I started a slope garden project in September and it will take months to complete; Hopalong Hollowscaping on a budget. We're using the Autumn blooms to create bouquets in our pumpkins, and we"re using the pumpkin innards to make "Finley's Pumpkin Soup" and "Pumpkin Patch Tea Bread".

Finley's Pumpkin Soup
3 to 4 Cups of Mashed Pumpkin
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 to 1/2 Cup Brown sugar
1/4 tsp each of Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cloves
1 Tbsp. Flour
4 cups Chicken Broth
1/2 cup Cream
salt and pepper to taste
Pumpkin Patch Tea Bread
2 eggs
1/2 cup oil
1/3 cup water
1 cup Mashed Pumpkin ( canned or fresh)
1 3/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp each Nutmeg and Cinnamon
1 tsp Baking Soda and 1 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup walnuts
1/3 cup raisins

just what i needed this morning - your soft quiet gentle voice - i get excited when i see your garden and gives me hope for mine - but - i have lost or tucked away all my seeds that i was going to scatter this spring - i just cant find them so disappointed with myself - so off to the nearest town 100km away - and i am going to get some more seeds - i cant bend and my husband cant mow - so between us both we seem to get some sort of garden each year - my hubbies health is deteriorating quite rapidly and no doctor can seem to find out whats going on so we try between us to get stuff done - takes a lot longer but each time i see a bloom i am happy
I'm glad you are still out there trying to get things together, it's not easy when your knees hurt and your back aches.

The soil has been enriched with lots of compost.
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow It’s lovely Jeri, we use a lot of compost chicken manure, three years old I call it black gold at that time my mother 84 years old still flowering always wants the 3 year pile lol. I’m thinking about doing some raised beds next year. Your place is gorgeous! love watching your videos when I have time our farm keeps us busy we have ducks,geese, pigs, chickens & horses. I always look forward to winter I hit your playlist when I’m busy in the house cleaning,cooking,or baking is my favorite thing to do, your voice is soothing I tell my husband John, I need some Jeri therapy ha ha calms me down my husband enjoys them as well love the crafty way you do things🐰👒 keep up the good work thank you! I Love Pumpkin soup as well as butternut squash soup. It’s a perfect starter for just about any meal of that time of year and for those of us that live in the heat , it’s also good served cold with sandwiches and iced tea.

I have only found your channel a little while ago. Your garden style, and all you share have inspired me so much. I live in zone 10B, Miami, but originally from a colder climate. I really miss a lot of the flowers that do not grow well in our climate. I truly want a cottage garden still. So i search and search for any wild, cottage flowers that might grow here. Thank you Inspired to pieces!

Today, the 1st of November, is a church holiday in Germany. It is a catholic church holiday and it is called Allerheiligen. It means "all saints". We remember the folks who have passed away and go to the graveyards to have the graves blessed by a priest. Yesterday my youngest son and I carved a pumpkin for Halloween. We made it a "Cat-O-Lantern", lol. We adore cats so much. I love your new little rascal kitten with the bell. He is the cutest. :-)

Oh, I wanted to ask you, if you know the Podcast "Bealtaine Cottage" by Colette O`Neill? I think you will like it. Colette has bought a barren land with a cottage on it about a decade ago and transformed it into a permaculture paradise, in Ireland. She is a special lady, very unique in her ways. Lovely, rural, with a dog called Jack and lot`s of wild creatures roaming about the acres, which is like a fairyland, inchanted and mystical. Sometimes she shoes what she cooks as well and sometimes she knits or upcycles clothes she got from the thrift shops. She is 66 years old now.

Hi Jeri, love the using broken concrete for stairs idea. So will you cut back the mums in the spring or do you just leave them as is? Probably different for my area as I live in Canada and we get snow and periods of below zero temperatures. Love the look of the giant mum plants in the open bottom containers. You say your garden isn’t perfect but that’s what I appreciate about it. Makes me think I can garden too 😊
I just cut the mums all the way down to the ground and cover it in mulch, in spring, they start up again.

I discovered some bittersweet growing and was so excited had no idea where it came from. I also found 6 weeks ago a jack n the pulpit that went to seed and was excited about that too. Jeri those mums are what I was talking about the last time I made a comment but you said that you didn’t know them.
They are beautiful you are such an inspiration to me.I’m learning to move dirt with a shovel and wheel barrel and work with what I have. I could use some more lessons on how to make stone pathways.
On another note I pulled back for a couple of weeks this summer because I had a poisoned snake go through my garden.
We live on an acre and half located on a slope. Please forgive for being so scattered in my comment. I watch your videos so much that I feel like you are my neighbor and I forget that you don’t know me 😊.
