In March 2024, former President of the United Nations Security Council, Mr. Kishore Mahbubani, and the Director of the Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations, Mr. Orville Schell, engaged in a debate on U.S.-China relations in New York City, USA. @@tonybrown9598 On the contrary, you can teach old dog new tricks but it depend on whether the old dog want to learn or not. Mahbubani is 75 years old and he always keep an open mind. Orville, on the other hand, refused to adapt himself to present circumstances and play that old game which isn't in sync with modern days. As the whole world knows, China is no longer communist but the stubborn old dog insist China is still communist! Why? Simple, Orville have no argument to counter and so stuck to old notions of China being a communist state. One can see Orville's belligerent and bellicose ways!

The term "Wolf Warrior" is an unfortunate one chosen by a Chinese spokesman. What it really meant is "being assertive, but not necessarily warmonger like". I will tell you who fit that "war monger" tag...it is the US. Everyone knows that except not daring to openly articulate it. It is like Joe Biden has past his cognition "used-by date", but no one is talking about it until now, it took a debate to expose his ineptness.
Take human evolution as an example. The accepted theory is that Homo Sapiens emerged from the African continent, and gradually emigrated across the world. But in reality, it didn't happen all at once. Some went earlier, and some followed later. That is why the pattern of civilization in not uniform all across the world. While the various groups settled in, they began to evolve in the way best suited to their needs.
China evolves into the civilization which suit the Chinese culture and mind set. But China didn't suddenly become what it is today, it took decades and centuries. One of the most noteworthy period was the industrialization of textiles when silk industry dominated the world. That is not a flash in the pant either because Chinese are, traditionally, prided themselves on hard work and aptitudes. Being pragmatic also helps.
Naturally the west sees the rise of China as a threat to its dominance. So instead of working out how to out perform, or in Janet Yellen's words..."overcapacity", the US and the west deploy the "Tonya Harding" tactic which took the leg out of her opponent "Kerri Kerrigan" in order to win the competition. While the US cannot use its trialed and tested military tactic to subdue because China is no longer the easy-beat it once was, the US deploys the schoolyard tactic by sledging China.
With a president like Joe Biden, I doubt that China has too much to worry about. As for Trump, he is a one trick pony. He only knows MAGA by slapping on tariffs. I think China has both Biden and Trump measured.

Western domination over 200 years is due to aggressive nature once the western develop modern weapons and modern economies and manufacturing process etc. Now China & India have a rude and brutal awakening and same with Africa which bear a brutal slavery period. Now all have the same playing field. Gun vs sword conflict is over. Horse vs armour carrier is over. Trading war is a new battlefield. Working 4 or 5 days week with 38hr per week sure to lose out to Asian hardworking attitude & strong education with strong family and high saving habits. And how the 12% view China is not how the 88% view China. He obviously wants to make the point that the 12% want the 88% (minus China) to be wary of China's rise and fear it as well, and to help the 12% contain it .

Japan is not a carbon copy of the West with their strong monocultural bias but it is practically an occupied vassal. What is unspoken is the continued strong desire to maintain hegemony and control over the minds and thoughts of the global south beyond just manpower, resources and wealth. Hubristic neo-colonialism and neo-imperialism never left these 'enlightened minds'.

Separation of church and state, indepenence of the judiciary, the scientific method, modern technology, fashion and economics and the organisation of international relations. To pretend otherwise is laugable. Of course as the emerging economies grow richer and continue to develop they will want their say, and contest all things to their own advantage, this is the way things have always been.
