Why go for a portal delete? I know he said about the gearing difference, but is it possible to put the portals on upside down? Lower the cg even further. I know shorter shocks would also do that but what about both? Then stick the body up a little more? Just to give even more stability and get the weight as low as you can.
@@scalebuildersguild Ah ok, didn't realise there was that much reduction in the portals for these things. Worth deleting them in that case. Unless of course you designed and 3D printed custom inverse portals and switched gears to multiply the speeds by 2 at the wheels? Putting less rpm through the rest of the drivetrain? Although of course more torque through everything that way. Probably not worth the effort!
You guys HAVE to do afterburners. Don't care if it's legal or not. Last episode ignite 3 or 4 Estes rocket engines when it hits 45 mph. If you could get that on video! Oh man!!!
Take the headlights out, replace with tube and run them out the rear window. That will give it less drag in the front and down force on the rear. It could work. 👍👍
can skip the physical tube and get most of the benefit with the holes. fill in low pressure areas with exhaust holes, reduce high pressure with entry holes. would also use some sort of flexible membrane for a "bottom plate" right over the links. thinking Airplane skin type stuff.
The rules state we use the stock body, it was like the first rule we talked about 😂 and also, a VW bug?! That would be near the bottom of my choices! 😁
Add a drag fin and wheelie bar, strip weight, put it on a scale and drop scale accessories until its a lot lighter.. remove the servos and just run open differentials add a front diffuser at the bumper and put on shorter shocks to reduce travel and overall height.
squeeee...I can't wait to see how you're going to "style" this... this is going to be fun... you are genuinely excited for this and that will make this awesome!!
Definitely keep those diffs open! I ran my TRX4 on 6s with a Slate 3800kv in high gear, if you have a steady hand you have a chance with open diffs, locked? Forget about it!
Fabricating a motor mount for that would be a lot of extra effort and if you removed all ratio except the ring and pinion it wouldn’t be enough reduction for the motor and would likely overheat or not be able to reach RPM.
As Traxxas crawlers have been portal equipped from the start, a portal delete is going to be tricky! Plus the durability of 3d printed parts is sketchy at best (especially high stress parts)!
Oh wow, I guess my rule pushing/bending thoughts was on the right track with rules 1 and 2. But remembering the Deadbolt, I def would be worried about durability of axles and many other components.
I'd maybe suggest when you do the axle delete, do a SHOCK DELETE, too! Make 6 titanium 70 or 80mm links and replace the shocks with them. Since you're more than likely driving on a smooth surface, no need for suspension travel, right?
Chop the top by about a third and drop the body down onto the chassis to help lower the overall profile. iIf you are going to run shorter tires you will need to eliminate all the extra fender gap.
Definitely lower the truck. Also I would recommend stiffer suspension . I've had many bumps while doing speed runs And the stiff suspension keeps it from bouncing everywhere and losing control. 🤷♂️
✌🏻😎🏴josh your saying you may use that 8s system & Matt is saying definitely not on 8s 😂. This is going to be fun dude. Paint the body yourself josh for extra style points👍🏻 but if you paint it orange you will loose 10mph of your total score 😂
The axles can handle it! My Trx6 has a Mamba X and a holmes 4100kv L sized motor. on stock gearing with 3s power, it will do 26 mph and straight up ride a wheelie dragging the rear bumper! I've done it many times giggling like a dumbass in my front parking lot.
I'm confident mine would hit 45 with a small gear change and more voltage. Easy. This motor is nuts, I bash the hell out of it and it's not even hot. The diff's can get pretty warm though. LOL I'd keep the rears locked. Maybe try it both ways. See what you prefer...
Its not an aerodynamics idea, but there is a under 10 second cummins ram that will start in 2 wheel drive, then between 2nd and 3rd switch to 4 wheel drive. I dont know if you going for anything like that or just top speed, but it might help with stability off the line, then using a dig on the front to disconnect the steer axle to pic up more speed.
What about ditching the center shaft and go direct driven one motor pr axel. Removing the portal will also introduce torque twist. Not something you want for fast acceleration/speed runs? Modified shock/spring set up?
Removing the portal still leaves about the same reduction as almost any other vehicle, so the twist isn’t an issue. Going individual motor would be over complicated, and require 3 systems which would add far more weight. Just not a realistic approach.
I hope at least one of you will use to of those crapy tracks this motors and run 8S. I'd like to see six-by-six hoosiers with custom foam's dual 8 scale motors and at least 2 100c 8S batteries. I would like to see at least one of these trucks melted into a pile of using plastic and rubber on the street, this is a competition. You will definitely have to tape whatever slicks you decide to use to prevent tire growth. I have actually had very good luck taping my hoosiers with just a single round of gorilla tape. And I have had good luck just on to S but with 5700 KV. The portal delete is absolutely a good idea. I think lowering that center of gravity will be even more useful then the deleting the portal gear reduction. I am looking forward to seeing something outside the Box from both of you. Like a massive offset for the to rear tires so that tire growth is and even an issue although I think you would have to also offset the front equally otherwise you will suffer extreme rollover issues with any amount of steering correction
The reactions are a belted tire and eliminate the need for tape. Should be a better choice. Motors have physical limits of RPM that 6s will already be pushing. Keeping the tires covered by the body is more important for aerodynamics.
Id lock the front, itll help keep jt from drifting on a crowned road. On my trx4 with stock gearing and a 3800kv on 3s with the portal reduction itll run around 30mph. If it was my build, id do a portal delete, sport spur and biggest pinion possible, id hazard a guess youll be around 50? on 6s
Do the rules say that all tires must touch the ground ? You can put some large diameter tires on front and rear axles, put some extremely small tires on the center axle
I am not convinced that the weight of this truck is going to be extremely offset by its lack of aerodynamics. I think powered correctly this truck should be able to hit 60 plus without any consideration of aerodynamics. Kevin Talbot has pushed his TRX for to some serious extremes, I don't think gearing is going to be an issue in terms of durability.
Pinch the nose on it. It will look ugley but it might help performance. Try going 8s too it could have amazing speed. Take off as much of the body as you can.👍
I'm glad neither of us are sandbagging this time. And for the record, the portal delete has already begun over on team SBG. ;)
Why go for a portal delete? I know he said about the gearing difference, but is it possible to put the portals on upside down? Lower the cg even further. I know shorter shocks would also do that but what about both? Then stick the body up a little more? Just to give even more stability and get the weight as low as you can.
Matthew Torok a portal delete will lose about half the gear reduction. That amount of extra speed will definitely be a factor.
@@scalebuildersguild Ah ok, didn't realise there was that much reduction in the portals for these things. Worth deleting them in that case. True portal delete was discussed on IG. Saw it first over at SBG.
I'll take the axles lol
Needs a GIANT rear wing
YES!!! I missed monthly mayhem so much I'm so happy right now.
Make it look like a cyber truck with just adding clear Lexan triangles😂😂 mayb it will work🤷♂️
You guys HAVE to do afterburners. Don't care if it's legal or not. Last episode ignite 3 or 4 Estes rocket engines when it hits 45 mph. If you could get that on video! Oh man!!!
And this thing better get side skirts, splitters, and a diffuser on this thing
Top speed.... ON WATER.
That needs to be the goal!
Take the headlights out, replace with tube and run them out the rear window. That will give it less drag in the front and down force on the rear. It could work. 👍👍

Nice.👍
Needs ah big ol' wang like LMP2 cars. Looking forward to your build Josh!!
I think this challenge is right up your alley. Matt’s got his work cut out for him. Looking forward to the mayhem!
Need Front aero aka diffuser, aero wheel covers, a flat bottom and a low profile wing
Let the mayhem begin!!!!
Nice! You and Matt need to get those Pro-Line Lid Skids!!
This is looking very interesting. Can't wait to see the next video.
Let the destruction begin.
Portal delete kit x3. brings the truck down and gets rid of more gear reduction.
i gotta continue to watch this Mayhem, I cant wait for the outcome.
I know it's too much to ask, but it would be AMAZING to see a super-stretch VW Bug on this chassis!
The rules state we use the stock body, it was like the first rule we talked about 😂 and also, a VW bug?! That would be near the bottom of my choices! 😁
@@HarleyDesignsInc Booo. :) I just love bugs.
I’m excited for this one. Got my oldest daughter a 6x6. Thing is a blast to drive and bash with.
Yeah going to be super cool Josh, i'll be following. Interesting to see how it turns out
Add a drag fin and wheelie bar, strip weight, put it on a scale and drop scale accessories until its a lot lighter.. remove the servos and just run open differentials add a front diffuser at the bumper and put on shorter shocks to reduce travel and overall height.
squeeee...I can't wait to see how you're going to "style" this... this is going to be fun... you are genuinely excited for this and that will make this awesome!!
I can't wait to see how long your wheelie bar will be... lol
ad a big old school drag wing to the back bed not just for function but looks Murica!
Definitely keep those diffs open! I ran my TRX4 on 6s with a Slate 3800kv in high gear, if you have a steady hand you have a chance with open diffs, locked? Forget about it!
My favorite series is back 💪🏾💯
I like the monthly mayhem but I have never liked 6 x 6's. I will watch just for the fun of it.
Carve some wood for the wings... balsa maybe😂
Drive the transfer case directly from the motor with a custom drive shaft... :)
Fabricating a motor mount for that would be a lot of extra effort and if you removed all ratio except the ring and pinion it wouldn’t be enough reduction for the motor and would likely overheat or not be able to reach RPM.
Hell yes this is going to be awesome 😎
Awesome!! I can't wait👍👍👍
Awesome video. Ready to see more. Hoping to have my trx6 this weekend
maybe try leaving the rear most diff lock to stabilize it off the line, and the first unlocked to keep it stable as pressure translates to the front.
As Traxxas crawlers have been portal equipped from the start, a portal delete is going to be tricky! Plus the durability of 3d printed parts is sketchy at best (especially high stress parts)!
These are all machined parts. It’s a readily available kit you can buy.
@@HarleyDesignsInc cool! Game on!😂
gyro enabled😎
Love my Trx6.......but it’s the first lend our
SOOO EXCITED!

This is going to AWESOME!!!!

when i first herd what this monthlymayhem was going to be my first thought was do a portal deleat
All of the weight will help keep it planted on the ground.
Chop the top by about a third and drop the body down onto the chassis to help lower the overall profile. iIf you are going to run shorter tires you will need to eliminate all the extra fender gap.
HELL YA!!!!!!!!
I want to see it once with the crawler tires grow and rub each other
I 3D printed fake servos for my locking diffs to keep them locked
Awesome idea!!!
Definitely lower the truck. Also I would recommend stiffer suspension . I've had many bumps while doing speed runs And the stiff suspension keeps it from bouncing everywhere and losing control. 🤷♂️

Awesome video like always, I think it would be awesome to make it a no prep umg drag racer 😂
Team 'Murica!
I think you should try going 8s. You should do a lift kit and put some big tires in the front.
Are these bad ideas on purpose?
Yes.
josh cut out the front and rear window and put a piece of lexan over the gap inside the body
Shape it like the Tesla cybertruck
put some drift tires on it at some point yeah? I just wanna see this thing drifting around.

You should create a tonneau cover similar to a military hmmwv slant back design
If you're not first, your last!

May be for aero look at Rod Millan,s pikes peak tacoma truck
u and sbg the 6x6 is built for no prep
stock gearing with 3100kv on 3s will do 25mph, but the tires will be ballooning and rub together
Yeah the stock tires would never stay for what we’re after.

I was wondering if Portal Delete was going to be an option. Now it will really fly..
Song in the background??
Is the clear body pre-cut?
This would look so bad ass super low like you plan with a long no prep rear spoiler. Low and long baby
Add a gyro for stability !!
go with the electronics that KEVIN TALBOT used on his 6s trx4
We discuss in the rules specifically what we’re using. And this is more powerful than his setup.
Would it be legal to put a salt flats style she'll over the stock body?
I sense shocks filled with diff oil🤷🏼♂️ or rear shocks eliminated

When is traxxas going to come out with a decent body for that aussume platform?
Awesome idea ...buuut my money is on Matt...sorry.
Gotta watch Exocaged, there was a guy that did this . I think on 6s. With a lot less fraking around.
Pretty sure that wasn’t anywhere near the same amount of speed. That was a brushed motor on 6s. Voltage alone doesn’t mean speed.
@@HarleyDesignsInc okay okay. Thanks

do you own a subaru?

1 month time and 4 fowling videos.....4 weeks to a month

stock berrings are stiff the seal is to tight as you are not going in water swcht all berrind to zz metal berrings and cleaning then and tin oil

Cut the roof and windshield frame off. Turn it into a crack head Convertible.
delete the front driveshaft
