- The Polaroid Go is Polaroid's answer to the insanely popular Fuji Instax Mini line, but is it any good? In this video I go into all the details about how this instant film camera almost succeeds, but falls short of being something I can recommend to people.
Cameras that I recommend instead of the Polaroid Go are either the Instax Mini 11 or the vintage Polaroid OneStep Closeup 600 type camera. Links to where you can buy both can be found on my site at danfinnen.com/2021/09/24/pola...

I had exactly the same experience as you, very underexposed photos even when flash at minimum focus distance. This was with my first two packs of film. I decided to give it another chance with another box of film and I must say the results are better this time. I’ve only shot a couple photos but they already look better. The production date of my first packs was 04/21, and my new packs are 06(or 07)/21. Maybe there’s a difference in the new batch’s chemistry, I don’t know.
I’ll keep using my remaining film to see if there’s any more definite improvements. I would recommend you to maybe give it another chance, with the most recent film you can get.
Anyway it’s nice to see I’m not crazy/alone for thinking the Go is interesting but gets ruined because the photos are underexposed most of the times. I think the biggest flaw of the camera is that it doesn’t include an exposure compensation wheel/dial like virtually all other instant cameras ever. It’s absolutely necessary to fine-tune exposure specially with the modern Polaroid film which is a bit unstable regarding its actual ISO rating.
Oh well, we might get something better next time.
Thanks , that’s what I was hoping to hear
Big ask but I'm curious if you'll eventually review the I-2. it's an interesting direction from Polaroid that seems at odds with what they're able to produce film-wise and the marketing campaign around it. In a perfect world, they would of announced the camera around the discontinuation of Spectra as a function-alternative that uses Square film.
Been reading your website since 2016, love the video format
Working on a review right now actually, stay tuned!
Up to now I used 6 or 7 double packs. At first I tried some indoor flash pictures like selfies, close up and other. Have to admit I was disappointed with the results of most of the indoor pictures. However this summer I took the Go with me on all day trips when it was sunny and not too hot weather and I found the results good to very good outdoor. Most with flash off, portraits, architectures, landscape. I only had 3 bad pictures and it’s due to the behaviour of the shutter button, there’s no feeling in it. Maybe your unit is faulty? Edit: I would have liked to see an exposure compensation button. General thought: instead of the "weird wide format" we got " a small/narrow" format in place...
Thank you so much for your honest review!
i got this because the film is half the price but it underexposes EVERYTHING!,! i might have to sell it and get a polaroid now.
You just save me I wanted to get this camera because of the design looks so good, and I wanted to get into taking pictures and I was happy Polaroid was back as a company but you just save me some money 💰
I seen one of these at goodwill for 5bucks, Would you recommend me get it if its still there next time I swing over?
This is kind of the whole point of having an exposure comp wheel/dial……
You should not at all have to entirely rely on the camera to expose it properly. It is a MUST on Polaroid cameras, no doubt.
I love the looks of the Go camera, but I've been noticing that the rollers do not roll out the film completely. Parts of the sides are still brown, and also I've been getting streaks from the rollers as well!!! This is brand new!
and what do you think about Polaroid Now? is it worth it?
I do agree with you the Polaroid go it's Charming the pictures are similar Instax Mini,
But I will say the camera I would like to get from Polaroid is the Polaroid now plus is Bluetooth compatible any get that classic Polaroid picture,
Will I buy the Polaroid go no it is competing with Fujifilm .
It's too bad. The Polaroid Go would be a fun camera to carry around and have fun with, but not if the exposure is so finnicky. I own an Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo, and it takes really good photos, has much more functionality and it's be a ton of fun. Sure, the Instax Mini Evo is twice the price of the Polaroid Go, and not as small, but I still think it's a better way to go.
This has been my experience with the itype film as well. All the colours are muted, the film cannot get enough light. And the colours never pop. On top of that I’ve had “tears” in the picture where the chemicals didn’t spread evenly. I’ve cleaned the rollers as they say to avoid this issue but frankly I think that’s just an excuse for a product that doesn’t work right. I appreciate the difficulty of what they have to do, but I think they’ve given up on improving the film and concentrating on selling a new camera every six months. If they sell a camera and a few packs of film that’s their profit. I don’t think people will keep buying this film.
Polaroid Stop ✋
Great review! You just saved me the money and grief! Totally agree about Polaroid's direction. Thanks a lot :)
Sadly, totally agree. Really bad experience. And I love Polaroid.
I’m returning mine, wasted lot of money
I haven’t had such bad results. Seems like you have some damaged film or something. 🤷🏻♂️
Exactly, probably x ray Exposed film i have been this problem whit lomo square whit instax film fogged and totally black or totally white
Polaroid taking the wrong way. They trying to make new cameras, without competetive film. I can't understand why they aren't pushing the development of the film. After a stable, fast developing film, they can start to produce new formats. But with a cheap, bad calibrated cameras, and with a slow developing film, it's so-so fustrating. In the past 4 years, the developing speed of the film didn't changed. It is slow, and if you have limited time, you can take 3 pictures with different settings, or you just take 1 picture and you hope it will turn out great. And they should buy the camera technologies from the original Polarodi corporation. In the SLR-680, SLR-690 the lightmeter is fantastic! It very-very rarely calculates badly. But theese new cheap chinese cameras...
Read your manual and stop downing polaroid.
