The Rig Veda is an ancient Indian collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns and one of the four sacred Hindu texts. Sri Aurobindo was an iconic 20th-century Indian philosopher, poet, nationalist, and yoga guru. Medical practitioner and writer Pariksith Singh’s latest work, Veda Made Simple, is an attempt to approach the vast complexity and scale of the Rig Veda through the perspectives of Sri Aurobindo. In conversation with Sanjoy K. Roy, Singh explores the world of this modern revolutionary and his attempts to understand the deep mysteries and revelations within one of the most sacred texts of the Hindu tradition.
Pariksith Singh is a poet, writer, entrepreneur, and healer. His life, work, and literature are uniquely personalized expressions of his spiritual journey and unfolding realization. One can sense a constant striving towards deeper and wider truth in all that he is and does. Singh’s creativity spans from literature, philosophy, and science to politics, business, and entrepreneurship. He writes widely on matters that he feels are relevant to contemporary human civilization, and is concerned above all about the articulation of the deeper and the wider.
Sanjoy K. Roy, an entrepreneur of the arts, is managing director of Teamwork Arts, which produces over 33 festivals in 42 cities and 17 countries, including the world’s largest literary gathering - the Jaipur Literature Festival and international editions of JLF. He is a founder-trustee of Salaam Baalak Trust, working to provide support services for street and working children in the inner city of Delhi where over 130,000 children have benefited from education, training, and residential services. Roy is the co-chair of the art and culture committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and former president of the Event and Entertainment Management Association. He lectures at and works in collaboration with leading universities across the world, and has been conferred the honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of York, UK, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the arts and society.
