Im on my son's account, but I wanted to send much love. I was a H.E.T. driver for Wisconsin NG and it was a great group of guys and gals. Stay safe out there! Rolling Thunder!
i did the refurb on all the hydraulic cylinders on every HET M1000 trailer after 2005.... so if you see the serial tag on the S41( Bogie wheels shocks) D90 (goose neck cylinders) and D46 trailer Steering) with a serial M0505-XXXX and higher ... those are all my cylinders..damn proud to have done it.. right now i am working on the Air Forces the Tunner 60k Loader
What's the MOs needed to drive a HET or license requirement ?? The original tank haulers in the sixties had straight cut gears and had to be double clutched going up in gears and shifting down . We were in convoy one time and lost air pressure to the brakes which didn't turn out to good for the locals in NAM.
Richard Bast, a few years ago I told the manufacturer to make the ramps about 8" wider. I'm not sure how many times I've had to load trailers on trailers.
Oshkosh doesn't make those trailers. The truck width was specified by TACOM to meet certain on road regulations in the US and for their own needs. I wouldn't be surprised the trailers were as well.
Does it count if I used to drive a HET carrying a 18 wheeler on the back carrying another HET carrying a tank on the back from the manufacturer or Army depot ? Our millitary kicks ass !
Love this machines and them design - looks realy strong and nasty!guys, when you came toward me with that, you won the war - and these is only an Truck...
My dad has been truck driving for damn near thirty years including his time driving in the Army. As a civilian driver, he hauled one of those bad boys to be scrapped at Evergreen!
I was in 377 Heavy Truck 181st Bn in Mannheim Germany before they relocated to Fort Bliss. Was on the Autobahn on a downhill slope with a Hemmit onboard, stuck it in nuetral down a hill and hit 100+ mph! Good times
And back in 2001 when these trucks were under 2nd Transportation Company (HET) at Ft. Carson, we had at a minimum 3 drip pans under the truck and 1 under the trailer for hydraulic tank. I miss my old truck 103.
The M1070 and M1070A1 have a 231,400 lbs GVWR,and the truck just bob tailing is 44,000 lbs by it self. The M1000 Trailers are built to handle the same amount of weight. This is the only object that they use in the Military coupled behind the HET.They haul Abrams Tanks,Paladin Howitzers,M113 APC's,and even HEMTT's if they have to.
They will do 47-55 MPH being on a govenor/limit.Same way for both the M1070 and M1070A1 HET's.I don't know if the first M1070's actually were on limits, but I do know that the first fleets of the M977-M985 HEMTT's use to have no governors on them. You could run 2,500 RPM out of the 8V-92 TA at 65-71 MPH,and then the Army went with limits and you could only do 2,100 RPM max out of a 2 Stroke Detroit in a Oshkosh. You could also use the computer system that the PLS has,in a HET to give it more speed, the M1074-M1120 can run 70 MPH all day. On the truck like the M1070A1,I don't really know what is the difference, but Oshkosh has not used Detroits for at least ten years and Caterpillar quit making truck engines because of the fucking EPA.The M1070A1 actually has a C-18 Caterpillar. The previous M1070 HET had a 8V-92 TT,meaning that it was twin turbo charged.Actually, starting in 1991,I believe that is when they started coming out with the DDEC/DD-92.Alot of 92 Series in the M1070's were not all mechanical like what the HEMTT and PLS always had.
@@kentraviousmckenzie6886 All Military trucks have governors/limiters on them buddy...Not "some".They use to run no limits on them quite some time ago,but that instantly changed very quick.
Dick Allan I was about to say fort Carson I thought I saw commo Hill I need to come by and see if I can get a look at them for a scale model I’m building
They are all built by Oshkosh. All the 15 Ton Trucks like the M1070 HET,LVSR MKR-16,MK-48,PLS M1075,and the HEMTT are all Oshkosh. The MTVR 7 Ton Trucks are all also Oshkosh, they were the primary replacement that made the 5 Ton Trucks retire for the Navy Seabees and Marine Corps, only the Army still uses 5 Ton Trucks and the Army has them together as a Family of FMTV's instead of a Series like they use to,2 1/2 Ton Trucks are LMTV and 5 Ton Trucks are MTV,both Stewart & Stevenson.Even the JLTV,which is currently suppose to be the actual position taker for the HMMWV (Humvee) is made by Oshkosh. All the trucks that I mentioned except for the MTVR and JLTV from Oshkosh had DD-92/8V-92 Detroits in them until Mercedes Benz purchased them from General Motors. They now use Caterpillar Engines, and so does the MTVR.All the trucks except for the HET use the C15 6NZ,the HET uses the C18 and the MTVR uses the C12.The JLTV has a Duramax.
HET's after 2009 use a C18 Caterpillar at 800 HP and 4,000 Torque. All previous HET's Pre-2009 use a DD-92 Detroit at 500 HP and 1,470 Torque, not a 8V-92.The 8V-92 was used in the Pre-2009 HEMTT Trucks. And Post-2009 HEMTT's use a C15 6NZ.Detroit Diesel was bought by Mercedes Benz and after that happened to General Motors with them, the Military has repowered these trucks with Caterpillar Engines.Other Trucks as well from the Navy Seabees and Marines like the LVSR MKR-16 and even MK-48 also have Cat' Engines in them. Some of the older Units still in Service have been Rebuilt to be Repowered with them, while older Variants that have been Decommissioned have been kept untouched with their original Screamin' Jimmy''s.

Cooler than dry ice and down like Four flat tires with a spare with out air

BaltimoreAndOhioRR omg your here lol i love Oshkosh trucks and in a sub to you
Nice beast!
As one of the designers on the HET M1070A1 one of the biggest feed back items I've heard was; :Where's the jack for my iphone?" Lol.

pretty sick.
I wanna be in a HET unit. I’m in the a 1088 tractor unit right now.
Blake Moody Would this be an 88M? I would love to drive these!! How do I get enlisted into this? Thank you
Nice video. I use to be in 377 HET at Fort Bliss. I miss those days.

Good choice of music. Is that Thievery Corp?
Good ole fort Carson
about the coolest thing I've seen
God I love to see them
Seeing 1 with an oil pan under it, wouldn't leave me with a lot of confidence.
If a two stroke Detroit ain't leaking oil it's because there's none left in it. :D
army standard oil pan when parked at motorpool even tho there's no leak at all
In the Army every piece of equipment with an engine has to have a drip pan under it
And back in 2001 when these trucks were under 2nd Transportation Company (HET) at Ft. Carson, we had at a minimum 3 drip pans under the truck and 1 under the trailer for hydraulic tank. I miss my old truck 103.
Hi bro
I have a question for you
Is the M1070 still used in the US Army
@Dick_Allan what is the piece of equipment at 1:45?
Seth Robinson That is a RTCH. Rough Terrain Container Handler. If your talking about what is in the trailer?
Made in my home town!
hauling tanks at 40mph with a huge tank like truck.. what's the point?
The British Army have these as well
anyone know the towing and weight capacity of the truck and trailer???
The M1070 and M1070A1 have a 231,400 lbs GVWR,and the truck just bob tailing is 44,000 lbs by it self. The M1000 Trailers are built to handle the same amount of weight. This is the only object that they use in the Military coupled behind the HET.They haul Abrams Tanks,Paladin Howitzers,M113 APC's,and even HEMTT's if they have to.
looks like an old Mack.. i've run up on these guys before it seems like they are all governed at 55 mph, is that true?
Yes they are governed at 55 MPH sometime we can get her to 60 plus down a hill and a strong tail breeze.
Some trucks are governed ,but sometimes military convoys are told to drive 50 t0 60mph in conus
