You made my day. All season long I watched for 57 on the bear cams and was a little concerned when I didn't see her. You caught her at 16:13. Thank you!
@@BoundForNowhere 57 has a big personality and loves to play. I think she'll make a really great mom some day. Thanks so much for this wonderful video.
I have said it before and ill say it again you guys are absolutely awesome film Makers and this deserves a place on something like Nat Geo. We have fully fallen in love with those stunning bears, Thank you so very much MAK and Owen for taking us along for the journey 🧡🧡🧡
I have to give you guys a major props on this one. I showed this episode to my mom after I saw her watching the latest overdramatized grizzly series on Kodiak bears in Alaska via National Geographic. While their footage is amazing, it simply is not genuine. They make up a BS plot for the bears that is absolutely comical. I turned that off and showed my mom this video and she was blown away just as I was the first time I saw it. This is true, this is pure, this is special. Good for you guys.
Wow, that is an incredible compliment thank you! Owen and I were watching Life on Earth (David Attenborough) and he is a big proponent for the use of narrative in documentary film making that is obviously in the wildlife space. We were discussing if we felt that narrative used in the way is successful or not, so I find it interesting that you think that it isn't genuine. I think it's a tool used to pull people into the setting and relate it back to us as humans. I tend to shy away from it as I feel it can be distracting from the interesting facts about these animals. In the end, we're just honored that you would turn to us for something of quality. It means a lot to us!
The Chonks!! And the little babes. You guys did an amazing job at capturing the magic of Brooks Falls. So glad you were able to show us the valley of 10,000 smokes from the air.
This is my favorite episode by you guys yet. Stunning visuals interlaced with your insight brings a unique perspective to this magical place. Coupled with your editing skills, this is a masterpiece. "That will not be the last time we lay eyes on the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, mark my words" I was told by a good friend before my first trip to Alaska I'd "gotta go back". Oh was he so right! I've been back many times, and I'm beginning to finally realize it's Alaska that never leaves you. Simply beautiful episode, well done!
Its our favorite thus far too! Thank you so much for the kind words. This place really struck a cord with us. We will be back, as you well know, it's almost required of us now!
My husband and I are empty nesters. We have had the amazing fortune of living and working in a national park most of our adult lives and have raised our daughter there as well.We have now moved about 2 hours away to another amazing city. He is retired while I am now working for a major organization. Every time I watch your videos I question what I am doing.... I love that you have followed your dream through and am envious of it. We have been the envy of others as well because we lived out our dream most of our lives. Thank you for posting such beautiful videos and being honest about the journey.
😃Amazing!! I was there roughly the same time frame as you guys!! July '21. Truly an incredible place of wild beauty! Your photos & videos are better than mine, but i got some I'll treasure for the rest of my life! Thanks for sharing your journey!! Well done!
Unreal. If that wasn’t a master class in nature travel vlog then I don’t know what is. You could give David Attenborough a run for his money with this episode. Just spectacular.
Mak, you, Owen and your channel are the new National Geographic. You got my feels going during your plane ride. The rest of your video was the icing on the cake. Thank you for you great content. 😻🤗
Oh my goodness! This is my dream! I have been watching the bear cams for 5 years now and must say you captured the essence of awe, beauty and wonder of Katmai I have only imagined it to be. The close ups of the littles and bigs, mamas and yearlings is always special on the bear cams but your story telling, coupled with the overwhelment of the moment made this extra special. Oh, The Land of 10, 000 Smokes!!!! Oh my goodness! The geology! Who knew….I have only seen images of a bus or truck that heads out that way…who knew how breathtaking it is! I cannot wait to go….It is on my bucket list…My sistah and I will one day stand on those bridges and experience the awe in person. Thank you for the creative gift of you two and sharing the gifts of amazing places. Be well, ll
I can't wait to go back either. There is still so much I want to do and see. I would like to go back later in the season to see them towards the end of the salmon run and get footage of how the bears look. I also know the way they eat later in the season is totally different and I'd love to see that. HA moral of the story is that you have to go, but just know once will not be enough ;)
Amazing Mak. I cant say anything that hasn't already been said, but I love your choice of music. Its so fitting at all times. You guys are so very talented.
I just found your videos a few nights ago and have been bingeing them for days. They are cinematic and tell a beautiful story. Katmai has been on my bucket list for years and I cannot wait to visit.
Recently found your blog while checking for Katmai National park and was amazed by the quality of your video, I’m now trying to watch all your videos on you tube. Keep it up 👍
That was one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen of the bears at Brooks! It served to further fuel my lifelong desire to one day get up there. Thanks!!
I’ve watched this episode twice now, and even though I knew it was coming, I again cried with you on the plane, MAK. You need to include a trigger warning on episodes where you tear up just due to the sheer beauty of a place. 🥲 Also, the airport parking shuttle bus read “out of service”, making me think you had to convince the driver to let you get on, because you needed the shot for the vlog. 😄 Thank you, shuttle bus driver.
HA. Sorry, I have a knack for injecting my emotions that no one asked for at random ;) And there was so no convincing the driver to stop there. We were worried while we were sitting there that no one would come because that sign was there. But turns out you just have to call the bus driver to tell them you are there rather than them just stopping by on a schedule which was why the sign was there
Thank you, thank you. I have never seen a more beautiful video of bears ever. Your photography is excellent and I look forward to sharing this with my grandkids. Please keep your videos coming as it was very enjoyable. I also want to tell you that your choice of music is great as it seemed to enhance your presentation as well.
Fantastic!! I was sent the link from a friend of mine in Wisconsin. Really enjoyed it. Would love to see the bears one day. I too am an adventurer here in South Africa. We spend as much time as possible out in the bush with our diverse wild life and beautiful countryside. I take a ton of videos but have never gotten to share it with the world. I would like to but am not very tech savvy internet wise. I am busy completing our very own RV and hope to hit the road soon now that we have retired from the rat race. Keep up the great work. i will be following you from now.
South Africa is high on our list! We have a dear friend from SA and we’d love to go back with him some time to see the wildlife we’ve grown up watching on the discovery channel 🤩
This was the most amazing video I've seen at this bear sight. Thank you soon much for sharing! I've been watching the explore Chanel this summer and love it. I could even identify some of the bears you saw. Your talent of photography was spectacular.
I did my first visit (not my last) to Katmai last summer too. When you said it is life changing... I can only agree. So many times I was stopped in my tracks in simple awe. What an amazing place. Love your footage of the bears and area. I will refer back to your video when ever I am longing for that peaceful feeling, found in Katmai. Thanks. You two are doing a great job of sharing your adventures.
Did you really?! When were you there? I've said it a few times, but I think you too will believe it to be true. It's a place my brain goes to in quiet moments. I find that when there isn't anything else to think about, this is where I come. It bores into our soul in that way.
What a beauty of a film! I think you just put another place on the bucket list! Bears scare the shit out of me but some of these scenes would be impossible to not want to be a part of!
This video was so amazing the photography was the best must have a awesome camera so jealous you guys could have taken me in your suitcase most enjoyed video of brooks falls thank you 🙏 both love ❤️ from Canada 🇨🇦
I totally got it when you tested up! I have lived in Alaska the past 41 years, traveled all over this state by floatplane and seen incredible things, and I still tear up at times! Nothing like Alaska. As I tell visitors, yeah we are part of the USA, yet Alaska is literally it’s own country, it’s so unique! Glad you both got a piece of it!😉And just think, you barely scratched the surface up here!🤣😆👍
Great video. I’ve got a 5 day trip to Katmai in July this year. I booked my trip in April of last year and was lucky to find reservations. I’m counting the days.
Absolutely amazing! The best Katmai visit I’ve seen! Great footage and so heartfelt! Thank you for taking us along on such an amazing adventure. Sharing with my friends and extended family now. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Oh gosh thank you. We love these bears. The more people know, the more they care, the more that care, the more people who will see to it that they are around forever!
Baby Bear doo doo doo doo doo doo, Baby Bear…..had to be done. 🤣 Oh my, you’ve topped yourselves with this episode. I too grew up on Nat Geo photos of this place, the bears and salmon. I always rooted for the fish as a kid! I sincerely hope that your efforts are recognized and your able to parlay this body of work into the next level or three of film making as desired.
Thank You so much for making this incredible video! We are going to Brooks Falls for the 5th time this September. I have enjoyed sharing this with my whole family so they can see what an incredible journey and place this is.
You were there at an absolutely epic time! The most bears we’ve seen in the falls in July was 30. Your graphics, cinematography, photography, and story telling were just great. I appreciated all the little details of the travel and campground that you put in. I shared tears of joy with you.
Absolutely loved the video! I admire your adventurous spirits and energetic, let’s get out there off the beaten path attitudes! You both have truly found that “less is more”! Keep following your dreams - everything here is temporary and at the end of this earthly journey the only things that go with us are memories made (not things). Most people spend a lifetime to find true happiness and contentment - you’ve already arrived at such a young age! Happiness is found immersed in God’s creations, spending quality time with family and friends, and realizing that our short journey here is by no means the end or final destination! Unbelievable. I watched this episode twice already and likely will go back for a third. To be able to capture the bears facial expressions AND all the different ways of catching salmon was just so amazing. The amount of work you must have put into this is making it lifechanging for all of us to watch. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.
The absolute best video seen yet! The beauty, narration and photography was magnificent and brought a special tear. Will visit July ‘22 for a day trip. Hope it’s as great as your adventure! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! It is so fun to pile all of our experiences into a video like this. It's hard to capture bad images of a place that is so inherently beautiful!
Thank you OH so very much for giving me the opportunity to see through your eyes the BEAUTY of Katmai..... it was one place I so wanted to see, but we didn't on our visit to Alaska. I love the bears... truly! They are a wonder.
