With some french presses, the lid stops you from going down far enough into the milk to break up all the bubbles but you can just unscrew the little knob at the top and take the lid off for more range! Plus you can get some presses where the body is just plastic and glass with the shaft of the plunger being the only metal bit so you can put it right into the microwave to heat your milk and froth in one device!
oh, that's a smarter idea than what i did. the knob on the top of mine was made of wood, so i just.... shaved it down so wouldn't hit the lid so early.
That's what I do with mine. taking the lid off makes it so much easier. I buy a small plastic body french press for £5 ($7) in the UK, so I can put it straight into the microwave. Works brilliantly.
Watching Lance's latte art videos and his espresso art vid, he has the magic wand to draw beautiful art with whatever liquids and methods. I'm looking forward to seeing him doing orange juice art, coke art, and, ultimately, water art.
I've been doing this for a while and does work very well. It is great to transfer the milk to another device to break up the big bubbles. Thanks for a another great video.
I think it's worth mentioning that the nanofoamer works very similarly. Both use a fine screen to cut up the big bubbles. The nanofoamer uses the impeller to push the foam to the screen. With the French press you push/pull the screen into the foam.
Originally found your channel when I was looking for videos to help my girlfriend with latte art. Since we didn't have a espresso machine a cheap french press was the solution. So this is exactly the video I would have needed then, great job as always dude.
Didn't know that this could be so simple. I watched James Hoffman's video on using french press for steam milk and though that was helpful, your video really goes into details and with great demonstration too.
Always think that I can't do Latte art because I don't have good milk streamer . Now i know that because I don't have skill lol. Good job indeed. Thank for sharing.
Hello bro it's really works you are the only one who teach the proper how to use French press after failing so many times I found you video and I try same like yours and what it's work thanks you for the honest video....
I've needed this in my life for so long! I get pretty good results with my french press but I've wanted to try to make it better. Turns out I'm just putting in too much air 😅
Dude, this was empowering. Not able to buy a machine right now... so thank you! I let the ads play all the way without clicking skip. Hopefully that makes you a little more money, LOL!
I do this method using good milk powder. This way, i only need to heat the water with my kettle. Stop it kalfway, pour the water on to the french press, then put the kettle back to boil and meanwhile i'm making great milk. From the foaming action you make completely sure it's perfectly incorporated, and you could never tell it was milk powder in the first place. You basically foam milk while solving the greatest problem of milk powder, achieving great dilution
I now understand what I was doing wrong - I was smashing that milk like I was trying to bring it to climax instead of doing the one-two and then breaking the bubbles for that silky milky. Just sending the latte was great.
From someone that is just starting as a barista, you my man rock! I really enjoy all your videos since they're educational, funny and they have that special something-something - typical Lance touch haha. Keep it up dude!
Hahaha, i love this channel! That moment when you drank the entire cup made me smile big time! The sad part is, your French Press latte art is phenomenally better than my “regular” latte art with a steam wand ;-). BUT, i practice everyday… maybe one day I’ll master it!
My favorite shop in Seoul when I lived there - Chans Bros, if you’re out there, we miss you! - would use this technique on cold milk for his ice cappuccinos and it was revelatory for me like 10 years ago.
The most practical practice. Most of the vids on the same subject don't even mention the tip on not touching the milk surface much as a result of making foamy milk more suitable for capuccino not latte!
One tip is to get a french press with no metal parts, or which the glass can be removed. Then the whole french press can enter the microwave to warm the milk. Makes the workflow and thermal management way easier.
I always do a few big pumps and then several short, quick pumps to get that silky milky. Seriously, french press method is way better than those cheap frother that just spins and incorporates air; they make way too stiff of a foam. If you don't have an expensive steam wand, french press is the second best to make these micro foams.
This is so ace. I've used this method a lot at home in the past (especially the beginning of lock down haha) but now I know I could have done it better. I'll remember that for next time 👌
I love your energy and jokes! 😆 and this is such a clever way of making the latte art!!! (I failed my steam wand today and here I am watching your videos) 😁
Your latte art videos are the best on the internet. It would be extremely helpful if you told us what cups you were pouring into in each video and how big they are.
Awesome! time to head over to a friend and start impressing with this technique + gold blend instant coffee! Please attack the G-Iota/Solo/DF64 grinder next! I'd love to see your inputs/tips/tricks!🙏
3 years after this trend..i tried this trick for the first time and holy shut…got a pretty good milk good enuff to pour some art at 2nd try! The years of being patient with my cheap delonghi machine 😂 (Finally bought a replacement wand for it that does not fit well so now the wand doesnt even work!)
@Lance Hedrick hahaha a super great idea! We're voluntarily locking ourselves at home too just to minimise the risk. Too many cafes are not able to open because of staff shortages due to being close contacts, isolation, etc
I've been interested in making my own latte art for a while and your vids have been the MOST helpful videos I've come across to date! Thank you for this info! This might be sacrilegious but do you have any tips for making colorful latte art (with food dye)?
Well that’s the first time I’ve ever seen someone chug a latte before… and I loved it.
i dont believe you
him chugging the whole thing also got me 😂
More videos like this please.
😂
I chugged way to many before this video
Only about 20 seconds into the video and so far this guys Vibes are Immaculate.

But you don't really need to get down that much, in this video he doesn't neither
Is french press capacity important?
Watching Lance's latte art videos and his espresso art vid, he has the magic wand to draw beautiful art with whatever liquids and methods. I'm looking forward to seeing him doing orange juice art, coke art, and, ultimately, water art.
Oh I will. Just you wait!
hahaha water art would be amazing
I've been doing this for a while and does work very well. It is great to transfer the milk to another device to break up the big bubbles. Thanks for a another great video.
Exactly! I've found that going straight to the pitcher suffices but it wouldn't hurt to go to another. Just preheat everything!
This is gonna inspire millions around the world!
Won’t be surprised to see you make silky milk with a hand whisk! 🙌🙌
Now I've gotta try it
It is extremely rare for me to hit the notification bell, I did it for Lance ... and it is an automatic like from me ... thanks for the video!
This worked so well! I’ve been having trouble making latte art with my rancilio, but this worked on the first try. Thank you for teaching us!

Yep. I have a video on the nf. And did the class for nf lol
@@LanceHedrick Do you prefer either of the methods(nf or fp)?
There's a moment during that "sip" where you can tell from the look in your eyes that you have decided to end that drink's existence.
That is 100% accurate. Not premeditated at all. Hilarious you noticed it

Fantastic! So glad you enjoyed it. I hope it takes your drinks to the next level!
Thank you! With this video and your two “10 common mistakes” video I was finally able to draw a heart for the first time!!! Over the moon
Didn't know that this could be so simple. I watched James Hoffman's video on using french press for steam milk and though that was helpful, your video really goes into details and with great demonstration too.
that's where I just came from too! 😂 love this guy's energy and explanation!
I've been doing this for the past 6 months, works like a charm!
Heck yeah! It's so great.
Always think that I can't do Latte art because I don't have good milk streamer .
Now i know that because I don't have skill lol.
Good job indeed. Thank for sharing.
Haha! You can learn the skill. I believe in you!

I've needed this in my life for so long! I get pretty good results with my french press but I've wanted to try to make it better. Turns out I'm just putting in too much air 😅
Haha! Yeah. That's definitely the biggest issue I've seen. Either that or not churning long enough.
i think im doing the same, too much froth and not enough silkyness lol
Was actually pretty impressed. Didn’t think you could get that good a texture and definition on the latte art with this method. You got mad skills!
Dude, this was empowering. Not able to buy a machine right now... so thank you! I let the ads play all the way without clicking skip. Hopefully that makes you a little more money, LOL!
Oh mylanta! Thank you Lance. Snow day fun day on the eastern seaboard here!

Haha! Thank you! It it is often criticized so feels good to see the occasional compliment lol
This video just showed up while I'm waiting my water to make a french press coffee. Perfect timing!
Haha! That's awesome. Thank you for watching!

I’ve wanted this to work for a long time this is a blessing
Haha! Absolutely. I hope you get it first try!
I took an espresso shot every time he said silky milky. I think my heart just stopped.

Do you heat the milk to a certain temperature before putting it into the press? Thanks for your expertise
I try to heat it to around 140F
@@LanceHedrick How do you heat milk?
Total beginner here
Either microwave or stove. I'm lazy and Toss it in the microwave for a minute in a mug then transfer to press

Hey! I'm always pouring into cups between 5 and 6 ounces, so around 160-200ml.
I don't disclose the cups because most I use are discontinued
This is what i do for years, but you taught me a new technique 👍🏼 Me gusta!
Perfect! Glad you enjoyed the video
Silky milky, may your coffee never be silty.
No silt, no s*it. Only silk.

Thank you Lance!
And thank YOU pepe!
Awesome! Will be trying this! And the sweater is NOT tacky, btw..... ; )

I use a handgrinder for my Hand lever Flair. If I add a French press for frothing milk: that‘s a full workout. :-)

Haha! Thank you. Was feeling good
This might be late but what cup was that? Beautiful
I must now accept that Lance can macguyver a better silky milky than I can with my actual espresso machine steam wand.
Hahaha just years of obsession
That works better than the Nanofoamer
Thanks for this Silky Milky tip 🫶🏻
