I was just diagnosed with this this past Monday. It started with sensitivity on my upper and lower teeth on the right side only. Nothing horrible. I went to the Dentist, who gave me xrays (all was good) and then he put composite along my gumline, and prescribed me sensitivity toothpaste. Those things did nothing. The sensitivity became worse, then it was pain in one tooth, then it would move to another tooth, It would go from the upper teeth to the bottom teeth, no rhyme or reason. Then the pain.. It got so bad that I was having these "episodes" every two minutes where I was screaming and crying from the pain for over 24 hours. I have given birth, and I would take a natural birth anyday over this pain. Finally I told my husband to take me to the ER, or I was going to take my life (I'm not suicidal otherwise by any means) but I could not physically or mentally take this pain. ER Dr said it sounded like trigeminal neuralgia, and gave me Gabapentin. By the third dose, I was comfortable. I went to my primary Dr, who said it did not sound like TM because most people don't have it in the teeth area. They experience their pain in their face and along the top up to their ear.. which after researching it myself online, I find that to not be true. It seems as though most people have the teeth issue. I was ready to go have 8 or more root canals which my Dentist was in agreement when he said if the composite/toothpaste doesn't work. I am pretty much pain free with 300 mg of Gabapentin three times a day but now my upper crown hurts if I bite down. Goind to the Dentist tomorrow to check it out. It's very very painful but not the same kind of pain. It's only painful if I bite down. It almost feels like it has moved or something.. which I was wondering if TM does move your teeth or something, or maybe I did something by pressing on my teeth to try to get some relief. Thanks for the video. This whole experience has made me so emotional. Unless you experience the pain, you really have no idea how absolutely horrible it is.

I know, it is horrible. I had it since 2003 and then no one knew much about then. What is TM?? Trigeminal Neuralgia is "TN". Gabapentin is a seizure med, and it did not work for me, bc I am sensitive to these type of meds. Tried dozens. Get second opinions. I got screwed up by kaiser and Stanford med. They made me worse. My pain is now in my right teeth, but I now have neuropathy due to Stanford frying my 5th rt cranial nerve and kaiser hid since 2007 until in 2021 when Pfizer vaccine re-triggered the TN. I was too doped up by kaiser to make a good decision. Worse, when I complained to member services, they changed my medical records. Kaiser WC neurology is screwed up. Neurosurgery and Neurology lied about my conditions. I wish I could sue them.

Thank you for the video. The condition is well explained and the diagrams show exactly where the nerves run.

I think that this is important to get the information out. Thank you.

Thanks. This helped a lot. Having a lot of pain after a molar crown was replaced, nothing wrong with tooth, no need for root canal, yep! it is the trigemenial nerve, weird tooth pain, ear burning sensation, fell lump on throat when swallow, got better after few days on dexamethasone 0.5mg every 12 hours, but it has been 7 days already and still felling tightness and pain on the side of the cheek close to ear, pulse pain, tooth pain, etc. so going to see a neurologist, hopefully a corticosteroid injection will clear the problem.

experiencing lower lips numbness, almost a pinching tingling numbness and pull of lower left lip, drooling while sleeping, had intense vibrating sensation when brushing the left side, had several fillings after 24-48hrs after the filling significant reduction in the numbness in the face, 2 weeks later had another series of fillings, now the numbness in the face has almost been gone, however still comes back after wearing a FACE MASK and talking thru the mask, also noticed some numbness after showering face in water, some minor numbness and headaches still accruing about 2 months in. my initial thought was cavities, migraine, sinus headache. now researching further.

My surgeon NEVER TOLD ME the risks, and im so scared. It is day 2 s/p the tooth extraction (2 lower wisdom teeth), and most of my lower lip i cant feel on the right side, as well as my bottom right teeth and gums, and most of my right chin, I have a lisp now as well. Im so upset these risks weren't discussed with me, because if they were, there's no way I would have gone through with this. I've been crying pretty much all day these past 2 days. He was SO ROUGH with my tooth trying to get it out, I am so afraid the damage is permanent. I do have some feeling in most of those places, but very little unless I am practically stabbing myself, then I feel some pain. What should I do?

Can trigeminal neuralgia pain occur near upper teeth region or it occurs near lower teeth region ? If one tooth of upper side (5 numbered tooth) is paining can it be trigeminal neuralgia?

@@saraimurillo4013 A neurosurgeon recommended MVD surgery. I’m getting a second opinion from a neurosurgeon at Northwestern Hospital that was recommended to me next month. I’m planning to go ahead with the surgery if the surgeon at Northwestern will do it. Thanks
