectly fine doing both over and under-the-top. An all-around performer.
I agree, when she actually plays closer to normal, it is better. Think the angry black womanly stereotype is why they have her play over the top characters though.
she can do whatever she wants but more people want to watch her when she doesn't scream and yell. Boring. Black women are more than angry, big, obnoxious people, but when they put her as that character it's just pressing in the racist ideas. But in roles like this she can be good. But if she wonders why people don't like her- lots of folks don't like the screechers. But SNL always has one-now we have Sarah Screamer, who, when she's used in skits as a normal human, is a lot of fun, but you see her in one her neon get ups and it's "click away". Annoying and boring and kinda sad when then can do something else. If I want to be screeched at, I'll just go fly somewhere and go through TSA. I want characters and interesting people on SNL
