    • @ClefairyRox
      @ClefairyRox 29 дней назад +2

      Probably because that footage doesn't show the tornado, or much of anything, for that matter, because it's so dark. While I agree that footage is haunting, it's memorable for the audio, not the visuals like with these videos. That said, I'd say the fact that you can't see anything is what makes that video so scary. You're forced to visualize what's happening based on the audio, and the things your mind makes up are always much scarier than seeing something in person.

      @@slipknottin That very video is what gave the Tornado an F5 rating. Surveyors initially rated the damage as high end F4 thinking that the tornado likely lingered or slowly moved over the area, which to be fair it did circle back on itself in that spot, but once the video surfaced it was undeniable. After Canada adopted the EF scale they said it was enough for the Tornado to have been rated an EF5. Truly a wild event!

    For the overpass thing, it's not about girders or not, it's about the venturi effect. Forcing wind into a confined spot only strengthens the wind and makes wind tunnels, the girders may have been passable for that f2, but 300 mph winds forced into an overpass is a whole different story.

    • @knurlgnar24
      @knurlgnar24 Месяц назад +3

      Boundary effects far outweigh the venturi effect. Wind speeds at the edge where there are girders offering resistance will result in much lower wind speeds. Like he said it's all about whether you have something solid between you and the wind. A bridge truss is excellent cover. Modern pre-stressed concrete designs don't offer you much.

All that wind screaming through is the inflow into the tornado, which I would say makes it even scarier because that video doesn't actually show the full force of the tornadic winds.

    Regarding honorable mentions, I'd have included that footage at Dallas in 1957 (The clip with the big pieces of debris) and a suburban shot of the 1987 Edmonton tornado. #8 has always been my favorite. It undergoes so many personality changes. Big wedge to giant whispy creature, then hops up into the clouds and comes down as an angry stove pipe and then ropes out. It’s the creepiest of all to me and I absolutely love it and I can’t believe it’s on your list. I thought nobody cared about this one 🙌

    I remember vividly watching the Andover tornado coverage as it happened, as well as this video with the KSN folks under the bridge. We frequently bounced between KAKE and KSN for live weather coverage. The McConnell AFB footage. That was a terrifying season, and what’s more, over the next few years, nearly all the same places had been hit again. The same poor boat shop in Goddard got hit twice in a few years. Doppler radar was a new thing and if you couldn’t tune in to tv. You listened to the trained spotter coverage on KFDI. The 90’s was a wild decade to grow up and witness it all. Not to mention all of the science and technology to come. Footage and knowledge of what these places looked like before and after the storms is something I’ll never forget. Stories and footage from Hesston, Haysville, Yoder, Haven, Hoisington, Andover, and so many more are the text books I learned from.

    The Clem video is the GOAT tornado video, in my opinion. He filmed the massive tornado hitting him. Without freaking out.
    You see it from a distance, then come right to him. The house across the street explodes and then hits his house, somehow he doesn't freak out.
    I've watched every tornado video I can think of. Nothing tops it, in my opinion.
    Love the video, though. Your content is awesome! It makes me want to make more tornado videos. 😆
