Sure wish I had studied this video more closely before I damaged small areas of my very first beaver pelt. It also helps me to know when to flip the fleshing knife over and how to apply proper pressure. This video is great but I need a lot more practice and experience to get the amazing results demonstrated here! Thanks for the detailed instructions. I will keep working at it.

That is really a nice Prime Beaver hide. That's a nice white color 2 the hide. That knife has to be really sharp cuz it comes through that like butter. I am flushed my fair share of beaver.
Thanks again about a month later! I just got my first Beaver and it was 43 inches long and 45 pounds, so I didn't want to mess it up. I got both ears, eye lids and the nose perfect this time, but in the washer the hide was to heavy to spin dry so it is hanging up to dry fur grain down and I will flesh it in the morning. Don't have a hoop to stretch it on and nothing to stencil some plywood with, but I do have a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood so I will do the best that I can. I won't want to sell this one anyway, so it shouldn't matter as long as long as I tan it right to make a nice hat with. I like that you explain everything step by step, so you're easy to follow.

I currently use a whole pvc pipe that is only 6" wide (found it, worked great so far), that is hinged onto a wood base so I can fold it up for storage and transport. Would you mind sharing about your beam? If you already have it in a video I apologize for having not seen it, I haven't gone through all your videos yet.

That is a skinning knife. It's not a wood draw knife, though I've seen videos of people that make those work. Generally though, the wood draw knife is for pulling towards you and the skinning knife is for pushing away from you like he's doing.

does refridgerating the pelt before fleshing help? i know skinning a deer after its been hanging a day or two, it just pulls right off..?

Question - Using a clamp leaves compression spots on the leather side. Does that affect grading?
No. They will go away as the pelt dries

+Chase Credeur use the sharp side of the knife. that and it does take alot of practice
I found puttin hide over my knee and using a beaver knife goes faster and is way easier
