This is a perfect example of a composer nailing the music score for a project. This introduction is perfect for the mood of this game, Cyperpunk Secret agent ass kickery with the ever present air of mystery. You can almost see a mid 90's TV series of Deus ex opening using a shorter version of this theme in it's opening credits sequence.
+PonzooonTheGreat Deus Ex is a great inspiration in that regard! It's a game all about choices and consequences, along with a great plot that slowly unravels to the player as they progress.
+helmetluigi For the record it is one of the few games not made with PROFIT in mind. The producers went to Warren Specter and told him "go wild with your imagination, money is no problem". And oh boy, did he !
It's hard to say how controversial augs are in DX, really. If I remember correctly, you see exactly two augmented civilians in the entire game - one is the ex-UNATCO bartender (so, a vet), and another is Walton Simons, who is not really a civilian. So augs seem to be used mostly in a military or police context, and even then, sparingly - most UNATCO force isn't augmented, it's just the special agents. And even then, from emails, you find out that Gunther is not particularly happy about the kind of treatment that he gets on account of his mechanical augs; and Dr Reyes refers to augmentation as "a sacrifice". And here's part of an email that JC receives: "In an effort to secure freedom and liberty for those under their protection, many UNATCO agents have chosen to sacrifice *social acceptance* for mission performance by surgically replacing limbs and organs with mechanically or electronically enhanced equivalents." The aforementioned bartender, by the way, is also testy if you ask her about her augs, and quickly changes the topic. Then there's the conversation between NSF troops that you overhear on the very first map, where they talk about Gunther: "They'd've replaced his whole body if it would've improved performance. If that's how you judge a man - by performance - then eventually it's not about people but upgrades, versions, functionality... Soon as we buy into the cult of the machine we're just like them." So it would seem that the only reason why augs are less blatantly controversial in DX, is because a random person on the street doesn't really see many. In fact, most of them probably see none. Public figures that use them in a prominent way, like Page, aren't exactly liked - "Now all I need’s a rifle, and then it’s just me and Satan… Yes, Satan… One last look into the devil’s red eyes". And for those who are strongly ideologically motivated, like NSF, there's clearly a similarly strong negative reaction to augs.
I love that they added this song throughout DX: HR. Every time I hear it there feels like every time you'd discover one of those secret rooms in Portal, only this time it's not a reminder of what was, but what is to come.
old games are usually cheap, because, you know, they're "out of fashion" ... I love that :3 finding (g)old games are so cool and there are many that I haven't played as I'm a young gamer so... Deus Ex is on my list too :3 but after I finish MGS HD Collection :D

This isn't just 'included' in the PS2 version, it's actually the main theme. I bought the PS2 version at the time, over the PC. However, I'm now playing the latter as there are some differences. Far more bugs too, but I love how the whole level is open, the PS2 had levels sectioned off and loading screens. Plus the inventory system is much more detailed than the heads-up display of the console.
It definitely seemed that way during the Bush Administration, but ever since the Syrian Civil War and the subsequent refugee crisis, the world is turning strongly against globalization, and shifting more towards right wing nationalism. Just look at the difference between the popular support NAFTA had when it passed compared to the TPP. And of course the sorry state the EU is in after the Brexit vote.
Deus Ex. One of those very rare games which pushed boundaries for its time, Hardware, gameplay and story wise. 11 Years and it still one of, if not THE best game ever made.
slayerming1 ps" level designs were different as well, because it could only use so much RAM, so it was cut into chunks and things were moved around. Both games were fantastic, though the PC generally had smaller (but more intricate) levels.
slayerming1 Not really, since they were cut up into many different parts. Each part was significantly smaller, true, but if added all together, they would be a bit larger than the PC version. The other useful bit was that each time you change "zone", bit where it loads, which was everywhere, and then die, it loads back to the start of the "zone".
Why is this so much better than nearly every orchestral track I've listened to? I have my theories, with how it's not a homogeneous blast of noise but I failed the paperwork part of band class.
When this played at the end of the Secret Ending of Human Revolution, chills went down my spine. Deus Ex is one of THE greatest games of all time. Period. A game like this only appears once in a decade, at most. It just takes an insane amount of creativity, genius and hard work to make such a game. And most companies today think: why should I do that if I can gain much more money by publishing inferior, simpler games which sell better?
What I like about this game is that it doesn't force its morality on you. Sure, there are parts where you can get told off for doing certain things, like blowing up a hostage or five, but it won't force you to start over or give you 'bad' karma points. And that, for me, is enough to make me reset after accidentally doing just that at the Battery Park station. And keep playing to find a way to defuse it all the same. My gaming is augmented. *salute*
When I hear that fucking great music, it makes me feel so good It reminds me the time i played to this game, the best game ever made, it is, and it will always be, the best video game. So much time spend on it, and i've never thought that i was losing my time. I simply love it
@AIMaaronawesome I actually got it from a buddy whose computer glitched out whilst running it for some reason. He when giving me the game told me "I hear it's pretty bad anyway", so it got left in my cupboard for about a month. Then, having nothing to play, I got it out, installed it... And it became the game I wanted for game of the year (Which it ended up winning. Yay !)
They DID make remakes of the other songs. If you have the Game of the Year edition in a box copy, it came with a soundtrack disc where they had remixed all of the music tracks in the game. Most of the tracks were just quiet, so its mostly the main theme and the Hong Kong themes that you notice.
I loved this game to bits. The characters and the backstory are great, as well as the pieces of literature you during gameplay. Made me read "Last and first Men", which was an ... experience, although a disturbing one. By the way: "LAPUTAN MACHINE"! Sticks and stone ... :)
@TKDmidgit Yes it's worth it! You can run the vanilla (pure, unmodified) version of the game on any computer or laptop which came out the last 9-10 years.

I loved the ending when it goes down.
I always wondered if the musicians who worked on this game knew what they had on their hands when thay gave it such a grandiose theme.
This sounds beautiful. I'm getting myself an orchestra and force them to play this 24/7.
@TKDmidgit Yes it's worth it! You can run the vanilla (pure, unmodified) version of the game on any computer or laptop which came out the last 9-10 years.
This game and the Mass Effect Trilogy are some of the best Video Games experinces you can have in my opinion.
I think i listen to this awesome track more than play the actual flawless diamond that is Deus Ex. Why can't all games be this god damn good!?!
I love this theme so damn much.
