Platted it just now (beat the game on release but left it after that) Came back to it and I love the series. I adore what it is and all the questions it posits. God I need a sequel to mankind divided
I beat this game today, and I was near to shit my pants. This ending, Bob Page, the references, with the theme of the original Deus Ex -- Jesus Christ. This is one of the best video game franchises ever made. It's too fucking epic and incredible.
Richie Richie Yes. Bob Page is really the most disgusting person I have ever seen in a videogame. But then I remember that there is dozens of Bob Pages in real world.
I wouldn't say that. From a fresh, modern perspective, it's really cheesy and too 'heroic', and not really all that fitting for a dark cyberpunk world like Deus Ex.
A lot of it comes from sheer nostalgia indeed, but on the other hand, I can't remember the last time I heard something as righteously cheesy as this Edit: Now rectified, Double Dragon Neon
The moment I heard the Deus Ex main title theme, I was full of pure nostalgia. Both Human Revolution and Deus Ex are amazing games and I respect them completely. And I highly recommend that you play Deus Ex!!
Instead of having the static Human Revolution logo, it would have been more fitting if they had an updated/modern version of the Deus Ex titles as that music plays, complete with the flying text and the rotating "DX" logo.
I hadn't played the original Deus Ex before Human Revolution. After hearing this awesome music, the first thing I did was go to Steam and get it. Best choice ever
Congratulations to DXHR team at Eidos Montreal for delivering an epic prequel to an epic game. The bar was set so high by the original, but you still managed to reach it, and in some cases even go further. In today's gaming industry, this is a vanishingly rare case, and you should all be proud of yourselves. I'll be very much looking forward to seeing more from you in the future!
I was totally immersed when I watched this scene. However, when the DX1 theme starts, I can't help but start singing... "Put on a trenchcoat, and fight some conspiracies!" Thanks ZP. XD
Ok so I didn't see this one coming, I actually sat there watching the credits enjoying the awesome pictures of the dev teams and such and then this, holy smokes, my Television screen went up in flames and my speakers exploded the second the theme started playing. I love the way they ended this game, simply brilliant !!!!! Mad props to everybody involved in making this sequal a reality, I respect each and every one of you for this wonderful creation. Truely gaming has come a far way!
i like they didnt expect this game to be as successful as it was to deserve a sequel that they just directly tied it up to the original, but then mankind divided got announced giving HR a cannon ending so im loving it :D
Well, a lot of people are too young to have played the original, and, going back, some of the control systems are very annoying (ex: needing to manually put away your weapon before lifting things, switching on super-strength instead of it auto-enabling/disabling when in/not in use, Right-Click being the default use key, etc). DX1 with fancy graphics, improved AI, better controls, and physics would actually be pretty epic. (And maybe they could make the nonlethal weapons worth a crap this time)
Can't agree with you on that, yes it somehow outdated but game itself much better than HR almost in any way, bigger and better locations, interesting dialogs, it's still great to experience, hope that it will get remake or something in the future
My deduction of this cutscene: Page was talking to someone called "Morgan" who is definitely Morgan Everett from Deus Ex 1, this is obviously a time when Page was a member of the illuminati. They also mentioned "wreckage" this could mean that Adam Jensen activated the self destruct button in Panchea killing everyone inside including himself, he even mentioned something about finding something they can use for the Morpheus Initiative. They could have recovered Adam's DNA sample from his corpse. And obviously Page is talking to Megan Reed, and they mention a nanite chimera virus which could be the Gray Death from the original Deus Ex. The trophy/achievement we unlock is called "The D Project" including a picture of JC Denton. JC Denton was born during 2029, two years after the events of human revolution. The D Project is definitely the cloning of Paul Denton (JC's older brother). The next game could be featuring JC Denton again......
True, but if Adam did enable the self destruct sequence wouldn't that pretty much destroy the whole facility of Panchea including the hyron quantum computer? i mean the computer is like 1 km deep into the ocean, there is definitely alot of pressure in that kind of depth which would pretty much crumble anything. Besides its a possibility that JC Denton could have traces of Adam's DNA, there were no signs of neuropozyne in the original deus ex. what if the d project is actually the cloning of paul denton?
I think you are right except on one thing. JC Denton's life before unatco was just training, nothing interesting. I think, in the next game, we may be playing as Paul.
Man, the voice actor for Bob Page hasn't changed at all! I mean, at all! I was fairly surprised that they were able to get him for the Human Revolution!
Late Feb 2020. Covid scare had just begun, I had just finished Deus ex goty for the first time the previous month, and now was at the end of Human Revolution. Played through end all night, just as the dawn's twilight came up the credits rolled on my screen, I sat back relaxed pondering over how fascinating these games were that I had been missing over the years. Just then, this... this voice popped up and I was glued to screen again, attentive like a predator. And just as the name Bob appeared and the theme kicked in, a cold breeze blew in the room. I had goosebumps for the whole time og theme played. Unforgettable.
now THIS is how you do a prequel/sequel to an older game. Human Revolution tripped a few times throughout the game (boss FIIIIIIGHTS) but the game was solid, and certainly worthy of the name Deus Ex. I definitely hope that Eidos Montreal handles the next game, if there ever is one.
ZOMG HUGE REVEAL, as if you couldn't recognize him in the intro. Oh wait, I forgot that 90% of people playing this never played the original. But bonus points for using the original version of the theme and not the shitty "orchestral" one.
so many years and I didnt know this ... wtf. I always thought that it would be really cool if human revolution would have more connections to the first Deus Ex. Now I see this. Oh my god. I AM SO ready for the sequel.
I'll admit, I found myself getting used to it as well, I just like having a separate "holster" button. In terms of problematic defaults in Human Revolution, It's actually kind of funny. The commands like Holster and Grenade are assigned to H and G, respectively. It seems logical at first, but look at your keyboard. Yeah. I blew up a few people who asked me to put my gun away before I reassigned Holster to my mouse's "back" thumb button XD
@Wenonimus It was a pretty good game by itself, it just had a lot to live up to after the original DX. Invisible War was just dumbed down a lot but it had some nice things in it too, such as the way the story line changes depending on your decision to kill / save some characters (DX had it too but it was minor, saving Paul or Jock didn't change much)
10 years since i played this game, 20 since i played the first one. If you add them, it gives us 30 years, since i kissed my crush for the first time. *COINCIDENCE* ??
@Cerek120 finally somebody answered XD. I played the first one but i never payed attention to the date. My mind is officially blown XD i love this plot twist thank you man.
He's talking about the manufacture of the Gray Death nanovirus, a big subject in DX1. The achievement you unlock with this is called "The D Project" or "The Denton Project" referring to creating the first two nanoaugmented humans, one of them (JC) is the protagonist in DX1. Bob Page is the main antagonist in DX1.
@shuboy05 Yes you're right. But Page was the one who thought of it as using it as a weapon, not Reed. And it's pretty sure that Adam was used to create the Dentons (hence the D project) and because of that he was essentially Paul and JC's older brother. Further evidence to that might be that Adam and JC's voices are very alike.
@Zemadclover And the Morpheus AI, which is supposed to record people's personal histories and tell them about it, as an early prototype for the Echelon IV surveillance system.
non lethal weapons in DX 1 werent all useless, tranq darts on the crossbow, the police baton(until u got the dragon tooth was the best melee weapon dmg and inventory space wise), and the gas nades were all pretty sweet. only problem i had with the 1st game was despite being heavy skilled into lockpicking and hacking, there still wernt enough lockpicks n multitools imo :D(nor tranq darts). aug activation and manual weapon holstering just added character to the game :) better ai would be sweet tho
ok good. I thought my game glitched when all I saw was text and no images on the screen. good to know this end credits scene was meant to be this way haha. (just beat the game, it was epic!!)
Gotta wonder how many people who had never played the original Deus Ex before saw the stinger and thought it was a sequel hook to a new game? I suppose if you think about it, it's a retroactive sequel hook, and perhaps considered a hint for the player to get the original Deus Ex if they don't have it already. Still awesome to hear the original theme again, though. I need to finish my existing save of the original Deus Ex I was working on before starting HR....
@mse0813 There are plenty of people with mechanical augmentations in DX1, but they're not as abundant as HR due to the events of HR and also an economic depression. Also by that time the new nano-augmentations are seen as a replacement for mechanical ones because they grant users the abilities of mech-augs without the need for replacing their real limbs, surgery, and looking like a freak. Mechanical augs resent you in DX1, because they see you as their replacement.
Are you asking what the concept is, or what the defaults are? Rebindable controls means you can change what key/button does what (almost omnipresent in PC games, occasionally included in console games). As for the Defaults, Deus Ex has rightclick as "use," the square brackets as toggle laser and zoom, and Q and E as lean left/right.
Megan got Adam's DNA which he was unique in that he could fuse with the augmentations without problems which nobody else could. Megan got his DNA and J.C and Paul were formed. That's why the acheivment photo shows J.C and says the D project. D = Denton.
@KrkNwProductions possibly... or if you found the side quest in the game that revealed more about Jensen's past reveals that he is a gene therapy baby.
@Plexuz0 I can understand where you're coming from, it is quite an old game and probably isn't easy to pick up and play if you didn't play it back when it was originally released, A Deus Ex remake or something would be cool but they'd have to do it properly and not screw it up :P
Well, It's not really canon but the idea was for both to be used. And it would explain how Paul looks exactly like Jensen. And when You unlock the achievement the picture shows J.C when it says "The D Project"
@KasaruKisuke They didn't close it off well though. There's room for a sequel to the prequel. Besides there's a document in Deus Ex from an NSF commander named Adam Jensen, so they could make a game about MJ12 splintering from Illuminati and the NSF and UNATCO starting.
@ISetYourFaceOnFire There might be a sequel because we still don't have a reason for the global economic collapse that supposedly happened just before the events in DX1. Then again, seeing as the true ending was probably the one in which Adam self destructed Panchaea (because noone in DX1 mentions it) it may or may not be with Adam. Maybe some kind of thing with Paul Denton in the lead, he was JC's older brother anyways.
The way they handled this game certainly suggest that there'd be another one. It'd definitly be cool if they made a prequel to this one where they went further into Jensen's SWAT backstory, even though that is unlikely.
I really recommend you play the game, it's a good one, albeit a bit dated. In DX1, a powerful "gray death" plague is killing of humanity. Only a medicine called Ambrosia, provided by Versalife, is able to prevent infection for a short period of time. During the game you'll uncover what this Gray Death is and what Versalife has to do with the medicine. If you played DX:HR, you'll probably understand that is all conspiracies build onto one another :P
I played the first Deus Ex for the first time this year and right click being the use key threw me off for a bit, but after a while it just feels really natural.
@ISetYourFaceOnFire The only new fact is that Megan Reed worked with Page to create the virus, question remains is where did she dissappear to, she wasn't in DX1.
I agree, the graphics don't really bother me at all. (Though I did install a texture mod and a model mod, because, why not.) I just know some people can't look past them.
@KrkNwProductions Just read elsewhere, there's a sequel laying around already. And it's on the book. The event on the book is based after the events of DX:HR, at least that's one of the books' citation entails. I could be wrong.
@KrkNwProductions considering it looked like they replaced 80% of Jensen's body with augs, including his lungs and heart, chances are he ages much slower than a normal human, which means he could be in his 50's and still look close to what he does in Human Revolution.
I had a feeling for half the game that Megan Reed was a deceptive character. There are various e-mails in the last few missions, if you find the right computers to hack/intercept, that indicate so. Some of them allude to her involvement and how entrenched she is. I knew it!
start playing the first mission on Deus Ex 1.... "I figured you'd be sick of drills by now. Hopefully our training exercises will be more interesting than what they've had you doing at the Academy" -Jaime Reyes
What I think they meant, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that they used Adam's DNA with JC Denton's cloning process so they can create a soldier who can adapt to augmentation. Maybe Adam had nothing to do with Paul but he maybe had something to do with JC. Also, JC was 23 at the time of Deus Ex (2052) which mean he was born in 2029. So it kind of makes sense to me.
I hope they remake the original Deus Ex next. The gameplay of the original is a little dated by now, but its story is still a masterpiece. Graft HR's gameplay onto that story and it'll be the greatest game of all time.
It is hinted all over the game that Sarif is actually a Page's bitch. So when David assigned Megan to help forming Majestic 12, she of course obeyed. The canon ending is Sarif's version: the augs continue to multiply, corporations running wild, society blames terrorists in all the shit happening, supporting forming UNATCO.
Here's what the ending was implying, Adam's DNA was gonna be used for J.C and Paul Denton from the first game. That's why it's called "The D Project" Not to mention, Adam looks similar to Paul and J.C from Dues Ex.
@Wenonimus Everett's ending was the worst, imo. Not only does Everett have a "history" with the illuminati, which would mean he without doubt wants power back, there's also the little evidence in the game with DeBeers and how Everett treats him. Also the cutscene looks a lot like the beginning of the game, so it would all go back to being the way it was as JC would become corrupted under Everett's influence
I love how symbolic this whole post-credits scene is revealing bob page to then play the original theme to remind you this is a prequel to Deus Ex.
Platted it just now (beat the game on release but left it after that) Came back to it and I love the series. I adore what it is and all the questions it posits. God I need a sequel to mankind divided

I actually liked manually holstering my weapon, for the most part.
I just got tired of seeing "your hands are full" every time I tried to lift a box.
And that's why I always watch the credits to the very end in every single game I played.

Pretty much, yes
I think they did what they did with DX1 ending in IW: combined them all.
@Wenonimus I hear you. This and many other things, like the choose your ending machine, hampered the endgame for me.
Awesome how they connect Human Revolution with the first DX1 like that. Now I want to see a DX4 and see if Jenson is still around.

@Odilwerk hell yes....exploring how Page split from Everett, or the US civil war(UNATCO VS NSF), or maybe even Paul in the earlier years.
Megan got Adam's DNA which he was unique in that he could fuse with the augmentations without problems which nobody else could. Megan got his DNA and J.C and Paul were formed. That's why the acheivment photo shows J.C and says the D project. D = Denton.

No, The Conspiracy is the first one (PC version technically doesn't have that subtitle, but I like subtitles). Invisible War is the second one.
@KrkNwProductions
Just read elsewhere, there's a sequel laying around already.
@Bert2DX He wouldn't miss his brothers first day.
this is epic ...
I had a feeling for half the game that Megan Reed was a deceptive character. There are various e-mails in the last few missions, if you find the right computers to hack/intercept, that indicate so. Some of them allude to her involvement and how entrenched she is. I knew it!
@KillerKahuna
Obviously it's the prequel to the series, my bad, I was too excited to think. I can't wait for what's coming next.
Not having played the original Deus Ex , this entire cutscene went way over my head. I have no idea who these people are, aside from Megan of course.
When the original theme plays, they should've made the Deus Ex logo blue...
I guess you weren't able to contain it.
start playing the first mission on Deus Ex 1....
"I figured you'd be sick of drills by now. Hopefully our training exercises will be more interesting than what they've had you doing at the Academy"
-Jaime Reyes
Well, I think they could probably pull it off, they certainly seem to have the talent. I'd trust them.
deus ex menu theme....NOSTALGIA BOMB!!
@watchearthlings "I think Manderley wants to see how you handle the situation."
OMG...BEST PLOT TWIST EVER...Now if you excuse me I gotta go find my jaw
There are mods to help offset that (HDTP, NewVision, etc), but yeah, I hope they remake the original like this too :)
Good ole Babblin' Bobby! :D
I just checked because I have the sound track of DE:HR, but this song is not on there! why not, I want it!
Here's what the ending was implying, Adam's DNA was gonna be used for J.C and Paul Denton from the first game. That's why it's called "The D Project" Not to mention, Adam looks similar to Paul and J.C from Dues Ex.
Their secret ending is augmented.
